Merry Christmas, 1997. Parasite Eve thread btw
many females played this game, along with tomb raider and american's alice. this made them fans
Never played it but I remember the girl is super sexy.
>>729337728Isn't it funny how 25 years ago the few autistic female gamers didn't give a damn about sexy women or fan service? But once the fake gamers started populating the industry it somehow became an acute problem they ought to fight.
We don't have cool games anymore
>>729338000Nobody gave a shit about that before the entire generation learned some ideology-driven study about how the world should work for the better at universities. As that was a pretty calm decade in the first world, they took it as their mission

>>729338531>Kino track that really emphasizes the hustle and bustle of Manhattan.https://youtu.be/dIW0DWXxL1w?si=IsS7PstdZ0h8QJ-eI wish Parasite Eve 2 had us exploring LA and the Mojave in a similar fashion. Going to each landmark and facing against Mitochondrial creatures in once busy locales. All we got though was the mall at the beginning and then we spend the rest of the game in Dry Town. Quite the downgrade in scope.
>>729337728>>729337573>sexyHaving played the game recently I have to say that the game didn't lean on this at all. You wouldn't even remember that Aya is a woman if the nip scientist didn't have a crush on her. It's like the devs forgot to be horny.
>>729339180What about the sleazer in the armory?
>>729339180Most of the sex appeal was mainly seen in the marketing and artwork by Tetsuya Nemura. Even then it's more so "artsy" for a lack of a better word. Subtly conveying the themes and conflict between Maya and Eve.
>>729337573My wife.
>>729338357we do sometimes, but like once a year or every few years instead of every month like the ps1 ps2 days.

Sperm and Eggs.
Third Birthday should've been a PS3 game. It was held back by PSP and is mostly remembered as being jank garbage when it kinda had potential.
The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.
>>729341765The plot was a complete mess and the lead had quite the character assassination.
>>729341975yeah, but the gameplay was unique for the time. it was just very buggy and clunky but it was decent.but yeah the story was completely butchered and kind of a spit in the face. its a shame its the last game in the series.
>>729341975They lost the rights to Parasite Eve and only retained the character rights to the OCs. They could not do much.
>>729342116I know but still it makes me wonder why Square-Enix even bothered using Aya, Eve, and Kyle to begin with? Might as well have made a new IP with the premise they went with.

Merry Christm- ACK
Rare Parasite Eve thread, and just want to chime in with "3rd Birthday is not real and can't hurt you"
>>729342174Don't know, it never made sense to me either Should've just retired it at 2, but really I'd say it basically wasSure Aya is there in name, but little else is. It's not even actually Aya lol.As far as I'm concerned it's just 2 games.
Why was the third game so bad story wise
>>729342189kino
>>729342304Square had some kind of dispute with the author. The author of the novel declined to give them the rights for a third game. He's now dead, so to reacquire the rights would require consulting with whatever estate he had that now owns the rights.
>>729342280>As far as I'm concerned it's just 2 games.Same here. Though I do wonder where they could've gone had they been able to make a proper sequel.
Every time I give PE2 a chance, I lose interest in the desert area. Never finished it. Finished 1 a couple of times and third shitday once. PE1 just has better aesthetics, vibes and music. Still holds up today.
>>729342670IIRC 2 ended with the revelation the sitting President knew of the the Ark Project and was a part of it. Everyone in the Ark was some kind of richfag abusing the mitochondria to fulfill whatever depraved fantasies they had (the exploding babies were mutated richfags who wanted to be "held in their mommy's arms for eternity). So probably a continuation of 2's story.
>>729337573God I love this game so much, but I know if they ever remake it or do a new game it'll fucking suck
>>729342687I mainly look at PE2 as more so Square's answer to Resident Evil. Enjoying it in a vaccum of its own. It does make me lament somewhat of how much it changed in trajectory to be like RE. Reusing the tank controls, fighting monsters in a lab, etc. Really wish they had made something in the vein of the first game as I described here >>729338910
>>729338463kek true, there was no major conflict so they conjured one up.
>>729338531sovl...
>>729342808>So probably a continuation of 2's story.Makes sense enough. It would be interesting to explore a grander conspiracy about the government and their exploration into ANMC's. Also, didn't Kyle literally get his leg blown off in the true ending as well? I know a year had passed but I wonder how he got away, lie low, and somehow get a prosthetic?
>>729342863>but I know if they ever remake it or do a new game it'll fucking suckThis exactly. Square is just not what they used to be. Nor have they been for such a long time.
I remember somehow either owning PE2 or having a babysitter that owned it, always loved the aesthetic and the combat looked cool cause it reminded be of FF7 but the monsters were too scary for me at the time for me to play it.
>>729343218its alright, they can't take away they originals from us
>>729337573Which shader do (you) use with PE?
>>729342906It was written by the writer of the original Resident Evil, wasn't it? I remember hearing a bunch of unused RE2 concepts went into it.

