STOP N SWOP HAS BEEN FULLY EXPLAINED BY EX-RARE DEV, NOT CLICKBAIThttps://x.com/i/status/2003233190173962732

>>729229624>SWOPIt's swap, ESL.
This uncslop dogshit absolutely blew boomgroids minds back in the day. Had them crashin out fr
>>729229719Stop N Swop was always named that way baiter-kun
am I missing something? We already knew most of this.
>>729229624More like Stop N Slop
Oh so that's what that empty pedestal in Creepy Castle was for.
>>729229624>>729229637>>729229679What is this and what does it have to do with niggers? I'd just assume this was click bait, had you not explicity stated it is not.
>>729229624Why go through all of this when memory cards for the N64 existed?
>Next N64 Gameqrd
>>729230189Dev said "we wanted everyone to be able to do it not just pak owners" in the replies
>>729230172Cut feature from the Rare N64 games, where you could do something in one game, remove the cartridge and quickly swap it for another game's, then have something be unlocked in it.
>>729230214I dunno, I think it's something to do with speed runners and/or autists cutting off their dicks and taking hormones because the internet told them it would be a good idea?
who cares about this unc shit garbage for real
>>729230304qrd on what your post has to do with banjo
>>729229637>>729229679Grok, give me a summary of this book
>>729230346like with most N64 games now, I just assume they are tranny slop
>>729229679>DK and others playable in Tooie Multiplayer ModeI always forget that Tooie had a Multiplayer Mode in it, but that would've been pretty cool to see happen. Pure playground rumor stuff, seeing your buddy have DK and when asked they talk about swapping out the cartridges really fast.
>>729229624The rare interesting twitter screencap thread. Of course most modern /v/ posters don't understand what it's about and start frothing at the mouth
>>729230279>we wanted everyone to do it>but we wanted to still ensure that people that owned all of the games could do it instead of being able to pass along a much cheaper and more replaceable memory card with the data on it for people that did not have every game readily available to themOkay so it's good to know that it was flawed from the start
>>729230553banjo bloemie poomie
>>729230654It was standard RARE hyperautism
>>729230653And yet your only contribution to the thread is a vain attempt to make yourself feel superior to faceless mass of ignorants you've created in your mindBit sad that, no?
What was "Next N64 Game"? Perfect Dark?
>muh heckin scrimblo bimblo secretsIf you care even the least, you're a monumental faggot.
>>729230916Conker's Bad Fur Day most likely
>>729229624>>729229637>>729229679Fucker I WANT to know more about stop n swop but even THIS is too much for me to care to fucking read. Can you give me the fucking cliff notes??
>>729230304It's Christmas Eve and you're obsessing over trannies online
>>729231060is there a better time of year to obsess over trannies online?
>>729229972We actually knew almost none of this.>Ice Key was actually supposed to give you 101st jiggie (before the count was finalized as 90), which activated a special BT ending we never knew about >Gold DK bust gave you playable DK characters in Tooie multiplayer>Eggs we still don't know what they were supposed to do even with this document>Also confirms that Stop N Swop was meant for at most 4 N64 games, three of which we know to be BK, DK64 and BT.Remember that all the unlockable the Xbox Stop N Swop gave were made up for that port of the game.
this. changes. everything.
>>729229870tf blud yappin about fr
>>729230654Are you reading what you write?>it's cheaper to own all three games + pay for the memory cards than just the three games aloneFucking moron.
>>729231125Fair enough. Do what makes you happy.
>>729230279I can understand to an extent, but after finding out swapping carts was a no-go they should have fallen back to the memory card.
>>729229679>The Gold DK Bust>Donkey Kong (and possibly others from DK64) will now be available as controllable multiplayer characters.I really need to see this. The Banjo-Tooie multiplayer is crazy fun.
but if you own dk64 you literally got the memory pak alongside it
>>729231824Different peripheral.
>>729231442It's more practical/less expensive if you know people with certain games that you don't have. People would largely prefer lending out memory cards than entire carts if getting everyone to use this feature was the goal. Everyone includes people that do not have all of the games. Let me put it this way:>own BT>hear about unlockable characters for multiplayer I can't get>know someone with DK64>I activate the undecided feature/criteria to prime DK64>proposed method: need to ask them for their cart or for them to come to me/me to go over to them to unlock the thing>memory card method: either player just needs to own a memory card, then just hand off that memory card back and forth until the desired output occursWAY fucking easier to hand off a storage device as opposed to an entire cart with software on it.
>>729231608the way the code for the secret eggs already existed in BK was designed for a cold-swap. There was no function on the BK cart to save the data to a memory card.
>>729232086oh then yeah nobody would have it
>>729229624huh neat
>>729230304>>729230553>thread about banjo-tooie>TRANNIESTRANNIESTRANNIESTRANNIESTRANNIESTRANNIESmeds, now
>>729231127>>Eggs we still don't know what they were supposed to do even with this documentXbox egg rewards likely not the same as the 64 ones btw.
>>729229637>>729229679sounds complicated I think they probably would've scrapped it even if nintendo told them it isn't consistently possible across models
>>729229624>check thread>full of a bunch of gen Zers crying they have to read a whole 4 page document, and its "too hard cliff notes please!!"jesus christ
>>729229624>writing a design doc in comic sansdo bongs really?
Remember Stop N Swop II?
>>729232527Yeah this thread tells me /v/ has become insufferable for any sort of meaningful discussion. I wish Mayles revealed this 10 years ago so 2015 /v/ could at least break it down.
