>Players have about 1 max level character.>Out of 13.>"Leveling is good, guys."
What?
>>729339287>Game makes you start an entirely new character and go through hundreds of hours of cutscenes and """quests""" per class you want to play.Yeah no shit>Game lets you play all classes on one character, letting you just level them normally however you like after you've done their dogshit story at least onceI max every class.
>>729339585>Game lets you play all classes on one characterSounds like a shit game
>>729339673Well you're correct technically for both of them, but not for that reason.
schizo bot thread
>WoW is the only MMO I know>And I'll make this thread every single dayGo play fucking video games before you post.
>>729339849WoW is maybe the most popular MMO and had 12M subscribers when leveling was still slow; now, they've sped up leveling, and people still don't play. Last time they announced, 30% of players make it past 10, and 50% of level 10s make it to 25. If people are only leveling 1 character to 10 and 25 (likely), retention to 25 is 15%.
>>729339287Wow great pick for image bordz
>MMO has mechanics that encourage having numerous characters on your account>the monetization locks outfits to single classes and transferring certain items if you want to change your main may be a bigger hassle than it should be
>>729340949in Dofus cosmetics are account-widetransferring isn't a hassle either as your bank/storage is account-wide.
>>729340949>Bind-on still exists.
>>729339719Any MMO that lets you be everything on one character is shit.
>>729342305Again, correct, but not because of the character thing.
>>729342502What then?
>>729339287leveling in MMOs is gay dogshit and always has beenGuild Wars had the right idea, leveling should only take a few hours and questing is there to get you some decent gear and skillsor even better, go the Monster Hunter route and do away with levels altogether
>>729342576Becauase the games became dogshit overmonetized slop with no new content/extremely boring/bad content further accelerated by extremely poor balance decisions. But the free class swapping was great.
>>729342745Fair enough, but class swapping in a traditional MMO format is shit, even if the game has good monetisation and great content.
>>729339585>go through hundreds of hours of cutscenes and """quests""" per class you want to play.If your mmo's leveling experience is cutscene quests you have an inherently dogshit mmo
>>729342895Thats literally every MMO with a population above 4 digits these days.
>>729342865you're a retarded wow faggot it seems, good job>dude just have 500 characters
>>729342865>class swapping in a traditional MMO format is shitwhylike there's definitely an rp appeal to having separate characters but at the end of the day classes are just the vehicle through which you experience content
>>729342865Did you like New World?
>Meanwhile DDO where hitting the "level cap" is relatively quick but nobody has a truly maxed character
>>729343140Obsessed. Never played WoW, but I can tell you've barely played any MMOs if you think WoW is some sort of outlier in regards to one class per character.>>729343282Because it means that the game has no interest in being a virtual world, just an instance simulator. Classes can't bring truly unique advantages because everyone can be anything. >>729343302No, it was a waste of money.
>>729343867>Because it means that the game has no interest in being a virtual world, just an instance simulatorwhat does that have to do with class swapping>Classes can't bring truly unique advantages because everyone can be anythingthat's because of retarded spergs demanding you only play bis classeslike how classic wow turned into world buff simulator almost overnight
>>729343867Logically, you would feel 13x the identity (or however many classes there are) to 1 character. If you said it would be hard to keep up with equipment and bank slots, I would get that.
>>729344156>what does that have to do with class swappingIt removes any sense of tangibility from the world. That one wizard you met before is now a fucking barbarian. It makes one of the most important parts of any RPG null and void. Though I suppose this point might be lost on someone if they've only played "MMOs" with cross-server matchmaking and instanced open-worlds.>that's because of retarded spergs demanding you only play bis classes>like how classic wow turned into world buff simulator almost overnightNever played WoW, but I do know that the endgame was nothing but raiding. And that's the logical outcome when your only objective is to clear instanced content with nothing on the line but time. >Logically, you would feel 13x the identity (or however many classes there are) to 1 character. No, because your character has no real identity. One day you're a squishy rogue with no magical capabilities, the next you're an honourable Paladin and after that you're a bard or a druid. Your character has no defining aspects, they're just whatever they need to be at the moment.
>>729344365PS: I like both. WoW does the 2 professions thing really well, and New World did 1 character really well. Now, just optimize node density for competition, and maybe base building. PvP me up.
How did the French manage to make GOTY and the best MMORPG of 2025?
I played a bunch over the years, one of my first was a mid car combat game Auto Assault then the missfire Tabula Rasa. Never got into GW but liked the sequel, the first mmo to really grab me was FFXI and its demand for player cooperation and karma. Players had reps and it mattered so if you were a filthy pk’er or a team player it would impact your ability to join parties. Too many games built upon the cooperation theme are made too solo friendly these days.I tried WoW many years later after the Burning Crusade I think it was and the sentiment amongst the players at the time was things were going awry very fast. I hated the art style but liked the grind, remember hunting some silly dragon mount that spawned like once every few hours or was days. Helped a friend get it then he promptly stopped playing I lasted another month or so before bailing myself.Dunno if I got another mmo left in the tank
>>729345850>ESOMy condolences
>>729339287But I had around 40 max level characters when I played WoW, 2 maxed accounts on RS3, 10 on GW1 (Pretty easy to be fair) and two on GW2.
>>729345978I don’t have any way to track it but I want to say I spent more time in ARR dual boxing with my laptop running hunt announcing apps but that became more of an unpaid job than fun. Only screenshot I kept was a comparison of my top played games of the year at the time, I primarily played FF on pc and it had it’s own launcher/patcher. So much time never coming back oof.
>>729346089100-1k players have to make 1 character to make your characters approximately 1.
>>729339287FFXI figured it out 20 years ago. Not only allowing you to have all jobs on one character, but allowing you to have subjobs that are half the level of your main job so you have an incentive to level up other jobs so you can use the skills on your main job. FF14 had needing to level other classes to use important skills(Raging Strikes and Bloodbath on dps and I think Raise on Paladin among many others?) but they removed that when they started dumbing the game down.
>>729339287I've been playing PSO1 and every character having its own droptable is a good motivator to make multiple characters, especially since gear isn't really level locked, its mostly stat locked, so its easier to level your alts. Not every class is good at farming at specific places either, so having multiple characters eases that.RO was really great at this too.
>>729343867>Classes can't bring truly unique advantages because everyone can be anything. Are you pretending to be retarded or are you actually retarded? A good example for this is FFXI, your levels are tied to the class, you can't just swap classes and still be level 75. There's no difference between having a lv 10 black mage and a lv 60 white mage on separate characters and one single character that can swap between being a lv 10 black mage and a lv 60 white mage. The classes still have unique advantages between each other, even if you couldn't swap, people would just level up the meta classes anyway.
>>729345118>That one wizard you met before is now a fucking barbarian> your character has no real identity.Oh yeah suddenly Sephirot07 the rogue logs out and Sephirot08 the wizard logs in, character identity was preserved! It's not even about character identity, you're just getting "the ick".
I want an ARK MMO.