>Still have my copy and EB strategy guideFeels pretty good man.>>729338910I wish PE2 had been more PE instead of a clunkier and shittier Resident Evil clone.
Everyone should watch the 1997 movie. The director disowned it because he wasn't happy with the changes the studio made him make, but I think without them it would have been impossible to sympathize with the main character since you wouldn't get his internal thoughts like you get in the book. The original novel is fantastic as well. Unfortunately it set my standards too high for the plot of the game after reading it first, but if you're already a fan of the games that won't be an issue.
>>729339957>>729340076Nomura won't design character like this anymore
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=db9Ivw2SNUwtime to post it
>>729350245>I wish PE2 had been more PEI agree. Though in retrospect I see why they did it. Not to justify their decision making, mind you. Plus apparently PE2 started out as a spin off before becoming a full on sequel. So they had invested fewer resources to my knowledge. A missed opportunity truly. They really could've hammered down what made PE great and expanded upon that.
>>729350406Um, I think you're in the wrong thread? Dispatch is kino though.
>>729350454>Unfortunately it set my standards too high for the plot of the game after reading it first, but if you're already a fan of the games that won't be an issue. How does the original source material compare to the games in your eyes? Is there anything missing in the games when compared to the novel?
>>729350506Parasite Eve 2's main battle theme is such a weird shift in direction. https://youtu.be/uxj15MkkU2c?si=CfgvZ_4_YNDF7vai
>>729350712It's just a very different type of story. The book and movie are more akin to something like Frankenstein or Carrie where you know it's building up to something catastrophic but the characters are ignorantly getting closer and closer to it until all hell breaks loose. With the game all hell breaks loose in the first cutscene so you spend the whole time watching the cool hero who gets to take care of it instead of the tragic one who is responsible. I'm not saying the game should have been more like the book, since I think it would make for a very boring game, it's just very different and it could have easily existed as a separate franchise if they changed the title.Last thing I'll say is even if you watch the movie first there are still some surprises in the book that didn't make it into the film, so it's worth reading as well. It's possible the reason I like the movie as much as I do is because I saw it first and wasn't let down by parts being cut.
>>729351289Thanks for your explanation. I've always been curious about the source material. Just never had the chance to truly explore them. In terms of the book in particular I hear some say it can be a dry read. Rather technical and detailed in terms of the scientific and medical theory explored in it. Was that the case in your reading of it? Or are you used to that kind of writing?
>>729350495In which way?
>>729351461Absolutely. Coming up on a decade since I read it, but the book has an extensive glossary that I definitely needed to get through the medical jargon (the author is a bio professor, I think specializing in pharmaceuticals). The attention to detail and research that went into it felt cool to me since it gives an air of legitimacy to what's happening. It's also the only horror novel I've ever come across that includes a works cited section in the back, and something about that made the premise feel that much more threatening. The technical parts come from the protagonist's perspective and his sort of cold, one-track-mind is what causes him to screw up so bad when the characters around him are trying to pull him back, so again, all of that feels in service to the story. The movie makes him a bit more emotional and changes his backstory a little so that his motivations are clearer for the two-hour version.
>>729352071Good to know, thanks again.
>>729352172No problem. If you're not totally sold on the book I'd still l say just watch the movie first and decide if you liked it enough to want more of that story. The effects can be a little wonky but no worse than a pre-rendered PS1 cutscene. There's only about 20 minutes worth of music stretched and reused throughout the whole thing, but it's all by Joe Hisaishi (of Hayao Miyazaki and Takeshi Kitano fame) so it's really great. And like I said earlier, I really enjoy the parts of it that the director didn't want to add, and I like that they differentiate it from the book so it's really like an alternate version of the story instead of a straight adaptation.Merry Christmas, Anon!
>>729352489I'm not dissuaded from reading it, don't worry. But I'll probably give the film a watch first. I really appreciate your thorough analysis you've provided. Might sound like a broken record yet thanks and a very Merry Christmas, to you too.

