Please understand that a 240hz 1080p monitor will actually show more details in video games due to higher motion clarity than a 60hz 4k monitor and make a wise choice with the money grandma gave you for christmas.
good luck rendering all those frames
>>729272003>no 4:3 or at least 16:10 gaming monitors I'll wait..
>>729272003this is why you should get a CRT
My old monitor would get 3 shadows worth, my new one gets a minor flicker. don't skimp out on the specs you eyes will thank you.
>>729272302He said 1080p
>>729272083The difference is apparent even when the game is running at 30 fps due to sample and hold blur inherent to LCD technology. With other techs the story is different, but LCD is still the most popular display type.
>>7292721914:3 oled would be cool
>>729272481CRTs can display 1080p (and higher).
>>729272003The standard is 4K 165hz and you're poor if you're still buying 1080p or 60hz so this irrelevant.
the only 1080p screens that can properly display 240 are TNoleds start at 1440p
>>729272560Ok but they are extremely rare
>>729272191The arcade industry has some 4:3 arcade monitors on offer. Kind of slept on right now by everyone else. >$600>no idea on response times>no frame or stand
>>729272625the standard is 4k 240hz actually
>>729272003will it make me better at tetris
>>729272692CRT monitors are not rare at all, especially if you're willing to pay grown-up money for one instead of trying to get one for pennies off craigslist.
>>7292727601080p crt's are rare
>>729272549>>729272712It seems like there's certainly a demand. I don't know why we can't just have nice things anymore. I'm pretty sure if you give a person 16:9 monitor for a week and then 4:3 for another he wouldn't go back to 16:9 after.
>>7292720034k is 4x more pixels than 1080p so should be similar load to render 240fps 1080p to 4k60, cpu bottleneck willing
I just got my new 180hz monitorThis is my first time having a monitor that can go higher than 60. I set my display to 180 hz in my display settings.I can see a bit of a difference, but its not really that important.
>>729273316This isn't about FPS. The 240hz monitor will show much less blur at 60 fps than the the 60hz monitor will. When fast motion is on screen a 60hz 2160p monitor will only show about 300-400 lines of detail. With a 240hz 1080p monitor that same scene will retain much more detail, around 800-1000 lines. So the lower resolution monitor is actually more "high definition" for video gaming than the higher res one.
>>729273394What game are you playing? You'll see the biggest difference in games that scroll the entire screen at once.
>>729272302>What is phosphor decay
>>729274857Phosphor decay is way faster than anything even the best LCDs can offer.
>>729272738IT WILL MAKE YOU WORSE
>>729272738You would have to look into the speed of what tetris game you're playing is. Tetris has a static background, and the blocks will fall at a certain number of pixels per second. If that speed is faster than the blur threshhold of your monitor then your blocks will begin to look blurry.I could see a top level Tetris: The Grand Master player encountering issues with blur.
>>72927330616:10 was a decent trade off
whats the point in trying to play a competitive game at 240hz? youre still going to suck at the game. lol
Anything above 60 is a memeYou can notice it, sure, but it's not really that much better, it's not worth it tbdesu
>>729275502This isn't about competitive games. It's about literally seeing the graphics in high definition instead of blur.
>>729275805I think you're confusing frames per second with refresh rate. You need a 240hz refresh rate to see 1080p 60fps properly without losing a massive amount of motion details.
>>729272560AFAIK, theses who can have more input lag than the ones who doesn't, defeating the purpose of crt. no?
>>729272003>tfw using a 24" 1440p 280hz (glossy)OLED monitorI pity the coping third wolders in here.
I don't see much difference after 120 FPS
>Upgraded PC for the first time in 10 years>Modern video games running maxed out at 200 fps with G-SyncBros, my eyes have been unlocked in the exact same way that Gohan and Krillin had their potential unlocked on Namek.
>>729275137does this mean i need to buy a CRT if i want to improve my 40 line sprint times
>>729272003i have a stupidly expensive 240hz benq monitor from when i was an esea tryhard in csgo, and unless you play fps competitively its really not that important to have
>>729275805Holy fucking copium.
>mfw I can't see the meme alien on my monitorNow how will I play video games
>>729276007Your AFAIK is under-informed.Any random decent CRT monitor can display 1080 lines of resolution (1600x1200 and 1280x1024 being common high resolution modes). They will have "zero" lag if they are CRT monitors (8.33ms on average in 60hz).If you're talking about HDTV CRTs then they display in 1080i, and the tend to have around 20ms of input delay from signal processing. There are also high resolution CRT projectors, which are usually closer to a monitor than a TV in performance and controls. They also have "zero" lag for the most part. They have the highest capabilities of any CRTs, and can do interlaced 4k, though can't resolve the full quality due to limitations in their lenses.
165 1440p is the sweet spotbest place to be rn
>>729276214If can't see the alien how did you make this post?
>>729276049>glossyWhy.
I play mostly 2d games via retroarch. I need muh 4k for CRT-Royale.Old video games ran in 60hz refresh rate, but their animations were not in 60 frames per second. The only things that would be updated at 60 frames per second would be scrolling objects (backgrounds, character moving across the screen). Like when Ryu throws a fireball in SF2 he's not going through 60 different animation frames. He's holding on one frame for several refresh updates. The pixel speed on the scrolling objects in the games I play is pretty slow. I'm not playing competitive FPS games whipping 180 degrees around. I would be most affected by side-scrolling platformers and shmups. But since the games I play are fairly low resolution the amount of blur displayed is not destroying detail. It just softens things a little bit. Individual in-game game pixels of 224p games don't disappear.
>>729276235That's not much better than a good lcd display.
>>729276981Indeed.
