I don't like this show because the male character is unfaithful. The whole cheater male character is one of the strangest tropes in anime. It's especially weird because it's most in series written by women.

>>729226102it's like watching a slideshow of still images, all the references are to 70s Japanese pop culture, and the writing is as shallow as a puddle because it was made in an era where anime was still seen as 'disposable kiddy media'. Anime doesn't truly become good until the OVA era, post 1984. some of the later movies and seasons fall into that era and the show starts to pick up in quality towards the end, but it's still an objective downgrade to Takahashi's later series.
>>729225252To be honest Lum is the best and worst part of Urusei Yatsura. I think initially Shinobu was intended to be the main love interest and Lum was not going to be the main focus (in the manga at least) but Lum was re-introduced and made a main focus. It did seem initially more like Lum was mainly there to get in the way of the relationship between Ataru and Shinobu, but eventually she becomes the main focus, and Ataru's perversion becomes more prevalent. It starts to make no sense, though, when Ataru seemingly rejects Lum's advances on him for no apparent reason despite his attraction to hot girls. You could argue it's because he "doesn't want to be tied down" or something of that nature but it's clear that he does like Lum throughout the series, it ends up feeling kind of disconnected. Anyway to make this about video games is anyone else aware of the Urusei Yatsura NES game in which the arcade version had it's license revoked and was renamed and skinned to Momoko120% but still has Lum's theme playing throughout the game?
>>729226493I played the NES game about a year ago. Honestly the UY license works against it, the premise of the game has nothing to do with the show other than her marrying Ataru in the final level. the arcade version is better from a creative standpoint.
