Give it to me straight. I heard this is the best Metroid game. I've also heard it isn't worth $60. These are paradoxical positions to hold when coming from the same individual. I am beginning to suspect that this isn't as good as people claim or would like to believe.
>>729256192Those people probably only played it once. Or they're Hollow Knight fans. Yeah, they're most likely Hollow Knight fans
If you're a casual that plays a game once on normal and moves on its a hard sell at 60, if you like replaying games then dread is great because hard mode and the boss rush mode are fun
>>729256192It's not THE best, but it's one of the best 2D Metroids for sure. A lot of people unironically compare it to Super, but not necessarily because it's on par with Super. More like it's a fully-realized 2D Metroid game that's not on a handheld, has great movement, great bosses, a neat plot and worthy sequel to Fusion, and some really fun sequence breaking built in to the design. It's $60 because it's a Nintendo game. I'd say something like $40 is more reasonable. The rest is just the Nintendo tax.
Dread > Fusion > Zero Mission > Samus Returns > AM2R > Super
>>729256192It is worth 60 bucks but why would you pay that much when you can get it for cheaper in the second hand market
Just an advice: if you play this and ever feel stuck SHOOT THE DAMN WALLS. I got stuck for several hours because in order to progress you had to shoot a wall. And yes this may sound easy and obvious but in practice it's not easy because how are you supposed to know which wall to shoot? This is a metroidvania you'll have like 100 sections and any wall in any of them could be the one you need to destroy. Bad game design but whatever the fans are rabid and will defend it.
>>729256560
>>729256192It's one of the better Metroids (core gameplay wise) but the parry mechanic is super gay and overused. Also, the pursuit scenes wear out their welcome one or two in, and halts exploration in its tracks. Really stupid design decision. Super and Zero Mission are still the high watermark.
dread is dog shit, which means /v/ loves it.
>>729256560Metroidvanias as a whole are seeing as a less expensive genre. People bitched last year for that PoP game because it was 40, and it was a good game too. Nintendo is indeed the only company that can get away with charging $60 for a Metroidvania.
My only real complaint is with the EMMIs. Having them contained to a specially-marked EMMI zone completely removed all the tension and dread (hehe) from the game.It would have been better if they could show up whenever or wherever, or if they were always hunting you. Or keep the emmi zones, but never tell the player about them and have them look normal so there's at least an illusion of them showing up whenever.I also kept expecting an emmi to break containment and make me shit myself, but that never happened. In fact, they outright dropped the mechanic a quarter of the way into the game.Fusion was a worse game overall, but the way it executed SA-X was 100x scarier and more tense. The transition from beautiful pixel graphics to relatively generic and lit 3D assets really removed a lot of the "darkness" from the backgrounds and setpieces, but that's not an issue exclusive to Metroid.
>>729256192>I heard this is the best Metroid game.absolute dog shit controls and retarded stealth sections
>>729256192It's the most braindead and boring game in the 2D series. It's also really ugly with how the insides of walls are all just pitch-black voids.
played only for a bit but thought it looks ugly and the level design is retarded (like hollow knight)only said the controls are utter shitanyone who says it's great is a complete retard just based on the controls
>>729257335If they did that they'd have to also wildly change the actual mechanics of the EMMIs. They aren't actually patrolling shit, they always know where you are when you're in their zone, and they'll keep routing to exactly where you're standing until they properly "hear" or "see" you. Leaving it up to actual game mechanics or, god forbid, the player's own skill, whether and when they can disengage from the threat is not kosher in modern Nintendo IPs.
>hold L+move L stick+hold R+press Xthis is an actual control scheme in this retarded game
>>729257420>>729257958What's supposed to be the issue with the controls? And by "like hollow knight" do you mean nonlinear?
>>729258351unc is too old to move his fingers lmao

>>729258412>What's supposed to be the issue with the controls?>>729258351>And by "like hollow knight" do you mean nonlinear?feels nonsensical and random
>>729256192It's not the best Metroid game but it is very good. I think it's worth $60 because I don't do retard maths to justify my purchases like hours per dollar.Anyone complaining about the price doesn't have a switch and wasn't gonna pay for it anyway
>>729258542seething unc can't move his greasy fingers on a controller looooool
>>729258887you are a retarded turd shill
>>729258943unc seething kekkk
>>729258351What's preventing you from being able to use both hands at the same time? This literally only demands you use your thumb and index finger too.Do you have some sort of disease?
>>729259045you are a retard
>>729259108Are you a cripple or otherwise physically inept?
Painfully average 2D Metroid game that came out during the "Nintendo can do no wrong" era so it's praised as a masterpiece somehow
Something I've realised is the kind of person who complains about Dread being railroaded is the exact same kind of idiot who thinks Zero Mission has no sequence breaks. The game asks for just a little bit more game knowledge and a little bit more skill to do some sequence breaks and people assume they don't exist
>>729256192Two things can be true. Dread is easily a top 3 Metroid game, but it's also overpriced at $60. And if it follows the budget / pricing of something like Z-A, the game probably made a return on investment after a fairly conservative number of sales. I wish they would experiment with lower prices for stuff like this, but I'm not holding my breath.
>>729256192see this >>729256557. I think it's worth $40. If you're only gonna play it once then $30. At thirty dollars you're on the higher end of Metroivania. I would not call it the 10/10 Metroidvania experience but it is very fun and solid for what it is, a more horror Metroid with some linearity but a solid Metroidvania fun. Nintendo would've sold more copies if it was 40MSRP. There's a demo to try. Don't forget you have to parry in this game so if thats gonna be a problem now you know. The boss battles are overtuned to prevent people from face tanking the game. So you might wanna play on the easy difficulty.
>>729259952>Two things can be true.No they can't, it's either worth that money or it isn't. You can't say a game not worth its price is good, that's nonsense.
>>729260278What's your favorite food?Would you pay one million us dollars to eat it once?
>>729259045This, if you're incapable of using both thumbs and index fingers to make an input at the same time, you probably shouldn't be playing video games in the first place
>>729256192It's definitely worth the 60.But why the fuxk would you pay that when emulation is free? It runs super well on the deck
>>729260480I eat whatever is on sale, it's food. If I crave something I pay full price for convenience.
>>729262123Okay. Your favorite food is on sale for $900,000.Are you buying it?
>>729256192>I heard this is the best Metroid gameBut enough about AM2R
>>729262227>If I crave something I pay full price for convenience.the game is $60 you retard
As a Metroidvania style game, it's dogshit. There is no exploration, game is linear as fuck. If at some point you want to backtrack, game will block you.Honestly I don't understand why so many people like it here.
>>729263538The question was whether something can both be good and not worth its price. If you are correct, if you think something is good, you'd pay any price for it.The fact that you're not willing to pay $900,000 for something you admitted was good (your favorite food) is proof that you can envision a scenario where something is both good (it's your favorite, after all) and not worth its money (based on your typing style, you seem like someone who likes pizza, which is usually under $30 a pie and paying $900,000 for it would be ridiculous).
>>729256192>Best MetriodNot even closeSuper, ZM, Fusion, and AM2R all shit on it. People who say that probably started with SR or Dread.
Metroid games are meant to be replayed several times. If you aren't that type of player don't bother. Play some bloated "metroidvania" slop that takes dozens of hours
Did Dread mode add new jpegs to collect
>>729256505I think Dread is serviceable, but Hollow Knight honestly is the better game. You guys don't get to complain about souls games being parry slop, when you gladly lap up parries in NIntendo games.
Metroid Dread Switch 2 patch with Zero Suit Samus.
