>>729305627>>729308786>>729309020i recommend games to people based on their taste after talking to them about why they like the games they like. most people i know just recommend what they like. my recommendations land frequently, others recommendations are very scattershot in terms of how they are received. too many retards think their taste is the epitome of quality and try and shape people to their tastes or jump the gun, trying to get people into things right away that it took themselves a long time to get to and/or understand. sometimes i will do this as a joke or as a test to see how people will like things, throwing people in the deep end and watching them flail. recently, i have been "educating" a guy i work with about music (his idea, not me trying to force my taste down his throat). after a few days of mostly normal songs, i came out of left field and got him to listen to tarkus. he did not get it at all. it wasn't until i talked to him after the fact and talked about how lots of JRPG music has been influenced by ELP and some of the roots of prog rock that he started to go "oooh" and then listened to it a couple more times. just recommending what you like because you like it shows an utter disregard for the person you are recommending to and shows you don't actually care about that person at all and just want to enforce your taste on others.

>>729305627I managed to make people enjoy games they weren't remotely aware before, such as Earth Defense Force, Crow Country, Kunitsu-Gami, etc. which i would consider relatively "safe" choices as far as my hardcore weeb tastes go. Bringing out my Switch so they could try out the games in question also helps them in getting a proper idea of whatever I'm recommending.

I also have a reputation in my IRL circle to play a lot of different games but highly value EDF as my favorite franchise.
