>fall asleep in front of pc
>steam updates a dozen games and eliminates all the free disk space I had freed up
>not only were a lot of games I didn't wish to update, updated
>but I also can't easily regain the disk space I lost since I can't just uninstall the updates and now have to choose between uninstalling the games in their entirety or just live with the lost disk space
Why the fuck do people view Steam's abhorrent management on game updates, to be in any way acceptable?
Steam can even refuse to boot up a game whatsoever unless you go fucking offline, unless you update. Why is that acceptable?
And the inability to revert back to older versions of games. How is that ok?

Steam fucking sucks. Why is there no option to simply tell Steam to NOT update?

there is retard

Turn off auto update. Do you not even glance at the settings in programs you frequent?
>>
>>729306850
Name one game where an update increased the space used by any more than a nominal amount.
You're also clearly too stupid to just roll back the game, as you don't know there's a way to within the console.
Maybe you're just a third world liar who got VAC banned in 2023 and you're still seething about it.

there is but since you are the kind of retard that would fall asleep in front of their PC i'm not surprised you didn't know about it

Blame the developer for this. Steam has this functionality built in.

No there isn't. Scheduling a preferred time is NOT the same fucking thing as simply telling Steam you do NOT wish to update.

That's still updating the game. There is no option to simply ignore the updates altogether.

You can't play if you don't update

still have to update or just go offline mode on steam

That shouldn't be necessary.

Steam's main sole function was to keep your games up to date. And you're surprised Steam updated your games.
Zoom zooms are raped in the brain.
>>
>>729307519
I played downgraded Mafia 3 just fine
didn't even have to go into offline mode

then again, your whole triade is a fabbrication so

Only select few devs allow you to downgrade the games. And it's not an option that's available by default.

Please go easy on OP it took all of his brain power to think up this shitpost. It's Christmas guys let's be a bit more forgiving today.

Steam does have a system for reverting back to prior versions. It’s up to the developer to use it. That stops the program from automatically updating if you use it. If the dev hasn’t made those available, then Steam auto updates.
>>
>>729308237
I think it's on by default, and the depots do incremental updating with versioning.
>>
>>729306850
Why can I NOT select games to "never update"?

Google Play Store let's me do that and I bet Apple as well. Why can't Steam?

I am. Tell me how
>>
Reminds me of how ARK used to update its DLCs all the time (this was a VERY long time ago), and since they weren't technically tracked as part of the game disabling game updates did not stop multi-GB DLC updates from rolling through

Its just a guerilla marketing shill ragging on Steam, to direct people to Epic. There's already several terrible pro-Epic shill posts this morning.

why, did they patch out/censor some content or something
>>

You can do that depending on the game, so this is mostly a developer issue.
>>
Just get an SSD and start putting your games on there. Games are too big now to fit all of them on your computer's internal memory.

You can do it with the console for most other games, unless they specifically delete old versions from the depot.

Inb4 you paste third world games and shit from 20 years ago. Those are also available on Steam.
>>
>>729306850
>Why the fuck do people view Steam's abhorrent management on game updates, to be in any way acceptable?
Because that issue alone mainly applies to a small subsection of people who want to play a specific version of a game, as well as your very specific scenario where an update is enough to take an important portion of your hard drive, while having several games installed is fine and uninstalling/reinstalling is highly bothersome. The first being largely connected to the modding community where some mods, usually outdated but popular, may require a specific version of a game. But that is still ultimately a very small portion of games as well as a small portion of the people who play them.
For short, it's convenience for the average user who don't want to manually check for updates and the notion an update is actually preferred rather than detrimental. Still, convenience is suddenly highly inconvenient when it doesn't work like you want it to.
>>
>>729307823
>>729308527
But paying more money doesn't give you the option to downgrade. You'll have to pirate your games for that.
>>
>>729309345
>I've done it
>You're also clearly too stupid to just roll back the game,
Rollbacks only work when the devs have made it an option though.
Why are you acting as if it's some broad, standard option that's simply a part of Steam?
>>
OP has been left utterly gaped by his own thread. Embarrassing.
>>
>>729311692
It's opt-out with the console method. They only have to opt in to the beta branch method.

you can directly tell steam to not auto update games. I had to do it for PoE when I still had an HDD and updating the game while running another game would freeze my computer
