>>729348305I played a lot of shit games back in the day (roborumble, dominion: storm over gift 3) but some of them were absolutely classics (total annihilation, starcraft broodwar, c&c tiberian sun, homeworld)there were good games and bad games back then too, but you may have been "blinded by nostalgia" with some of the bad ones of the era.

>>729348305That's the entire GTA series for meRDR2 was only fun because of the Western setting, but the Rockstar(tm) gameplay loop of driving and shooting ad infinitum in that game is dreadful
This entire thread only exists because the younger generation wants "retro stuff" for christmas instead of shitty slop or fucked up demakes.
>>729348335you love your zoomslop

>>729348305Assassin's creed 3. Loved it at 16 played it again 2 years ago and was so disappointed of it. The voice acting, the gameplay loop. I still love how easy the combat is in that game compared to black flag
That's been my experience with Magic Carpet 2 so far. The game is full of some serious bullshit>cruising along >suddenly a sentinel appears right in your face and one shots you>level against other magic carpet users>try to kill one, faggot just keeps running back to his castle or just hanging around it which instantly heals him>one level starts you completely surrounded by spiders which is a massive fuck youI'm having a hard time understanding what I saw in this god damn game as a kid
>>729348305>>play an old game i used to enjoy>>it turns out to be abysmal dogshitMy friend says this and it's an annoying mentality. Not every old game you used to enjoy needs to be a classic (aka timeless). Nor does that make it a bad game.
>>729348305Brutal Legend was great when I was in middle school but now I realize that the gameplay is dogshit. Everything else is still cool.
>>729350483>I have to consider other people's opinions (whether it should be a classic or is considered a bad game by people on the internet) before considering my own experience when voicing my opinion on what I got out of a game???
>>729351537What? You said you used to enjoy the old game and now suddenly its dogshit.

>>729350107>disappointed of itgo back
>>729356116I just 100% the third one. it was really bad. I'm not sure why I forced myself to get through the whole game when almost half of it were mini games, most of them being shit at that. It made me mad that they veered so far from the simple formula of the first game I was alone this Christmas and spyro 3 was the first vidya I remember getting as a gift
>>729348380Have zoomers came up with anything that is original?
>>729348305literally never happened to me
I'm playing Parasite eve 1 right now for the Christmas vibes, never played it before. It's great, love it.
Me with Dawn of War 1. The gameplay feels really dated and dogshit compared to company of heroes. The pathfinding is especially godawful.
>>729354260>became too much of a snob to enjoy simple thingsi wish that this'll never happen to me
>character is named mads>he's actually a pretty chill guy
>>729348305I don't think I've ever had this experience. There have been plenty of games that I was a lot less engaged with on a replay simply because I had gotten older and significantly better at video games, but I could always still see why kid me liked them so much.
>play old game>lose decades of my life
>>729348335Fastest draw in the west just like your father
>>729353408You are an anon of culture
I've never really had this problem, the bad games I played as a kid were cheap licensed trash where their low quality is going to be self evident coming back to them. if I remember a game fondly it's usually going to have enough going for it to at least be charming if not necessarily the best technical game.
>>729348305More like>play game from childhood/teens that you really liked>you're way too fucking good at vidya now and it's so easy that it's gotten extremely boring unless you can find good mods (most difficulty mods are awful) or do self-imposed challenges (usually not fun)

>>729348305I will list some boomer kino I’ve played in the past few months in an attempt to avoid doomscrolling with an equally wasteful but less artistically meaningless past time. >sands of time simple but great fun. Very “mummy 1999” vibe. Final boss is terrible but it didn’t rob the overall quality. >Bioshock 1similarly shit final boss but this one did take away from the quality. The whole last level is terrible. That said the highs are super high, impeccable vibes througtout, everything up to killing Ryan is 10/10. >HL1 Fun but I feel it overstays its welcome. Xen is generally weak. Great weapon and enemy variety. Bad final boss >HL2 Source 2 games have the comfiest ambience on the block. Too short instead of too long, not enough weapon variety but each level is a fucking game dev masterclass. Bridge was my favorite. No final boss which I guess is an improvement >DeS It’s got severe issues but it does so much right I don’t think I care. There’s so much intention to the enemy and boss placement in conjunction with the zones they occupy. The bosses feel like the culmination of your struggles in the level instead of just some unrelated guy you find afterwards. Great final boss, breaking the cycle. >AC Silent Line Currently filtering me hard. Tips? Discuss any of the above or recommend me more boomer kino. I’ve been eyeing thief

I used to play a ton of games that, in retrospect, were trash.Custom robo is cool, but I liked it for the edgy anime plot, but the fights could all be cheesed even with legal partsEvery anime fighter is bad and a spamfest.I played every platformer slop you could think of in the 90’s. Glover, Gex, Chameleon Twist. Mystical Ninja gets a pass because it’s genuinely charming and has a great soundtrack.Harvest Moon Mineral Town and all derivatives are objectively worse than anything out now. Most movie games, like the X-men games, matrix, chronicles of riddick, and Star Wars games, are slop central. OnlyAbout 30% of starwars games are good.I could go on, but when you’re a kid you’ll play anything? And before information was crazy available and games were accessible on all platforms you kinda just got into what you were exposed to or could rent from blockbuster
