The chinkfication of league, constant rework and removal of champions, maps, skins and lore... The increase of wholeness and LGTB and Chinese crap, it suffered a "ship of Theseus" situation where the game I started playing was no longer the game it is now.

I really liked league, I liked the more and I liked reading the forums and the journal of justice, I really liked the universe and the theories and the potential, I was hoping for the MMORPG and runeterra, but they decided to remove the soul and fire all the based devs and introduce mowen and more undesirables into the company (this is happening in most of gaming).

I started falling out when they sacked the entirety of the Institute of War and all their lore up until that point and then sat on their hands for years regarding it
Then it was a string of disappointing champ releases
Zoe was released and I didn't care much for her but whatever that's just one
Then Kai'Sa was an enormous letdown given how we were finally going to see Kassadin's void corrupted daughter who just turned out to be a woman in a jumpsuit
Pyke was amazing though
Then Neeko happened and I don't even think anything about her given how little impact she had on me

a friend in highschool tried to get me into it, i played like two matches so obviously i was a shitter, and he kept nagging me to do certain stuff to win the matches, so i said fuck that and uninstalled that shit.
then a decade later another friend convinced me to get into heroes of the storm, this one didn't bitched about how i should play it, and i think we won some matches but deep down i didn't feel it either so i tapped out for the genre, especially since this one is considered much better than lol, and if it didn't grab me i bet nothing else will

Combination of a couple reasons:

Fell off ages ago, but would go back to play TFT or casual games with friends - especially during those lull periods where there isn't anything new out and my backlog is empty. But then they added Vanguard because they had a security breach which exposed all the holes in their previous anti-cheat.

I'd probably still play it casually if it was only active when the game itself was being played but nah, those fuckers want it always on. I was excited for the MMO, but that shit is either dead in the water or will require Vanguard so functionally dead on arrival.

Damn shame too, yordles are trapped in that pile of shit and DotA 2, while an okay game, is pretty garbage too and doesn't even have anything remotely interesting outside of it's gameplay. Can't even scratch the same itch.

When I completely outplayed some riven player for about 30 seconds straight in allied towers with a better scored lulu, timing all my 7 skills properly not missing a beat, but i lost in 2 seconds after riven player pressed dash in my general direction for the 3rd/4th time and managed to get near enough to press stun in my gemeral direction and R in my general direction.

You get to play solo with a mini base against 5 others. You get to play as the normal heroes, but they adjusted them so they get 4 new mechanics per hero that you can pick from. For example, puck can put up walls that bounce her orb. It's really well done. But you can get constant upgrades by farming camps, killing players or destroying their base. So everyone ends up very powerful, and there's duels every few minutes, and a bounty system for killing the top player and roaming neutral camps that you can steal from other players for extra upgrades.
It's basically an entire new map/mode.

I've started again though because my girlfriend wanted to play with me and honestly it's a lot more fun now that I don't actually care about ranked tryharding.

I've played since the days of very late beta until about 2012 when I got angry at the game, returned for 2020-2022 or so and left because of vanguard.

I honestly have a weird perspective on a lot of it. For instance people complain about reworks I think most of them were ok. Warwick for instance, who I've played a lot in old league was a gigantic improvement gameplay wise(balance wise he's just bad jungler and cheesy top). I've even seen someone complaining about Poppy itt I dunno if that guy tried to play her much in her old guise. At one point they've just increased her mana costs so hard she became the ultimate bot. In lane you could do like 2 Qs(back then aa empowerment) and you're oom, late game you used your ultimate on a tank and nuked carries while invulnerable but your team had to play 4v5 for 40 minutes for that to happen, assuming you didn't feed a much more capable laner. Some reworks were meh(liked Sejuani back in the days, dunno why the current one is boring, may be change of taste), some replaced shit with shit(Yorick), some were allegedly extremely unbalanced early on(Akali was allegedly just retarded, didn't play back then) and so on.
Of the "new" champions(post 2012 for me) I did like Kled, Lissandra and Taliyah quite a bit.

So for me the game is alright, it's the same rage inducing thing you love and hate but I'm not installing kernel level anticheat for that.

It's not about the gameplay only, it's also about the more and aesthetics. Some champions were deleted and replaced with another one with the same name. Look at skarner or galio. Some champions had their lore and kit changed like 4 times.

I can pick a game from 30 years ago and it's still the same. League isn't the same even after 1 year.
