The studio that made it was contracted and in-between the lines Team Ninja was distancing themselves as "the brute code monkeys" who operating on what Nintendo wanted. Metroid Other M failed but it delivered on the creative's vision. It was a made for Sakamoto to enjoy only and maybe Nintendo fans who wanna pump out semen for Samus in the Zero Suit.Metroid Prime 4 on the other hand failed and if you asked anyone who worked on Retro Studios they'll probably say they didn't deliver all the ideas they wanted.

Legend of Zelda was kind of dead before BotW revived it by being marketed well. It is the reason why the format pretty much has replaced any old Zelda format. Westerners will more obsessively look through everything and play it all. There are many who play stuff like metroid because they see it pushed as a "nerd game" or whatever. Japanese don't do this as much either despite being supposedly more communalist.
