does quali get more difficult as you progress? I have only done the first race of each path, but using the “hard” car for each I only managed to miss the front row once
qualifying and stuff is cool but I always feel like it’s a cop out in single player to qualify first and then just drive in front of everyone for the race
maybe I am the only person who liked how the races in the “campaign” were really just driving missions to pass the cars in front of you

I've been replaying Most Wanted because the mod that ports the graphics of the 360 version was updated recently. The performance hit has been significantly reduced and the visuals are now like 99% accurate.

https://nfsmods.xyz/mod/1200
This mod is also required: https://nfsmods.xyz/mod/3363

I also found mods that increase the difficulty of the game. The game is much more fun when you actually have to do your best to win races, though it also means that using starter cars is not viable beyond the very early parts of the career mode.

This mod increases the difficulty of AI racers:
https://nfsmods.xyz/mod/5565
This mod also does the same, but it has a component that tightens up the time limits of tollbooth races. I suggest you only install the tollbooth component and let the other mod handle the AI difficulty:

>>
>>729278218
I'm someone who isn't massively into racing games, but every now and again I get an itch to play a racing game with a more arcadey style but there are so many games that I have no idea which to go for

can anyone give me a few recommendations of modern (or relatively modern) racing games worth playing? I've looked on Steam for racing games from time to time and there are so many that I just end up with decision paralysis (there's like 20 fucking NFS games and I hear some are abysmal dogshit whilst some are pretty good)
If it helps, some of the racing games I've played and enjoyed in the past are Ridge Racer 7, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Split/Second, Burnout 2, 3, and Paradise

is Forza Horizon any good? I've looked at it a few times but I'm sceptical of any game made too closely with Microsoft
>>
>>729288628
You can emulate Burnout Revenge. Forza is fun too. The variety in car types keeps it fresh for a while.

I have ocasional racing game itch as well. Nfs hot pursuit 2010 and most wanted 2012 work for me the best. They are both relatively normal, simple, no story, no tuning, no over the top craziness.
is Forza Horizon any good?
Kinda. Depends on your personality. For me, the whole vibe of the games is too annoying. Forza Horizon 3 is probably the best, but I think it can't be purchased anymore. At least digitally.

NFS Heat is the best recent (last 12 years) NFS. I would've recommended 2015 over it because the atmosphere is superior (the cringe acting overflows into becoming endearing) but the handling is utmost ass (you literally have input lag when steering). I heard there's mods for it but I haven't tried any.

For non-NFS titles, I recommend The Crew (or The Crew 2 if you want to use planes and boats too for some reason) because it has a wonderful scale map of the entire US. I also strongly recommend the new TXR as well, but it's not a game for everyone, you either love it or hate it, no inbetween. Amazing worldbuilding though, a lot of attention paid to background characters.

My combo these days it Dirt Rally and GRID 2019.
Very underrated. There is nothing like GRID 2019 in terms of feel. Cinematic driving. Not a sim but better than NFS. Assuming you disable everything and play in cockpit.
NFS tried to become cinematic with the story and cutscenes, GRID 19 puts the cinematic things in the driving
>audio cues when you are about to lose grip
>massive contact audio effects
>some tuning sliders that do make a difference, the city curbs become deadly with low stiff rides
>mechanic chat mechanic with options like in TOCA Driver 3
>the ai does get into accidents
>nemesis system, if you make a driver angry he will make it his mission to ram you and spin you
>multiple race disciplines
Unfortunately you need the racing corner lines at first, because from the cockpit view is very hard to see them if you don't know the maps.
GRID 1 was insane but 2019 shouldn't get the hate it does.

>>
>>729291767
How am I supposed to configure that?
>>
>>729291840
What game doesn't let you configure controls? If such game exists, you can always get it done through Steam Input.
>>
>>729291897
The average racing game only allows you to change key binds, but controller's thumbs? Just sensibility and dead zone, not that pic.
>>
>>729291998
Well, you're the one who controls your own thumbs. You just map throttle to right stick +Y axis and brake to -Y axis. The red markings are just there to show where you should hold your thumbs to get the best control, because it doesn't seem many people here are able to figure it out on their own.

>>
>>729291767
Problem with steering on a thumb is limiting it to 180°. It should let you to use some extra grades for total turning, this way is too narrow. Sensibility is too high for anything past 100 mph.

Huh, don't you guys have a spare room for your raceist setup?
>>
>>729292373
You need to completely eliminate deadzones and change the analog stick curve (especially for steering) to be sub-linear (move less when near the center). If the game doesn't have the option to change the output curve, you need to use Steam Input or some other software.
>>
>>729291767
>push thumbstick forward
>it's actually very slightly to the right or the left and the car starts swerving like crazy
>>
>>729292565
Only game I've seen letting you adjust steering curve is BeamNG, which is ironic because it really needs a lot of turn grades, otherwise you should be using a steering mod.
>>
>>729292652
No, I would say most sim and simcade games released in the past ten years have an option to change steering linearity.

