>Marry Christmas zoomer son!
>It is 500 robux, 200 vbucks and a 20$ steam gift card!

How depressing

Modern kids dont even get real games as gifts, just digital crap

I miss getting Zelda for Christmas/my birthday.

I always tried to buy my nephews real games
When I had a job lmao

How is it depressing if it's what they want and makes them happy
Did you get what you wanted and made you happy as a kid for Christmas?

When I was a kid my parents didn't have too much of a clue about PC games though we did have an NES to play with so they took me like big electronics stores in December and let us choose whatever game we wanted as a present
Sure the element of surprise was taken away and we still had to open it on Christmas day but that was how I got and played, to this day, one of my most memorable games of all time, Soul Reaver.
To me that freedom of choice and end result with it was what made me the most happy. That's what these digital gift cards for kids these days seem equivalent to so I see no problem with it.

When (You) don't take interest in your son's hobbies or his life, and it turns out your son doesn't have any hobbies or a life to begin with, what else are you supposed to do?
I always got really thoughtful gifts from my parents growing up, and I always gave them as thoughtful of gifts as I was able to back then because we all communicated and actually knew each other as people, not merely as entities occupying a similar space as one another.
Though, I'll admit, my dad was always really good about picking interesting vidya when he'd get me vidya gifts back in the day. I still appreciate him for getting me shit like Destroy All Humans 2, SSX3, Burnout 3, and Elite Beat Agents. I don't honestly know whether he was getting advice from gaming magazines/review sites or just making really good guesses, but he rarely disappointed.

I buy my sister's sons books every Christmas and birthday
I figure the faster they become literate the faster they can realize that algorithms keep feeding them slop and they can instead manually search for something worth watching

I was doing the same for my niece and nephew but I was having conversations with them and understanding what they liked and I recommended things. I got them nice collections of books and individual novels as well which they appreciated. Initially. However they were forced to read by their mom and very strictly so like a set timeframe for mandatory reading and there's cameras all over the house so the mom can also see and know exactly when and where and how long they were reading. Because of this over the years it seems they grew a dislike for reading and now aren't as happy with my gift of books for them. They still begrudgingly read and I hear it's stricter than ever now that they're both past 10 yo getting into middle school and all that but any other free time they have when they're allowed to, they're just on their devices the usual youtube and roblox.
I don't know what advice to give them or talk to them but at this point it is what it is.

It feels a little sad and maybe even confusing but such is generation divide but back when I was young, I wanted to read and read for fun on my own time. Oh well.
>>

school wasn't any better
even 20 years ago english classes in american public schools were reading edgy coming of age books about situationships and other terrible modern shit
no LOTR
no Fahrenheit 451
no Odyssey
no classics like The Republic
One of my teachers made us read some terrible book about a boy who crashed out because he groped his girlfriend and then she broke up with him and then "found himself"
You could obviously tell only women chose the books
Nothing we read was actually enriching for the SOVL
It was all slop
So of course millennials and their children hate reading
>>
i wish my parents got me presents for christmas that weren't trauma and cheapest chocolate + 10 bucks in my currency
>>
i never buy gifts for anyone it feels awkward when parents and uncles and grandparents still all send me just money. I wish they'd stop but the one time i asked them they thought i was about to blow my brains out or something and got all defensive about how i "deserve" it lmao.
>>
>>729237281
What a damn shame
>>
>>729237281
our teachers made us read mostly german classic literature. Pretty gud actually.
You can still consider yourself lucky, imagine being forced to read modern literature

Why doesn't your sister love her kids?
>>
>>729238741
Putting cameras up to make sure your children are spending x amount of hours a day doing something is crazy. Just sit them in the same room as you or take away their phone/tablet for a few hours.
>>
>>729238878
How does that enforce them to read?
>>
Why do kids these days have to be "enforced" to read?
>>
>>729235590
They don't want things that I want, which means they're committing the most unforgivable crime of all: NOT BEING MEEEEEEEEEEEE.
>>
>>729239248
Are you your dad?
Why should your kids be you?
>>
>>729235467
>just digital crap
I got a pepe mug, pepe keycap and some pepe socks. Feels good to have someone that cares about your interests.
>>
>>729239295
>Why should your kids be you?
Because EVERYONE should be me. Me is better than not-me because me is me. If that wasn't true, me wouldn't be me, because what's the point of me being me if me isn't better than not-me?
>>
>>729235467

What did you buy for your family this christmas?

For my sister I bought a vintage plushie of a 80s Olympics mascot, my mom is gonna get a DNA kit (she wants to know if she has injun blood, she's pretty dark), my dad I got a few books and those wooden brain puzzles (he loves that shit).

Because adults force them to read generic "classics" instead of something they could have genuine interest in.
I read tons of various books as a kid but I still hated being told to read le classics.
>>
>>729236793
>such is generation divide
After I got SNES I didn't read a single book on my own for about nine years.
>>
>>729239767
Actually in the story above
>>729236793
The books gifted to them to read were based on recommendations that connected with them that they wanted or were intrigued in reading. Initially at least.

My mom got a botanical painting painted by my friend (botanical painter) since she loves his work and has mentioned she would love to have an orchid painted by him on her wall. My dad got some car parts for his hobby car + non-alcoholic beer collection (former heavy user who now only drinks non-alcoholic beer). My granpa got a joint gift from me and my brother: brother uses his leftover cruising points to buy him a cruise to Sweden. I'll join him as company. Being an old sailor, my gramps has always wanted to see the Vasa ship (galleon?), a huge sailing ship that sunk, was lifted back to the shore hundreds of years later and a museum was built around it.

I'm the little voice in your head that whines "But what about meeeeeeeeeeee?" Every time someone makes a thread that can be boiled down to "people who aren't me exist and I'm angry about that", they let me take the wheel. I am the ego embodied.