Why dont they put this on steam?
>>729356404I guess Square-Enix are simply unwilling much like other companies with old and dead IP's. They'll simply do nothing with them even though they can still make money if they put in even minimum effort.
>>729356476Would be funny if they put their old masterpieces on steam and they sold more than the moder crap they do now
>>729356912That would be hilarious and very telling.
>>729356404>>729356476They can't put it on steam because they don't own the IP and no longer have the license. Also Aya Brea's liberation mode was my first experience with monstergirls
>>729338000Long time ago you had real female nerds who saw sexy women in their media as their own power fantasy. Been going on for a long time too. There's interviews with Frank Frazetta where he talks about people criticizing him for sexualizing women in his art, but he had female fans of his who loved it. His own wife was his model and muse.
>>729352071>the book has an extensive glossary that I definitely needed to get through the medical jargon (the author is a bio professor, I think specializing in pharmaceuticals). The attention to detail and research that went into it felt cool to me since it gives an air of legitimacy to what's happening.Sounds like quite the contrast to the game's "We hope you have a 7th grader's understanding of biology and NOTHING FURTHER"
>>729358190License is not a problem if the publisher smells big money, but it's not the case for PE, I doubt the guy who wrote the book gets any other offer
>>729350532according to iwao they actually gave the team even LESS time and resource when they decided to make it a numbered sequel insteadclassic square
>>729359360What's the logic behind that?
>>729359518he didn't say iirc, but>released dec 16almost certainly rushing it out to try to hit the holiday window.
>>729337573Will you play any of the pe clones?
>>729338000Millennial girls and silent gen were normal when they were young
>>729358330Yeah, remember Xena, Charmed, Buffy, Dark Angel, etc etc etc. hell any show from the 90s/2000s had fucking white models as characters. It was healthy for kids libido too, but now everything is ugly and depressing so kids are asexual/furries now
>>729356404Square Enix and capcom are extremely autistic to port any of their special games>No re trilogy >No pe
>>729359518>The development of Parasite Eve II was extremely challenging. Since our staff was originally working on 2D STGs, we lacked both the number of people and necessary experience. Also, as the company's financial performance worsened halfway through development, we had to halve our team! Moreover, due to delays in other main titles, we were ordered to excelerate the release by six months during the late development stage.https://www.crimson-head.com/interviews/kenichi-iwao-parasite-eve
>>729359603That about explains it, what a shame really.
>>729359798Good grief.
>>729342274Thanks for your reassuring words.
>>729347662Yup, Kenichi Iwao.It makes sense, it gets into the whole militarization/commercialization of the weird science shit, and I can absolutely see the GOLEMs being something Umbrella would do. Would've made for an interesting RE2, honestly I think one of the series' biggest flaws is Umbrella never really got fleshed out too much past just being really fucking evil.
>>729359603 Classic Square back then: “Hey, your budget is halved, your team’s been gutted, and oh yeah-you’ve got six months, good luck lol.” Every time I read about how PE2 got made, it feels like it’s a miracle it even turned out as good as it did. Rushing to meet that holiday release probably caused half the stress-induced hair loss in that office.
>>729365507How often did this happen?
>>729365507hell, given the circumstances its a miracle they were able to make a finished & functional product at all, let alone an actually good game too.
>CH: Did you have gameplay ideas regarding Aya Brea's abilities, weapons, or unique monsters that you wanted to implement, but could not be, or did everything the development team envisage successfully come to fruition?>KI: I think there were various things, but I can't remember them. Maybe if I played Parasite Eve II again, I would remember a lot, but that's not easy for me. In life, there are good times and bad times, looking back on the past can sometimes be painful.Goddamn.