Turn off those notifications and LISTEN to your co-driver. Your eyes should be focused completely on the road and the next section of the track. Taking your eyes off to glance up at the icons will always fuck you up. Litsen to your co-driver and learn everything he is saying. Anything with a third pedal, you will need it if rallying. T300 rs gt or logitech g923 is I think still the entry level. I for one have thrustmaster and the amount of aftermarket mods is impressive, not sure if logitech has similar amounts of crap, mods, aftermarket things etc.

Heres a fun trick to get a cheap shifter for the thrustmaster. Buy a forparts but complete th8a off ebay. Once it arrives order a new one off Amazon and when it gets to you just swap the broken into the box of the one you ordered from Amazon and return it saying it didn't work. Well PC3 fixes that but I would say that killed the appeal for a lot of its fans.

I like the game, though.
>>

I bought it and it's fun. But what I don't like is that there is no tire wear and gasoline consumption. That would really make it more immersive. Missed opportunity. Or does it come in later races? Like why driving 24h Nürburgring without pit stops?

The earlier talk of need for speed underground has stirred up a memory of when I got the ps2 version as a christmas present in 2003. So because of that later on I will be indulging in some alcohol and will likely get the urge to give it a play but i'm left with a dilemma. Do I;

1) Play it on real ps2 and 21" crt that has seen better days, dealing with the (iirc) unstable 30fps it runs at for an experience very much like I had back in the day
or
2) Play the PC version on my modern computer and oled screen allowing for glorious 4k resolution, widescreen (duh 4k) and perhaps more importantly a rock solid 60fps (or higher if that works, I don't know yet) for crisp visuals in a way I could've only dreamed of in 2003

wat do?

Yeah, I've seen clips of it. I only ever played the PS version.

Sometimes I can chain drifts and sometimes the car just stops accepting any input mid way through a chain, grips and just goes forward and off the track.

NFS Rivals is kind of grippy but still lets you get a decent drift going.

NFS 2015 is excessively grippy and that's the main reason I don't enjoy the game compared to the others.

NFS Payback handles about like you'd expect with "brake to drift" games and that's part of why I like the game the most.

Americans prefer being able to watch all the competitors on the course together, instead of in intervals like rally. Rallycross should be more popular, but that's basically how stock car racing got started with hillbillies driving around in the dirt, so it evolved into NASCAR and sprint car racing. Small oval tracks are simply much easier to both create and watch.

Nothing's stopping them, but cars designed for a few hours of oval racing and cars designed for endurance racing on road courses are so dissimilar that it'd be pointless. Either you make the race a standard NASCAR length and the sportscars get left in the dust, or you make the race long enough that all the stock cars blow their asses like what happened at Le Mans 2023. You might as well try to put F1 cars in Le Mans.
>>
>>729304961
no, it's fucking dogshit, drives like ass, most of the game is recycled assets from grid 2019, the story is genuinely horrible, written and directed by people that have never seen a motor race in their lives, just replay grid 2008 with the xtra mod

because the map and sound design of FH4 are the worst in the series, FH5's map isn't much better, but cars sound more like what they're supposed to and the track editor community is a lot more active

When I say "NASCAR should just be another GT3 series" I mean it as an insult. All these stupid street circuits and cup series cars being divorced from real cars because America doesn't make real cars anymore just keeps making the series more and more artificial and hollow, to the point where bringing in fancy expensive European sportscars would be less of an embarrassment than this shit >>729301304. Especially since the two cars American companies still make, the Corvette and the Mustang, have been turned into fancy sportscars (they're literally GT3 homologated).

The only irritating part is having to take the boat to the town and driving to Fleetaris with the tractor for the first 2-3 hours of the game, after that you should be able to get the Satsuma up and running in somewhat good condition and you'll start drowning in money.
The needs are an absolute non-issue.
If there were no life sim aspects to the game, there wouldn't be anything pushing you towards building and driving the Satsuma.

Its 2025 and Forza is still the literal only racing game series to not have cars feel like just dogshit metal boxes without any traction to the road. Even sim games spend 2000000000000 dollars designing simulations of tyres only to make the car still literally fucking float along the ground without any feel that you're in an actual vehicle. Forza is the only series that has managed to make a driving model that is approachable, relatively down the earth and also provide an insane amount of tactile feel over the car, and its why its the only racing game franchise the industry gives a crap about on a large scale.

