>>729337596Yeah, the cooldown management really didn't end up interesting and while there were glimmers of it being cool to use moves with different ranges to reposition, they really should've just bit the bullet on letting you control the pokemon directly or done some weird Astral Chain stuff rather than what ended up happening. As an experiment I'll definitely take it though, even if the result ended up worse than the strong/swift style turn-order management of Arceus. If nothing else it was fun being able to start a 4v1 against a bunch of wild pokemon then use Surf to cleave through all of them, especially since the hitbox was bigger if your pokemon was an Alpha. Another aspect that I think really harmed the combat was that basically all the terrain was flat ground, and you didn't have enough control over attacks to really try to take advantage of height, slopes, or cover. I'm not saying they should try to code Chikorita using Vine Whip to swing around a light pole and transition into Body Slam in midair, but there's so much room to try and experiment if they loosened the reins even a little.
