Can I just play Serious Sam 3? I like old fps games like quake n stuff but I just hit what is I guess the second frog section and fuck that I don't really want to play this game anymore. I like the giant horde aspect but the pick up a 1hp healthpack and a giant enemy spawns behind you with dual rocket launchers is kind of not my idea of fun

Serious Sam is overrated

If you're not having fun, you're probably right

Nah I mean I'm having fun, it's just really rough because it feels super trial and error but there's not really a proper checkpoint system so either you cheese it or get just one step further into a level each time. The latest levels I played were pretty hard so I just used two saves total

I thought you guys played this game man answer me

If you play Serious Sam 3, play the Fusion version and install the Enhanced mod. If you don't have a basic idea of what enemies do then it might be a bit much at first, but once you get a groove it's pretty fun to mindlessly click your way to victory. Base game is too simple for my liking desu.
TFE is still the peak of the series though so you're missing out.

I got past the frogs so i'll keep playing. Is tse and sam 2 worth it? I don't really have that much spare time rn and it doesn't really feel like the games are super interconnected

Serious Sam is more routing heavy than other FPS games. The primary appeal is honing map knowledge and your overall skill. In other games that stuff is secondary while the main appeal is adventure and exploration. If you don't want to spend hours practicing maps, just play something else or quicksave bomb.

Nah
TSE > TFE > SS4 > SS3 > SS2
All are amazing games though.

OP, get fusion and get the weapon resource mod, you can give yourself weapons from TF2, doom, counter strike, overwatch, star wars, and a bunch of awesome custom made ones. Works in any serious sam game too.

A lot of people recommend TSE, and they think it's even superior all around, even in difficulty, but I found the combat in particular too easy. Too many resources if you know how to juggle enemies around.
Aesthetically I think it's straight up worse than TFE since Egypt is allowed to build up an atmosphere while the areas in TSE don't get that room to breathe.
Meso-America in particular is gimmick galore and that might turn you away, and I wouldn't blame you for it. The rest of the game is relatively tame in its traps so it's jarring.
And the arsenal resets is annoying because they all have the same general flow of acquisition. I am a person that does not mind losing my arsenal, but if the weapons generally come back to me in the same order over and over well then I think it signals to me how little they thought about their combat rooms. Sam 2 also does this arsenal removal thing but I think it handles it way better IMO.
Sam 2 is a peculiar case where I could not tolerate it for the longest time since none of the other games are like it in terms of aesthetic (it is actually detrimental to the game because they'll reskin an enemy like four different times depending on the area but I'm saying despite that, the overall visual tone difference is worse than any gameplay gripe) but I managed to power through it with the Renovation Mod the game has pre-installed and found it pretty fun for what it is. The game absolutely picks up once you reach Kleer Planet, but it's certainly a bit of a chore at times prior, and the fuck awful flying sections at Euro-land late in the game blows.
If you can learn to embrace the silliness I do think it's pretty fun overall, but that said the cutscenes are still awful. Just skip em' if you can't appreciate them ironically. That is assuming you can get past Jungle Planet because holy shit it's probably one of the greatest filters in vidya. It is such a bad impression.
TLDR: if you cant get past meso america and Jungle , drop them

Second Encounter is my favorite and SS2 is my least favorite but this is a perfectly fair assessment.

SS4 is the best in the series as far as gameplay goes, it's just the cutscenes are atrocious and some people had bugs when it came out.

Insane to put ss4 above any gane

SS4 has the worst gameplay in the franchise. the levels are big and expansive and have no design to them at times. just useless padding where you drive or do shitty vehicle combat (way worse than SS2). later levels are so unfinished you can just skip parts of them by jumping over a wall. it has the worst visual design. where everything casts an incredibly dark shadow, and the game manages to be so blurry looking with its shitty rendering effects that everything is impossible to see.
