Doomguy is more fun than le doomslayer. Nu doom is too edgy imo.

Nu Doom isn't really edgy, only 2016 took that route and it was a good aesthetic. Eternal went the cartoon route and Dark Ages was basically dark fantasy for whatever reason.

Doom had the perfect balance of being creepy scary for the graphics at the time with the weird textures, blood, atmosphere, but also with some fun interlude text to set up story between episodes that wasn't too serious. Doom 64 was the most dark and scary and grim.

2016 had a good balance here with dark elements and designs but also a bit of goofy shit like Doomguy punching away the monitor at the start, destroying argent, collecting figurines and hidden rooms.

Old Doom being "scary" is a newfag myth.

They forgot the main essence of the Doom games and turned it into some Marvel ass cinematics. Doom 2016 was good because it kept things minimal and focused on kicking cyberdemons ass unlike its successor.

They're the same guy and all of the nudoom games treat doomguy pretty well, it's just the stuff surrounding him that's sometimes weak. id always got the assignment that doomguy is a nearly silent weirdo driven to a crazed vendetta against demons and there's not much more to him

Doom Eternal has the best gameplay of any shooter I've ever played so I like it

Absolutely. Doomguy had this primal, no-nonsense energy - just a pissed-off dude with a shotgun and a bad day. That original vibe was pure distilled testosterone; no lore dumps, no cutscenes, just rip and tear until the music stops. Nu-Doom kinda overcooked it with the lore and divinity stuff. The Slayer being this mythical deity of vengeance or whatever just made him feel less grounded compared to Doomguy, who's more like an unstoppable force of stubborn rage with a love for shotguns. Less "chosen one," more "I tripped and fell into hell and now everyone's gonna pay."

My first Doom was 64 and it was scary as shit as a kid.

Yeah, the god machine shit was what really fucked it all up.

Doomguy was just a really tough and competent marine aided by an arsenal of weapons and power ups from the UAC. There were other marines in hell too here and there who made it but not as far as him.

Then when he dies he just winds up in hell and keeps killing, so decides to stay in hell and keep killing demons to keep them from Earth and killing any more bunnies.

because you were a kid

the cool thing about doomguy to me was that he was just a pissed off guy with nothing to lose and too angry to die. the whole chosen one that is feared by the ancients is cringe as fuck.
