Will Valves new headset finally take VR into the mainstream?

We need more VR hentai games
>>
Probably not. There's no way it'll not cost more than the previous which was already a steep entry

how does gaben have such a high IQ with that neanderthal skull?

>will valve hardware....mainstream
No

Fucking facebook couldnt and the sold their headset at 1/4th the price of valve prices.

Friendly reminder that valve hardware is always over expensive, but just like apple fags, valve fags buy into it because they are stuck in their ecosystem

Close, but not quite right. Delete the thread and try again, OP.

Disgusting autist.
>>
Wait, VR is still a thing?
I thought the VR meme died
>>
no it is for enthusiasts by its nature

the best we can hope for is more games that add VR support or design an extra VR mode for 2D game. building the whole game around waggle slop is retarded. it's not even immersive to waggle your hands around since nothing can push back against you.

before making VR hentai games they should start making good hentai games on steam to begin with and also stop the gay karen censorship there
>>
>>729290840
Ram prices have fucked VR for another 5 years atleast. Just go back to sleep till 2030.
>>
>>729290840
VR doesn't have something like the HDMI forum backing it, which benefited from DRM and constant royalties and could therefor afford to bribe devs to neglect displays that weren't flat panels.
>>729291245
Flat panels are about to be for enthusiasts by nature, who else is going to keep around a huge, overpriced power hungry TV just for muh 4k HDR OLED?
VR headsets are already strictly better as displays than anything released before the 2010s and most of the reason for how slow it is going is because the only serious offerings are coming from Meta (slow due to shit company) and Valve (slow due to Valve time).
>>729290889
Their previous offering had lighthouses with moving parts, this is arguably simpler.
>>
>>729291486
VR is still a gimmick anyways. it's only good for stimulators.
>>
>>729292331
Dpads and dual analog are worse gimmicks that people still use nonetheless. Genuinely not even good at the thing they claim to be good at and only even remotely acceptable on handheld devices with screens that can't be placed in your lap and therefor need better button economy to cope with you being down 4 fingers.
The mass acceptance of VR is a sword of Damocles hanging over the head of the HDMI forum, which is why they are pumping so much money into shilling against VR.
>>
>>729290840
Will only happen when Nintendo does it.
And they're abandoning vidya for movies slowly but surely
>>
>>729292256
I'm still waiting on my bsb2 so hopefully it makes me pog
but in terms of ppd it's still more like a 720p monitor. of course I could make the virtual monitor really big to be like 1440p, but I think that would be too big to be comfy compared to a real monitor
>>
>>729292429
>gimmick
>most widely adapted standard for decades
>>
vr will not work as long as headsets are more cumbersome to wear than eyeglasses
>>
>>729292513
I think it works if you just want 1080p on a virtual display that is decently big.
It has time to get better, but it is basically functional.
>>729292550
Dpad got widely adapted, because it was cheap to put on handhelds and pack-in controllers. Put 4 people and their chosen controllers in a room and they will all agree that the dpad on every single one of them is shit. It is a gimmick compared to just proper separated buttons, especially now that most console controller using it mainly focus on 3D.
Dual analog just got streamlined by Xinput and generic engines, but it's not a good control scheme and requires far too much assistance and simplification to be worth it.
They're more of a gimmick than VR, which has been in use longer than either of them.
>>729292629
Eyeglasses are more cumbersome to wear than VR, they're a bad form factor that people are gaslit into liking, because they see them worn a lot.
>>
>>729290840
>finally take VR into the mainstream?
It will never support Youtube VR in 8K (only served to android)
>>
>>729293680
>Eyeglasses are more cumbersome to wear than VR, they're a bad form factor that people are gaslit into liking, because they see them worn a lot
I've worn glasses my whole life and have a VR headset. This is the most retarded thing I've every read and I hope you don't wake up in the morning
>>
>>729293680
eyeglasses are light weight and have airflow
>>
>>729294063
>>729294164
Eyeglasses put strain on the nose bridge/ears and cause friction.
They're not comfy, they just pack down flat and you eventually filter out the mild discomfort due to attenuation.
Adding any weight adds more strain and makes them move more, which causes more friction, so even if they magically became an overall good form factor for holding lenses in front of your eyes, they would still suck once you add anything else.
>>
>>729294343
nobody is saying they are comfy. they are however wearable for long periods over someones entire life and pretty much the best we can do for holding lenses in front of our eyes.
so if a vr headset just use tiny screens the size and weight of glasses lenses you would be able to use it around the clock all day with out issue, unlike current vr headsets. make it capable of having different levels of opacity and you could even use it as a hud for whatever augmented reality memes people come up with.
its gotta be this wearable for vr to take off
>>
>>729292256
>who else is going to keep around a huge, overpriced power hungry TV just for muh 4k HDR OLED?
People with family and friends
>>
>>729292331
When you get older you realise the only fun things left are gimmicks. I'd rather spend 500 bucks on a racing wheel to play 3 games than buy a console and play 100 games that are sequels to shit I already played 50 times.
>>
>>729294559
>pretty much the best we can do for holding lenses in front of our eyes.
There already better solutions, they just don't pack down as well and using them would require not using them as a socialization or marketing prop.
Current headsets with aftermarket headstraps are already more wearable long-term than glasses.
>>729294750
Entertainment is increasingly individualized and on-demand and splitscreen gaming is neglected in favor of always-online that lets the company serve you ads and forces you to buy more copies. The general populace are not going to be sentient enough to share entertainment in any way other than by huddling around a phone, because their attention span will drive them to use their phone while using a TV anyway, so they are de facto not sharing entertainment and are socially isolating instead.
>>
>>729290840
>will a headset that's guaranteed to cost twice as much as its main competitor's make VR mainsteam
No. Valve screwed over the PC VR fanbase by cancelling its support of the lighthouse ecosystem to fruitlessly compete against Meta for the mobileslop market.
>>
probably not, valve isn't mainstream itself. Its a lot bigger than it used to be, but you'll need apple making AR mainstream to gain normie approval. Then apple will need to make a VR set, and VR will be normalized.
>>
>>729295637
>There already better solutions,
such as?
>>
>>729290840
VR needs to come bundeled with a hotas and we need competant devs making Battletech and flight sims for it. Dancing around a room blind like a retard was always doomed to fail. Sitting in a cockpit is the best vr experience.
>>
>>729290840
It's a shit headset. It's just a Quest but with Steam OS. VR will become mainstream when
>it's convenient and comfortable to use
>much smaller
>comes in a non-shitty resolution i.e. 8k
>comes with oled or microled panels
>>
>>729290958
his brain isn't located in the head
>>
>>729290840
No.
It's not a matter of who does it, VR is just a silly gimmick and it'll never take off.
>>
>>729290840
You have the choice between
>lordose/kyphose simulator due to fucked center of gravity
and
>african tribal body modification due the straps clamping down on your head
It's just aw bad as headsets with aluminum frame.
>>
>>729298853
>it'll never take off.
not until retarded devs learn how not to make movie cutscene games
>>
>>729298218
>VR will become mainstream when
I want back to the non-mainstream internet days
>>
Any good VRMMO games similar to those Isekai Manga yet?
>>
>>729290840
I believe Valve is so out of touch with the VR Market that they'll price the Frame at 899 so they can go "Hey look it's cheaper than the Index just like we said!" Despite being the only other company that can make and sell hardware at a loss comfortably since they are making billions from sales on steam, the steam market, and all of the lootboxes they have in TF2 + CS2
>>
>>729290840
I don’t want VR to be mainstream. I want to comfortably lie in any position and play video-games without something heavy and unbreathable stuck to my head and requiring me to move my head and arms just to do something more easily achievable with a controller.
>>
>>729290840
I think the AiO idea is the right move. Nobody wants cables around. Batteries are still a problem in 2026 tho

