I have this crazy theory, hear me out. What if games were ACTUALLY better in the past, and it's not just nostalgia? What do you think?
>westwoodNo, in your case its nostalgia
>>729242596history is kind to things that were of good quality. for every good game, there is hundreds of bad. this is true for all eras, you think this era is bad because you remember all the bad games still
This was the majority opinion on /v/ up until the normalfag invasion a decade ago.>>729242746Falsehood, there has always been more shit than good but the number of good games per year was dramatically higher in the past. I won't substantiate this claim whatsoever because it's been asked and proven a billion times before on this board and you being retarded is not a problem that I want to waste my time on fixing.
>>729242840I'm not contesting that there were more good games back then, just the fact that game dev cycles were shorter so people could output much more is easy enough proof of that but it would appear you're more interested in being an annoying faggot than actually discussing the subject at hand
>>729242971Begone or I shall taunt you a second time.
>>729242596you can ACTUALLY still play those games from the past and find out. sometimes they were better. most times it's just nostalgia.
>>729242840>This was the majority opinion on /v/ up until the normalfag invasion a decade ago.No it wasn't and people like you were made fun of
>C&Cliterally unplayable poorly aged uncslop and I say that as someone who actually tried playing that shit
>>729243045whatever makes you feel like a big man anon
>>729242596Sturgeon's Law. Accept it or forever be a miserable fuck.
>>729242840your standards for what was "good" back then were lower because you were a child, which is the only reason you think there were more "good" games back then.
>>729243090>drooling shit for brains zoomnigger thinks him mumbling out "durr ha hurr old bad new good" while rolling around on the floor playing with his own stool is some sort of compelling argument and not just a loud, open showcase of how retarded and underage he is
>>729243237You seem very intelligent.
>>729243178That baseless projection explains why I constantly go back and play older games for the first time and find them absolutely amazing perfectly.
>>729243321Thanks, you are a complete moron.
>>729243321UUUU
>>729242596Nah, I wouldn't really say so. Most of the games that were actually worth playing have been successfully iterated upon into an objectively superior product. If not by official developers, then often by their communities. There are some that slipped through the cracks, but it's pretty much balanced out by brand new games that are really good and not like anything made before.I dunno, maybe if you wanna say the "industry" is worse, I'll agree to that, as a lot of trust in the big names has been eroded and transferred to smaller studios and the community, but to allow that to affect your selection of games is to make yourself the bitch boy of corporations. "Woe is me, I have way better video games but the bloated talentless corporations aren't making more money a bloo bloo bloo"
>>729243097How dare you
>>729242596Maybe if you're talking about mainstream games and stuff like AAA
>>729243097As a lifelong C&C fan, I'll give you this C&C Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert aged extremely poorly. The gameplay of Tiberian Sun was kinda dogshit, actually, but the atmosphere was peak kino. Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge are GOAT. They are simplistic, sure, but the enjoyment of them blow most other RTS titles out of the water. Generals, ZH, TW and KW were also great. We don't talk about C&C4.>what of RA3?A bit too goofy for my tastes, desu.
>>729242596You havent played indie games and just focused on AAA slop
>>729242596depends what you mean by betterhow much fun you had? that's probably as much a factor of your age as it is the game. you've never going to have as much fun with a game as an adult as you would as a childfor example, probably a 12 year old now would have more fun with GTA VI than we did with Vice City
>>729242596I would argue that it was actually progressingly getting better until world of warcraft. World of warcraft was the moment that companies became focused solely on profit because blizzard got away with it.
We had more games more often, release cycles were shorterSo de facto we statistically had more good gamesNow if you look at IPs that have 20-30ys the favorite game is most often an old one for various reasonsAlso i play old and new games alike, so i can say without doubt that overall, old good new badAnd anyone that disagree is a tasteless pleb
>>729245710>We had more games more often, release cycles were shorterDo you really believe that, anon?
>>729246330But that is true to an extent, the PS2 alone had thousands of games
>>729246330I would'nt register the gorillion daily steam releases as actual gamesBack then doing a physical release filtered out the trash
>>729242840>I know everything but I don't waste my time spoonfeeding retards so I'll just call you a dum-dumThe classic.
>>729246330>Do you really believe that, anon?Look at Rockstar's release history.
>>729246961But the industry has grown exponentially since back then, even if the dev cycles were shorter I still find it very hard to believe that there was more quantity than today even if you exclude the femboy jigsaw puzzle type of stuff.>>729247112Subjective taste doesn't really matter, but there was just as many bad games and shovelware back then too.>>729247192>look at this one AAA companyIf the post I replied to was talking about only the situation in the mainstream, then my bad for misreading it. I can obviously agree to that.
>>729247616>even if the dev cycles were shorter I still find it very hard to believe that there was more quantity than today even if you exclude the femboy jigsaw puzzle type of stuff.Anon look at the list of PS5 exclusive games and say that again
>>729242746Show me the good ones.
>>729247910Why would we exclusively look at the big corporations who have intentionally bloated developments instead of the entire industry overall?
>>729243123What's this about Nicola Sturgeon?
>>729248105because you are equating industry growth to actual release input, back then it wasnt just PC that was getting games
>>729248328
