People calling 2Fort shit are simpletons who do not understand what 2Fort did for Tf2 as a game.
2Fort is one of most unique things in existence, as its intended function (a ctf map where teams are meant to try and capture the intel) was realized so incredibly poorly, it created this social fuck-around playground where nothing matters at all, inspiring thousand of videos and memes about itself because of it, and its no exaggeration to say that the vast majority of people who have ever played Tf2, only ever started, or continued to, because of 2Fort. It is the most important map in the game.

Granary: Great but if you hate 5cp it won't do anything for you.
Gravel Pit: heavily skewed to Blu's favor thanks to the feature creep.
Dustbowl: Good map if you turn off your brain and enjoy spamming chokepoints
2fort: Probably in the minority here but I always found this map boring.

I had TF2 on every platform when it released and each one had their own charms.
The only maps anyone played on console was 2fort pretty much and the playerbase was pretty small but it was still a lot of fun.
It was a really good time capsule to the glory days of TF2, glad they never got patched.

Hydro was just a worse 5CP map that you learned all the permutations of relatively quickly, and the fact that it switched from round to round just made it more tedious. It also had some pretty serious concessions made in its design that made it objectively worse than a normal map. So in the end, it didn't provide any novelty, you knew you could get a configuration that would just waste your time, and the actual map was just objectively not as well designed as some of the other maps. Which is why everyone forgot about it and no other official TC maps got made.

The middle point of Granary is almost perfect, but everything outside of that is either a boring chokepoint or a boring wide open space, neither offers interesting map geometry to use to your advantage.

Gravel Pit is way too spread out. It feels like multiple completely separate maps stitched together. They tried to do something a little Counter-Strike-like by letting the teams choose which point they wanted to start with instead of having a linear progression, but casual players would never agree, and more serious players figured out the metagame really early.

Dustbowl is so good, there are plenty of servers that never run any other map. It has plenty strategic wrinkles that you can't hedge against all at the same time.

2fort is the default fuck around map. Objectively, it's not good. But if you just want to deathmatch or play with gimmick loadouts, no one will care. The fact that it's bad means that it drives away tryhards who actually care about playing the objective. But also means that you can have a server full of people fucking around and one guy trying to play the objective, and the round will still last even though you'd think it'd go uncontested.

Well was the first map to have an environmental hazard. Most of it is pretty well designed even by today's standard.
It's the opposite of 2fort, it inspires adhoc coordination and makes it fun to play the objective.
