Has any game besides this one ever done time travel right?
>>729235646Hardly ever. It's a hard trope to get correct.
That's not a game. That's a VN. If that counts then my answer is 999. It not only has way better utilization of the concept, it is also a way better game.

>>729235849Name one single moment of Steins Gate with better time travel mechanics than when you solve the sudoku puzzle.
>>729235924>sudoku is le hard>all you have to do is check for availability of every number in every tile
>>729235646I heard about that one RTS with time travel during the match but I heard it was ultimately irrelevant or something Radiant Historia was pretty cool tho
>>729235924>imageIt's hard for me to imagine people hating VNs so much that they watch a streamer do them while they spam pepe and poggers emotes. What's the point?Anyway, yeah that was a great moment but I feel like time travel was more integral to Steins;gate even if both stories concluded with it.
>>729235646Pathologic 3 launches in two weeks
>>729235646Visual novels are not games.
>>729235924the sudoku puzzle of 999 is one of these otherwordly experiences that everyone should go through, literally peak of videogames or even pinnacle of fiction itselfthere is something chilling about the puzzle standing there with all its mathematical mighty in combination with the morphogenetic sorrow OST + akane crying, and as you solve it you realize that EVERYTHING YOU HAVE BEEN THROUGH this entire fucking game was all created by a child so she could solve this easy sudoku puzzle kekit's absolutely batshit insane, which fits really well with the game's theme of constantly surprising you with absurdityalso there is no way to compare this with steins;gate. I love steins;gate but it doesn't hold a candle to this experience.
>>729235646VLR seems pretty tight in regards to its loops, all the complaints about it are Sigma not noticing he was old from either his reflection or voice (or giant fucking METAL artificial eye touching his face). His skin seemingly gets a pass since he has artificial skin on his arms.
>>729235646Prince of Persia the Sands of Time
>>729235646Steins;Gate's time travel isn't even interesting. It's artificially railroaded because of worldlines forcing certain events to happen arbitrarily.

>>729235646Not many, you posted the best game to use the concept (though it is a story game to be fair)
>>729236759I found that interesting, it’s usually either changing things creates alternate timelines or it all effects one big timeline and that combined both but with that aspect in as well. Only thing similar with the predestination I’ve seen myself was Legacy of Kain, and I think that was also particularly interesting that time itself will attempt to correct for any changes to keep events the same (until it can’t and I think turns out worse? I still need to finish Defiance but I got spoiled in bits over the years)

>>729236225>Visual novels are not games.Yes, that's exactly the reason why VNs can be art, while games can't.

>>729237750It’ll still probably piss me off and I prefer the old art anyways, but it would’ve been a much bigger shit show had they not decided to preserve the 2010’s setting and lingo. That would’ve been a painful bastardization to witness (something I found funny yet disturbing in a thread discussing it was an anon saying Daru would be playing Genshin on his phone instead of referencing Clannad)
>>729237927>I didn't understand the story
>>729238435>dood its like chaos theory or whatever>le butterfly effect could totally change the chromosomes of the already fertilized embryo life uhhh finds a way
>>729235646>Has any game besides this one ever done time travel right?Chrono Trigger. Also, the only way to do time travel "right" is to use to allow interesting situations to happen in your story. For example, Chrono travels back to the middle ages, forward to the post-apocalypse, back to prehistory, etc. Time travel will never make logical sense, as it's impossible (no matter what sci-fi authors and readers delude themselves into believing), so chasing "realism" is a false idol.
>>729238338mayushi has big tits.
>>729238146It's just so dumb to me when the thing that VNs do best is allow you to escape into another world. Escapism. So people go to streams where it's nothing but real life people commenting and making emotes so the atmosphere is ironic and stupid instead of emotional or serious.
>>729235924I got robbed of this kino by playing the Steam version.

Everyone says this yet no one can explain why Steins' gate time travel is any good .
>>729239729Time travel forward is possibleTime travel backwards is more tricky and nuanced, if you found a way to travel faster than light then there's some possibilities to do time fuckery

>>729235646I mean if we're considering VNs as games, I'd like to bring attention to the DDLC mod "Amor Fati". It's a pretty fucked up time loop story about the MC trying to stop Sayori's inevitable death.