I just saw that my local library started lending out meta quest 3s. Might be a good opportunity to try out some VR, I only ever played a bit over at a friends house. If I end up liking I might pick up a steam frame or similar.
Anyway what should I try? Also will I need some dummy facebook account or something to use it?
>>
>>729290840
>battery only lasts 2 hours
>can't be used wired
not good enough for my 24-hour vam goonsessions
>>
>>729290961
Valve has like 3 hardware items you blatant faggot
>>
VR is dead
the porn has peaked in 2021 and its been downhill since then
the actresses get uglier every year because the hot ones all do onlyfans instead
the japs are the only ones making good content but for some reason they insist on filming on dogshit cameras
>>
>>729290840
In what way is it an improvement over previous VR headsets? If it's just some minor improvement no one can notice then it will remain a niche underdeveloped platform.

3s lenses are shit, I feel sorry for anyones first experience being with fresnel lenses instead of superior quest 3 pancake lenses.
>>
>>729304494
Linux headset, so no need to jump through hoops with Android slop like on the Quest 3 that will always fight you on everything and can't be used as a PC.
More evolution on the controller instead of just the CV1 controller again.
Anything more will have to likely wait to see what the aftermarket support is like and if they cater to more enthusiast grade development.

>We need more VR hentai games
>turning 2D women 3D
Fuck off normie.
Why don't you just go outside if you want 3D women?
>>
>>729290840
>VR into the mainstream
The Quest 2 already did that, you have VR headsets in schools now. Just because not everyone owns one doesn't mean it's not mainstream.
>>
>>729305284
the problem with VR is not the software
>>
I need to get another job aaaaagh, I want the Deckard now
>>
>>729305956
Yeah, it's fat lazy gamers who get out of breath and start puking at the IDEA of standing up to game
>>
>>729305956
Most of the problems with VR are software.
>>
>>729306912
It could also just be lack of space for it. You can't play VR living in some small appartement.
>>
>>729308276
Most games can be played seated and you just need space of your arms length around it. You don’t need a lot of space playing standing either
>>
>>729308276
For seated VR you don't need more than any flat game.
Roomscale VR will depend on your room layout, but it is doable in AVERAGE MALE LIVING SPACE in a small apartment, as long as you don't have big furniture in the middle of the room.
The "live, laugh love" clutter enjoyers will not have a good time though.
>>
>>729305956
the problem is facebook
>>
Everyone who can afford it, isn't fat, doesn't hate life and has enough space to play absolutely loves VR

Unfortunately that's a pretty small group of people

This is my VR room. The mat in the middle is so I know where the middle is and can easily return to it.

It's also my (cardio) gym. Those games like Pistol Whip where you have to jump around and crouch a lot really work up a sweat after a few hours. I know, technically in those games where you have to dodge stuff, it's sufficient to just move your head, but it's a lot more fun to move your whole body. Feels better
>>
>>729296726
are you me?
i cant believe im reading a post about VR that isnt retarded
>>
>>729310605
i did and now my headset is fuckin hosed. just falling apart literally in every way
its an index i got like 5 or 6 years ago
too broke to get another but i would like to get a new one even if the only game i could play was fucking walkabout minigolf. that, race sims and flight sims are the best by far. need a much lighter headset for golf though because looking down with 2 pounds hanging off the front of my head for an hour or two is guaranteed to fuck up my neck bad

He is retarded though, there is more to vr than flight sims, I've been using it weekly for 3 years now and the closest I've been to a cockpit game is forefront helis, well and technically underdogs but that doesn't really count
>>

Did you beat the shit out of it or what
