How is this became the only competent game engine for indie developers?
>>
>>729296802
Did nobody remember the drama years ago? Why would anybody use this shit?
>>
Just use Godot like every sane indie dev
>>
>>729297526
There are actually more issues with the game engine. They'll work on an upcoming feature and then deprecate it. And then they'll fuck you the ass. No one should ever be using Unity nowadays.
>>
>>729296802
c# is piss easy to learn and i'm pretty sure it has some sort of visual coding thing like unreal
no one but autists dare use shit gz/uzdoom or whatever to make their shitty fps games
>>
>>729297526
turns out there's nothing better out there
>>
>>729297674
And then quickly lose that sanity, like every indie dev that uses it.
>>
>>729296802
you don't need a game engine, just make a game
>>
>watch competent dev stream
>"Oh damn, I need [thing]"
>opens a new script
>after writing dozens of lines and hooking up a few game objects [thing] exists
>took less than half an hour
Fuck, how do I get to this level
I cant even make an interactable button and door without resorting to fucking googling it
What am I missing

its the power of unity chan
>>
>>729297526
Because Unreal is full of bloat and focused on the workflows of projects with 100+ devs and Godot isn't ready yet

It's the only one that I like.

Just learn how to Google and implement really fast, rinse and repeat a ton of times, and at some point you'll be able to make a controllable marble rolling through a maze in an hour without looking anything up.
>>
>>729297526
what's the alternative if you want c#?
mono?
>>
>>729298769
experience
i'm a shitty programmer, i barely know C, but i know that with enough practice, you just KNOW what shit to do to get shit done
>>
>>729298835
Unity-chan left us for the gacha mines and her spirit possesses asset flips now. All that's left is her ghost whispering “please buy more Pro licenses.”
>>
>>729297526
If you have most of your framework and workflow based on Unity then you really don't have much of a choice.

Beef + SDL3

You're right, I dont think I spend enough time in code. Too much theory. Not enough write. Stop think. Do write.
Thanks chums, I'll get to it.
>>
>>729298769
keep coding, you'll eventually gain the ability to make anything you want (unoptimally because doing optimal shit requires real knowledge)
>>
>>729297526
>guy who tried to push that decision fired and publicly roasted, company walks it back, gives better conditions than before and apologizes
>>
>>729297674
Godot games are open source, no serious person writing novel code would use it and just give away their entire game as a template for indians to assetflip into their own games.

>b-buh they implemented encryption now!
completely meaningless because the key is stored in the game's exe.

godotdeconp + keydot.
>>
>>729297526
No, I still remember it, and I still remember that Unity get bloated every updates.
But also other engines are much worse somehow, and working with frameworks gave me cancer for a ton of reasons, so I'm sticking to Unity 2019 for now.
Will probably go back to MonoGames or LibGDX later tho, but I want to make a few more games first.
>>
>>729297526
Unity is like steam.
Its flawed and you can point to tons of issues.
But ultimately it offers the best product out of all other options.
>>
>>729302253
you got it anon, if it's any consolation, most of my coding nowadays is """""vibe""""" coding and just reviewing what the AI writes
if it's not any consolation then I'm sorry, that's just the way programming works now
>>
>>729297526
It was a drama that more or less only affected corporations or mega hits. For small devs the drama was even an outright benefit since it let to them dropping the last few vestiges of the Unity Pro shit like the forced splash screen.

>>729303128
You can make commercial proprietary games with Godot. Unless you mean to say you can inspect the source code, in which case the same can be said about pretty much every Unity game as well.
>>
>>729297526
it was aimed at genshin impact and phone games
everyone overreacted
>>
>>729303357
lol no, learn to code
>>
>>729303128
>my precious code!
>don't look at my precious code in my 2d godot game!

nobody making a godot game should be worried about people "stealing their code"

I hope people rip apart my game, I have secrets in there for them.
>>
>>729299040
Cough cough Dragon Khan cough cough
>>
>>729302412
>gives better conditions than before
Did they?
>>
>>729298953
This whole "Waiting for Godot" gag just isn't worth it anymore.
>>
>>729296802
CHANGE THE PHYSICS FRAME RATE FROM 0.2 TO 0.166666
Several games, RELEASED games, have retarded choppy visuals because no one does this simple fucking step
