Love this shit

Hahaha, who is gonna tell him the series has always been scifi. From the very first game.
>>
>>729348781
It was actually a sci fi game all along pretending to be fantasy
>>
>>729348948
Yeah it's kino and surprisingly hasn't been done as much as some people suggest. I love RPGs that combine two different settings together so you go from swinging a sword then blasting fuckers with a gun

Pic related VTM redemption kind of does this with a huge time skip from the middle ages to modern times
>>
>>729349240
It was all the rage in early western RPG series but fell off as time went on. Wizardry, ultima, MM, etc. I'd say it was because that generation of nerds really liked both fantasy and scifi and many early games were just them throwing shit they liked together.

Why the fuck is MM7 so fucking short. Those dungeons are like 5 rooms. Barrow Downs in the only big good dungeon in the game and that for some reason is sectioned off into many little dungeons. Like did the publisher tell them to make the dungeons small after people bitched about Darkmoor and Varn in the original
>>
>>729349332
I meant MM6 not the original MM

Does anything compare to flying in this game while the soundtrack plays in the background while fire bombing random enemy hordes

They were simply rushed after MM VI. Might and Magic VIII is even more sloppy.

I'm talking about real actual RPGs
>>
>>729350168
They honestly should have merged the development of 7 and 8 together so we can get one really good big game but of course 3DO has to be shitters by forcing them to release a MM every year
>>
>>729348948
I don't. Its nerd gluttony, often contrived and implies the fantasy setting they've created isn't strong enough to stand on its own.
>>
>>729350308
you can do that yourself now with the merge mod at least
>>
>>729350308
I still think VII is better than VI. VI has bloat but a lot of the world is empty.

VIII was shit though, and IX was borderline unplayable.

80s and 90s boomies had a thing for anachronistic fantasy blends for some reason, where they attach Sci-Fi elements into a game, the history of the world having an ancient advanced alien civilization, or there is a secret alien entity in the background that people don't know about that is pulling the strings.

Ultima had that, Wizardry had that, and D&D had that.
>>
>>729350435
funny how the current take on that is isekai, ie fantasy with anachronistic elements of the present
though i haven't seen much of it in games
>>
>>729350435
Summoner 2 had the best application of this IMO, all the high tech magic shit in that was Lovecraftian and esoteric.
>>
>>729350310
They hated him because he spoke the truth.
>>
>>729350435
The turning point was HOMM3. It attracted normies like bees to honey who understood nothing of the mainlines games and their setting. When they tried to release the infamous Forge faction in armageddon's blade the franchise tourists lost their shit and it had to be scrapped.
>>
>>729350310
If it's done well I don't mind but it's not even a surprising twist anymore.
>>
>>729350672
>Summoner
I have the first game is it worth playing? Had no idea there was a 2nd game.
>>
>>729350810
Well that's fucking depressing. I suppose I'm okay with the sci fi elements not being in the HOMM games but Forge looked like a cool faction to fight in The main Might and Magic games
>>
>>729350435
>for some reason
It's really simple, most games were a bunch of turbo nerds getting together and making shit. And 80s/90s turbo nerds liked 2 things near universally, star wars and DnD.
>>
>>729350435
I'm not super familiar with DnD but I had no idea it had Sci Fi elements?
>>
>>729350912
it's console only but it's really good i think. i still have yet to play the first one. the protag from 1 actually appears, as well as Yago. the magic and stuff is the most interesting stuff i think, it's like Dune high sci-fi in how expressive it is, it's not typical at all.

I hate your game if it does this. Use proper isometric solids or fuck off. D2s are the only acceptable one since that's a coin flip.

It wasn't uncommon for fantasy to be mixed with some sci-fi stuff in the 80s to 90s..
Ultima comes to mind, and I think the Xanth books have a little too.

Well D&D is just the rules and game you can make your own campaigns for in whatever made up world or setting you want, but over the years they’ve published settings and campaigns they’ve created themselves, the most popular one being Forgotten Realms, which is where Baldur’s Gate etc is set
I’m no expert so I’m not sure if there’s sci fi stuff in Forgotten Realms but there’s been other official settings like Spelljammer that had sci fi elements.
I know in Baldur’s Gate 2 you ran into a spelljammer pilot at one point, and in the travelling mage sphere you run into characters from another D&D setting who talk about being picked up on a different planet, but I’m not sure if these are just easter eggs or if they attempted to combine all the settings into one, and if it was the latter I’m not sure if they’re still doing it in todays age or if they’ve given up
>>
>>729348781
Sci-fi and fantasy used to be intertwined due to Star Wars and other "lived-in" settings. Ultima famously has one of the princesses you must save tell you that she'll only reveal the secret of the time machine if the player is a "Space Ace" meaning they shot down a bunch of enemy spaceships while flying their own space ship.
>>
I like how much of a step back MM7 sci fi reveal is. You just find some dude in his rich apartment shooting at you with a gun.
>>

This.