>>
>>729317021
Give me one clip of any other simulator or simcade or arcade racing game where your car has actual visual and felt feedback on stuff like weight transfer, proper body roll, and acceleration causing actual shifts in car stance.
All the sims literally do not have any visual animations for the car doing any of these things despite simulating them on a purely math level, and the only arcade game where I've seen it even portrayed a bit is NFS since 2015 and Motorfest, but both of those handle like garbage so its all for naught.
FH and Motorsport are the only games where it actually feels like you're in a thing moving on wheels, and not in a floating box attached to some math equations.

The only servers worth driving in are ones like Wreckfest 1's Poopsock Shitshow where everybody agrees "there are no rules." People driving backwards in trucks and busses, creating barriers, dudes in lawnmowers with 300cc engines tryharding, everybody slaughtering one another.

>accurate sounds from INSIDE the fucking real race cars
I don't care, sound engineering is about making something sound both authentic and badass. FH sounds are that mix, GT sounds are just incredibly low fidelity muffled engine noises without any power.
>>729318678
>yeah because you have driven any of these race cars have you massive forza faggot?
No, but I have driven some of the road cars I tried in GT7. A lancer does not need to go at 10km just to take a 60 degree turn.
>>729318678
>from the faggot playing horizon
Yeah, Horizon has great break physics that are easy to pick up while still making you judge brake distances and angles properly and throttle exits have to be controlled to not spin out.

>Forza fans don't buy the new game when it sucks
It´s like not everyone is a drone. Btw, one of the problems FM8 had was that they tried to make it a live service (besides less cars, less circuits, no carreer mode...)
>>
codemaster rally games are not that good
for some stupid reason the group b cars are always the fastest cars in these games
i am glad they lost the wrc license
>>
>>729317925
>nothing like the group B insanity
Group B died in rally almost 40 years ago. Stop pretending to be nostalgic for something that died before your parents were alive.

yeah but the busses get just as fucking grating at times. some tracks i genuinely like racing on. busses were better when they were class C

it's like two sides of the same coin: the clean racing spergs, and the bus spergs. there are some players i have never seen use anything but a bus for YEARS
theres a couple no rules german servers that are playable that you can race on without 16/24 people jacking each other off in busses
i miss BC bangers from the Beta :(

go fuck yourself you spastic zoomer, where did i say "they should bring it back?" the cars they built were cool. outdated as hell now and dumb as hell at the time but cool nonetheless
i like group A era better personally
>>
>>729319117
>for some stupid reason the group b cars are always the fastest cars in these games
>for some stupid reason
that stupid reason being that they just are that stupid fast, if you put any other class of cars on the completely same stages as the group b cars, the group b cars would still hold their records most of the time.
this comparison isn't possible however since most of those stages have drastically changed during the years.

it really bugs me how stage 4 and 5 cars are cucked out of the unique performance upgrade from stage 3

Slave morality. You have no talent, so you cope by pretending losing is actually fun. Arcade racer fans really are pathetic.

group B and group A cars competed on similar rally stages, and guess what?
group A cars became faster than group B cars within a few years
I've attended rally festivals and R5 cars are faster than any group B car
>>
>>729320194
similar doesn't mean same, if you had the chance to put them head to head on the exact same stages the group b cars drove on the group b cars would hold their records
>>
>>729320154
But then we both end up crashing or going really slow through the corner and some other guy zooms past us. There's no point.

the stages are different, are you incapable of comprehending what you read
>>
>>729320516
this but unironically
>>
>>729320604
The issue was finding the stage times.

From what I was able to dig up, 1985 with the Audi Quattro E2 (still driven by Mikkola) is 11 minutes 35s. That's still a 28 seconds difference (6.6 km/h difference on average), keeping in mind that the 2017 cars are brand new and therefore probably not as fast as they can be.

Other stats I've found show that Group-B stage speeds have been steadily beaten every year since at least 2002 on rally Finland. So it's fair to assume that Group-A cars have been faster than group-B cars since at least the late 90s.
>>
>>729320516
Fucking kek.
>>
>>729320873
We can even use the stage of Ouninpohja as a benchmark, as it's the "historic" Finnish stage and is pretty much the same now as it was in the 80s. In 1983 Hannu Mikkola in his Audi Quattro S1 did an 11:56 time, while this year Jari-Matti Latvala did a 10:56.9 in the Yaris WRC. That's a full minute over 24.38km.

THEY ARE NOT THE SAME STAGES
the stages have changed since the group b days, usually they are in far better condition than back then
you cannot compare the old stage times with newer stage times

Ouninpohja has barely changed in all these years
deal with it
modern wrc cars are faster than group b cars

i don't care about how i am coming off, these people are incapable of comprehending the fact that you cannot compare the same stages at different points of time, it's like comparing the times of two different stages on two different sides of the world
>>729321279
it has changed drastically, it's shorter (it was longer as well at one point and was cut into two parts at one point), sure there are more chicanes as well but modern cars are tuned for those, the road surface is harder and more consistent and sometimes it's driven in reverse
>>
>>729317226
