I played FFTA and FFTA2 and both are two of my favourite games ever, but I've never played the original.I'm going to do that today but what version should I play for first time?

Neither. Play the PSP version with the Lion War mod. You get the extra content, the slowdown bug fixed, and a translation that's an actual translation instead of the PSX version's N5 nonsense or the PSP version's "I read Shakespeare in high school" nonsense.
