all they need to do is not drive away the modding scene because that's the community that is getting people to play the game for hundreds/thousands of hours
>>
>>729324463
Unachievable without proc-gen and Starfield is proof that people prefer hand-crafted content. Fuck, even with Skyrim you already had heated discussions about the necessity of radiant quests. Bethesda needs to bite the bullet and do it the hard way again.
>>
>>729324463
They need an engine that doesn’t shit itself around the 80 hour mark first.
>>
>>729324927
This. Their games are otherwise several dozen hours worth of fun before dropping.
>>
>>729324463
No, that's the kind of game moders make from your games.
>>
>>729324463
I'd rather play a 60 hour game 10 times than do radiant quests for 600 hours.
>>
>>729324463
Sure hope it's not Starfield 2.0 where it's something stupid like a vault-tech technician from the main vault tasked to travel around the US in your not-highwayman with over 100 vaults in proc-gen'd areas.
>>
>>729324463
>up to 600hrs
1 hour is "up to 600hrs"
How about a game that you can play for at least 600hrs?

I never got the point of these games. I remember everyone raving about Skyrim and I looked at it for 5 minutes and thought wow what a garbage. Same for Fallout 76 and Starfield. The gameplay always looked abysmal and jank, the writing horrible and the visuals generic. I like fantasy, I like sci-fi and post-apoc but not from Bethesda.

I suspect they want to shake the stigma that modders will fix their game / extend their playtime, they want to be able to claim that success themselves. Modders improving your game is a success that they can't control or own, it probably irks the higher-ups a lot and is the reason we got shit like paid mods.

Lol
That's so bad
Why did they say up to
>>
>>729324463
300 hours in skyrim even using mod is pretty insufferable
100 hours is the perfect amount of time to see all content in an rpg

We make a 60 hour game and re-release it 10 times over the course of 20 years.
It just works.

Almost every Bethesda game is worthy of a replay a good five or six times, not because the game is any different but the theme park can be enjoyed in different ways.
However once you've made enough of your own fun at the park, its time to play with new toys unless somebody adds new attractions.
Most of their games have this magical sense of freedom, once you leave the tutorial you're basically on your own unless you want to follow the quest markers.
I can entirely ignore Alduin, the Oblivion Crisis, Dagoth and the issues plaguing the wastelands and just go on adventures that suit me.

The burden of Starfield isn't near as bad once you can start pretending its Star Wars.

>design director
Is this the same guy who decided on the abomination assault rifle cause he apparently wanted a big looking gun for power armor? And the pipe weapons, and the synth armor and probably a bunch of other shit I'm forgetting now because I modded them out. Though I guess there was a lot of decent designs too so I guess he just has MPD or someone was smart enough to ignore him.

New Vegas doesn't have 600 hours of gameplay and its better than any Fallout by Bethesda.
Random quests do not make a great RPG of any kind.
>>
>>729324463
>600 hours
>on a engine that accumulates broken scripts every 5 minutes until the savefiles become unplayable
>>
>>729324463
Oh cool, it's going to be 99% proc-gen and radiant quests.
>>

If you want a bulky gun for power armour the Brotherhood provides plenty of laser weapons, which are appropriately blocky and noticeable.
I just used shotguns anyhow because they managed to make automatic weapons feel extremely weak.
I'll never forgive the travesty of melee, what the fuck is that parry system?

I'm a basic bitch so I usually stick with my single shot combat rifle, or some similar modded weapon. Or explosives.
But that was their reason for the assault rifle existing.
>>
>>729324927
the only modding they want to support is paid mods
>>
>>729324463
didn't they say the exact same thing for starfield?
>>
>>729328793
Yes, or at least what they wanted with their new game plus system. Expect more failure for FO5 and TES6.
>>
>>729324463
As the price of video games continues to increase so too should the number of play hours, to maintain/improve their price per hour value. 600 hours is a fairly small amount of time to invest in a video game, especially ones that have as much care and skill put into them as Bethesda games.
>>
>>729326985
I doubt it. It's essentially a harmless stigma and one they can depend on so long as their games don't have anything catastrophically wrong with them like with Starfield. Fallout 5 can be the exact same as Fallout 4 and people and modders will still get 600: hours of it because that's just the kind of fanbase they're cultivated too. Paid mods are them simply trying to make more money without doing any work rather than an act of jealousy.
>>
>>729324927
we call them the "non-contracted low cost DLC labour force" now.
>>
>>729326602
to be completely honest, it literally isnt

the majority of people who play the games do so unmodded, either because they dont understand how to, or because they cant/couldnt

the x360/PS3 sales of skyrim likely dwarfed the PC sales during the early period of its life, and many people (me included) just played and replayed the vanilla game.

the worlds are fucking insanely gigantic, and all of it is handcrafted.
>NPC quests with thought put into them, even if not amazingly high quality are still enjoyable and immersive
>dungeons with individual quirks and set pieces, especially quest involved ones/guild ones
>building out a character with high level equipment and lots of special effects/perks

these are hundreds of hours alone without mods
mods put these games at like, thousands of hours.

with that being said, the quality has been dropping the longer they've been making games, starfield was such a huge stinker that most people forget how magical skyrim was on launch