>>729229637>>729229679>comic sans
>>729232605That was always meant to be tongue in cheek.
>>729232125Right but depending on when Nintendo shut the idea down, they could have implemented it. I always thought they found out while still developing BK but maybe I'm wrong. Considering they didn't remove the bonus ending and eggs, I guess they probably found out too late to make any meaningful changes to the idea.
>>729232524It's not that it's complicated. It's that it's complicated for zoomers and would have been perfectly comprehensible to gen x and millenials who were used to drawing up their own maps on NES and solving actual dungeon puzzles in 64 Zelda games.
>>729231127Given the timing the fourth game was likely going to be either the original version of Conker or Dinosaur Planet.
Who cares? It didn't happen.
>>729232527it's not even 4 pages, it's two, ironically you clearly didn't even read it yourself
>>729232952Did you read it first, or did you check the replies then read it?
>>729232876When are you gonna give up and just start spamming
>>729229870deadass fr fr tho?
>>729229624I didn't know DK64 was planned to be part of it. I can definitely see why Nintendo shot this down then. They let Rare make DK64 sure, but there was no way they would approve a non Nintendo IP showing up in a Nintendo game and vice versa at the time. It wasn't even until the wii that we got non Nintendo characters in smash.
>>729232795Most likely dinosaur planet. The original game had a "cuter" style before getting mixed in with the star fox series.
>>729233489Well there was also the more pressing fact the later revisions of the N64 dumped the data in temporary RAM much faster than the ones Rare had initially tested the idea with so it wouldn't have been feasible. They really should have just used the memory card controller attachment.
>>729229624imagine if this was successful and continued over to next genthere could have been a different version that was link or internet based but still had in-game item trading capabilitiesthere could have been a simple online multiplayer feature too for combining elements from two different games >>729232527zoomers have no real gamesjust cinematic slop
>>729233806That's actually not true. Stop N Swop is possible on any N64 cartridge given the right timing and Nintendo was just apprehensive on its real world performance. Given the right speed you could absolutely transfer data between any two carts. The problem is the kinds of people handling these carts back then would probably break something in the process which may have lead to complaints by the parents of broken hardware.
>>729230840Your response proves his point.
>stop n' stop
>>729233948Either way the other dude's right, it's better to use the memory card attachment. The problem is that it would boost the cost of the retail releases and possibly lock out players that don't have it.
>>729233827Know what's crazy? Cartridges may have had a problem retaining data, but disc-based games that loaded things into the console's memory didn't at all. That's why we had games with multiple discs. If Rare stuck with Nintendo in the 6th gen, we likely would have actually gotten Stop N Swop between Banjo Threeie, Star Fox Adventures and Kameo amongst others and it would have totally worked no matter how long the wait between disc swaps.
>>729233489>They let Rare make DK64 sure, but there was no way they would approve a non Nintendo IP showing up in a Nintendo game and vice versa at the time.Anon, you know that Diddy Kong Racing released prior to Banjo Kazooie and featured DK's Diddy Kong alongside Banjo and Conker, right?
>>729232273only they like these poop games though
>>729234340Yeah but banjo and conker weren't their own IPs yet. It's why they got cut from the DS version.
>>729234113>If Rare stuck with Nintendo in the 6th genRare was abandoned by nintendo after being dealt the horrible cards of one of those games you listed. They couldn't just have a dev outperform them on their own console with shit like stop n swop.
>>729234113you are so fucking right >borrow my cousins gamecube game>he ejects it while I was playing it >can move through the world indefinitely until game needs to load when I quit to the main menu6th gen was amazing > Banjo Threeie, Star Fox Adventures and Kameoan arwing in bj3 or dragon kazooie in starfox fuck, that would be so fun
>>729234559They were their own IPs. They were in DKR to promote their upcoming releases, they weren't Diddy Kong characters they later decided to give their own games. The reason they were cut from the DS remake is because Rare, including Banjo and Conker, were bought by Microsoft at that time.
>>729234713The creators of Rare wanted out and didn't care who bought them in the end.
>>729234954And why do you think nintendo let them go to their competitor instead of buying them?
>>729234954Which is why Nintendo got away with it. They also had no clue why Nintendo didn't buy them earlier.>>729235053>Because at the last minute before they were actually going to buy them, microsoft overbid because they knew Nintendo was buckbroke and couldn't afford to keep them AND make a new console in the next generation.they could only choose one option so they chose to barely limp along gamecube.
>>729232524everything in tooie was complicated. rare jumped the shark and started making too many 2deep4u quests with tedious busywork instead of the dumb and fun kazooie type quests.
The idea was beyond stupid. Relying on ram to maintain its contents after having been powered off. The Nintendo rejection letter for the idea(seen it elsewhere) was far too kind.
>>729235439cd based stop and swop would have been kino though
>>729232527>cool news about video games>but how can I ignore this and make it about me and my insecurities about being oldWhy can't you just like video games, anon
>>729234760Based GameCubeGOD anon
>>729235439>And yet he only reason they even used carts and had that stupid pointless "Expansion pak" was because of Rare. The only reason OoT was even good was because of Rare, but explaining that is too inconvenient.
>>729236285I thought the expansion pak was because of lucasarts
>>729236402It was Rare pushing its use because they were getting sick of using a system gimped of RAM. You're partially right in that it was also the only cope way other actual game developers could put their games on a fart cart.
