I like the Renaissance pastiche, and I like how playful the texture is, with all the instruments including the voice swapping freely between staccato and legato and alternating between one another with interlocking polyphony. There is still an undercurrent of tragedy and longing as well despite the whimsy of it.

Some fights can be a marathon and you need to have someone with enough health/defense on the team to tank a combo that might otherwise wipe. But they also need to have enough agility that they can take a turn and heal/res people as necessary before they themselves are killed. So there is some balancing and tactics that takes place, it's almost essential. Of course if you want to as you said you can just practice for hours upon hours dying over and over while you learn to perfectly parry every single combo in the game. It isn't how the devs intended or expected the average person to play but it's an option for people who have that amount of patience, just like grinding levels on dog shit mobs so that you can walk through the game is an option in other JRPGs.
