if fox engine is so good why do people use unreal engine instead?
>>
>>729227085
Unreal Engine is free to use, Fox engine isnt.
>>
>>729227158
Why doesn't Konami use it? They own it.
>>
fox engine is a nightmare to work it, not worth the time, better to release unoptimized slop, you whores will buy it anyway
>>
>>729227193
because it costs a lot of money to run and support it, and pay people to teach other people who may want to use it
>>
>>729227193
only hideo knows how to use it.
>>
>>729227085
Let's fucking GOOOOOOO
>>
maybe he was just paid to shit on unreal engine all along
>>
>>729227193
train people for years to use a proprietary game engine since everyone who knows it inside and out aren't at the company anymore or get dei hires and indians for unreal sloppa hmmm
unreal is the quick and easy choice and it shows most of the time
>>
>>729227085
so crazy XD
>>
>>729227085
>>729227193
Konami abandoned FOX Engine because they didn't bother maintaining to have people in-house to use it and teach others how to use it.
Now they just use Unreal Engine because of cheaper labor and widespread use.
>>
>>729227193
The simple answer is jeets can't use it. That's the real answer for EVERYTHING. Unreal engine is extremely easy to use. But in the long run it's VASTLY harder to actually make a game with it that doesn't use insane compute power for looking like a ps3 game. It's simple that because of UE. Nobody is extremely valuable anymore. Everyone that is a "game developer" now can use this dogshit engine. The "problem" with inhouse engines? You have to teach people. When you hire somebody, you have to teach them the entire engine. Also, if they die, get fired, quit themselves, etc you lose somebody that Is extremely valuable, they can argue for higher wages etc. Unreal engine slop? They can use infinite yeets. You might need a 4090 to run it at max meetings with 30 fps, but that is literally just offloading the cost onto the costumer.
>>
>>729227193
Because you can hire infinite pajeets with dubious diplomas and desperate college grads who were taught Unreal Engine in school, vs a proprietary game engine that could take them months to learn. It's just going to get worse as time goes on. Most companies are moving towards using Unreal Engine for the specific purpose of having a revolving door of employees they can work to the bone and kick out with many replacements waiting. And Unreal Engine being standardized in this way means that it's only a matter of time, more or less, where they can replace many of these workers with actually useful build-in AI and have an even larger pool of desperate potential employees fighting over a smaller pool of employment positions.

And games will not be better for it in any way, shape, or form.
>>
>>729227085
MGSbronies are so fucking retarded.
No the engine was not "insanely optimized", you just played the fucking 7th gen game on a 8th gen PC rig.
>>
>>729227085
It's used to make pachinko machines
>>
>>729227660
Must be why GTA IV runs so well these days. Oh wait...
>>
>>729227085
It’s cheaper to hire contractors that have some experience with a popular engine than train several full time employees to work with a 12 year old engine
>>
>>729227660
yes it was nigga, I played it on a craptop with a 940MX graphics card and it ran like a dream
>>
>>729227740
S-SHUT UP CHUD!
>>
Everything fox engine gloated about was done before by cryengine in 2007

Too bad the visual presentation and fidelity was kneecapped for consoles which makes this point redundant at the same time. Sometimes this crazy optimization can be a curse when weak console hardware comes into the picture. I'd have preferred the scenario where even our PCs were struggling to have ran it well at it's launch. Because in time more powerful graphics cards would have eventually done it justice. Tarnished compromised vision. Unacceptable.
>>
FOX is not publicly available.

>>729227193
Because they cannot just outsource their projects to Chinks and Pajeet with FOX, like they are doing now with UE5 and both SH and MGS.

MGSV is still one of the best looking games I've ever played and it ran on my old ass 1060 with 3gb of vram with everything maxed out

The industry of today is ill
>>

>I'd have preferred the scenario where even our PCs were struggling to have ran it well at it's launch
Fuck you and fuck your family name.
Kojima Productions and FOX engine were the last guards of the actually skilled game crafting. The game looked GORGEOUS and ran beautiful, and that is the way things should be to this very day.

>>729228013
I literally played it on my GTX 560ti 1GB + i5-2500. Native 1920x1200, all High settings, rock solid 60fps in every single scene.

This is also the concept of parity (don't forget the pointy triangle helmets), which held back what was otherwise at the time shaping up to be a truly next gen title.

Now show me the PC release version. Or the 2015 release of any sort for that matter.

Also, Jewnami butchered TPP, or rather the entire MGSV project, first by chopping it into 2 products, and then releasing the second part prematurely.

If you actually took the time to inspect any row in that gif image you would know that plenty of it did not make it into the PC release version. We inherited a majority of the flaws of the console version. Just a little less 'no pointy helmets' severe in some regards. Both in the Ground Zeroes and in the Phantom Pain. I can post both examples from both games if you want, but your eye should have been trained to spot all of the visual blemishes and imperfections on the GZ one.
>>
>>729227521
basically this, it's easy to outsource work for unreal since it's the standard, you don't have to train the indians on how to use your custom engine.
>>
I unironically believe Kojima to be a genius, so I expect people just can't be bothered learning it rather than UE5 actually being superior. Fox Engine games look great and run well even on old hardware.

All Kojima games are S tier, aside from MAYBE Metal Gear Acid which is the only one I haven't played. But if someone told me it was S tier I wouldn't doubt them. /v/ likes to make fun of him with memes like him inventing the camera, but he has legitimately never made a bad game.
>>
Konami fired Kojima and probably just deleted the code for the game engine Kojima had made. Even if they dusted it off nobody would know how to use it any longer, they fired the guys who did who would've promptly forgotten how to use it. Tech knowledge unused undergoes brainrot.
>>
If unreal engine is so bad then why do people prefer remakes powered by unreal engine 5 over uncslop? If Indians are so bad then why every country in the world want to import us? Maybe because they ARE superior?
>>
>>729227085
I think people are overestimating what an engine can do and underestimate what the bulk of optimization (which happens during asset creation and level design) can do. That said, Fox engine and the games made with it both look better and run smoother than recent games.

or maybe that dumbass chink hideki teriyaki shouldn't have spent all of konami's budget on wining and dining b-list hollywood celebs and fucking MAKE HIS FUCKING GAME

This is probably a naive thing to say, but I think the game industry getting used to / normalising the practice of only contracting people for a single game is kind of the sauce of a lot of the problems it's facing. I think the constant rotation of developers kind of stifles a lot of potential ideas or advancements, and results is pretty rushed projects from people who are never given a chance to fully figure out how to work together long term
>>
>>729227085
MGSV looks dated. Not that I'm surprised this grifter made a video about it, his whole shtick is just reading reddit comments about which games are optimized and making his content to bait those people.

It would have looked great if it weren't for consoles smashing it to pieces.
>>
>>729232094
i was playing mgs5 yesterday and thought how good it looked for being 10 years old
>>
>>729227085
Because mgsv is a plain featureless stretched out terrain with like 5 things going on max at once. This is what you morons call muh optimization. GTA5 looked better than this years before.
>>
>>729232535
b-b-b-buh KOJIMA IS GOD. he made the engine using blood & magic. YOU DON'T GET IT BRO.
>>
>>729230526
perfect for gorgeous looks
>>
>>729231936
This is a symptom not the root cause.
But you can't do anything about it so enjoy good games and ignore the rest.

Anyway i thought it was worth mentioning that Kojima compromised his final product quite significantly for optimization on console purposes. The end result was something less impressive. Whether it is relevant to your perspective of what this means is up for you to work out. So the final game came at cost.
