What's the best Disgaea game and what one should a newcomers start with?

Either 1, 4 or 5.1 is the original experience and the most universally agreed to be good by the fanbase. It'll give you a good baseline experience, but is missing aspects that later entries added, some of which are legitimately great additions or helpful design differences, but it's still a good game.If you want the best gameplay experience you can get though, it might be worth considering 4 or 5. Those two have a number of extra features the series built up as it went on (Evilities, cheat shop). A lot of what makes Disgaea special is the variety of ways to build units, and these games have the biggest variety of that while also being available on most modern platforms as a "Complete" version with DLC included and thus, a lot of content overall too.In general you can start where you want with any of the main number titles. If you really like Rozalin's design from 2 for example, play 2. Go with what you're interested in.And merry christmas OP

I was going through the disgaea games in my library months ago, finished disgaea 1, absolutely loved it, fell off halfway thorugh disgaea 2, fell of d3, fell off disgaea 4, and that's where I'm at. It's kinda sad that all those posters saying how good disgaea 1 and how is the best one were right. I really thought they were some gatekeeping fags but nope, they were absolutely right. Just play the first one, finish that one, disgaea 1 is an absolute must play vydia, try the sequels if you feel like it.

>>729307998Yeah, probably my bad, I will try to finish 2 eventually and continue from there. I don't know, disgaea 1 felt so unique to me, the cast is just perfect and it had so much style. I absolutely loved etna and the other characters chapter introduction/previews, also the story and writing was so effortlessly funny while also being surprinsingly heartfelt. Going from that to 2, felt like I was playing a really straightforward rpg with the disgaea gameplay, the cast felt really dull in comparison and the gameplay didn't hook me enough to continue playing it or it subsequent sequels.
does 5 have a lot of problems with windows 11? i haven't bought it yet but i see people bitch about freezes on steam reviews

5 is my favorite, is the newest game before they went 3D, it has a lot of content DLC including all the characters from previous games, the art and music are beautiful and the new characters (most of them are not bad), its a great game all around.
