I don't think there's still subsidies where the US government pays farmers NOT to farm, or to destroy food.

There's no excuse for that to ever happen and it did.

It still happens in other sectors though, DRAM manufacturers intentionally cut production to save on costs and raise prices, whiskey makers are intentionally cutting production instead of lowering prices...

Capitalism is just fucking retarded

China system says "more supply? lower prices? good".

Capitalism says "more supply? lower prices? bad, this is a supply glut, this is deflationary, this is bad for bottom line, we need to stop production".
>>

>>729357289
The reason RAM prices went up is that there's only like 3 different companies that produce it at scale, they all got massive purchase orders set for the next few years worth the better part of a trillion dollars from OpenAI and couldn't say no to it, but none of these companies actually believe the money will come through and that OpenAI will crash and burn before the payments are due.
So none of them are willing to increase capacity to keep RAM prices where they currently are since then once OpenAI fucking dies they'll be left with massive amounts of overproduction which drives down pricing.
You might think the eventual catastrophic price crash is thus inevitable, but unfortunately a concerningly large part of the western economy is heavily invested into the AI circlejerk bubble. Major investment companies and pension funds buy the biggest stocks either directly or via indexes, and they're now heavily dependant on the value of companies like Nvidia saying unrealistically high.
This means that once OpenAI goes bust and is unable to pay for hundreds of billions of dollars worth of RAM, the entire world economy will go bust in a way that makes 2008 look uneventful so you won't be able to afford new RAM anyways.
>>

>the entire world economy will go bust in a way that makes 2008 look uneventful so you won't be able to afford new RAM anyways.

Actually things become more affordable when this happens, like houses became way more affordable after 2008

These economic collapses are only "bad" for people who "own things"

Bad for people who own property; good for people who want to afford a house

In capitalism, a "housing crisis" is when homes become cheaper and more affordable

Bad for people who own stocks; irrelevant or a buying opportunity for people who don't

Bad for people who benefit from selling products because of lower prices; good for people who want to buy things at lower prices

The entire capitalist "economy" is setup where the interests of the "owners" is diametrically opposed to the interests of people who own nothing and have to work for money

You remember the Chinese Evergrande thing? This was intentionally caused by the government because they didn't want capitalist house speculation, and the western media acted like cheap affordable housing for everyone was a "housing crisis" and a bad thing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houses_are_for_living,_not_for_speculation

>deflation
This is one of the biggest proofs that capitalism is a fucking retarded system

Western mainstream economists believe prices going down is bad, "deflation", they instead dream of a system where we have 2% inflation a year but wage growth outpaces it, forever and ever.

So you need food to live right? Well that literally doesn't matter, western economists would believe that an abundance of food, driving prices down, would be a bad thing.

They criticize China for this, claiming their efficient production leading to abundance and lower prices, is causing "over-capacity", "supply gluts", and uncompetitive conditions for western corporations.

It's kind of a deranged way of thinking these people have, where the end goal isn't making human's lives better, but making economic numbers better at the expense of humans.
>>
>>729357653
>I don't think there's still subsidies where the US government pays farmers NOT to farm, or to destroy food.
No, it is absolutely normal to pay farmers to destroy food even today. They do it in most of the western world. Fact is western farmers produces far more food than is needed.

It's a retarded take. Like sure I agree about the part where the poors don't care and aren't that affected because they don't have shit to begin with, often partially or fully depending on the gibs and money printing from the government.

But the elites who "own things" are rich and powerful enough to profit from crashes, as they divert their shares before shit hits the fan since they got insight and often literally dictate the stock market.

The real ass fucking that you oh so celebrate happens at the middle class level, which I suppose is the whole story of the Western downfall in the last 30 years.

First time buyers who suddenly lose big part of their equity while being stuck with mortgage, people who try to invest for some retirement because the government's pension isn't enough to even be called livable. People with above minimum wage as they never get a significant raise without changing jobs, but pay most of the taxes and get fucked the most with every price inflation by companies recuperating their quarterly losses, usually caused by govs printing money and boosting the minimum wage for elections etc.

Exactly. The moment cloud providers started hoovering up every chip on the market and locking in supplier contracts for years, it was over for us. Isn't the point of supply and demand that price goes down if there's more supply. Let say the ram price stabilize and you start destroying ram to reduce supply and increase price. That'd be absurd. Let the market play out. Seems like the only time the government steps in is when the prices go too low. When the entire point of the system is that as progress is made shit gets cheaper and cheaper, which is encourages bigger and better things.

Casual reminder the average American is like 10 thousand dollars in debt.
>>
>>729368464
Because the govt doesn't make a return on the investment further increasing their debt at the cost of stabilizing food. If they're buying overly abundant food for $100 and burning half then selling the other half for $50 it's still better than flooding the market and now that $100 of food is worth $10.
Who should eat that loss? The farmer can't afford to sell that food for what it's worth but it has a shelf life and the govt can't afford to buy it at a 90% loss instead of a 50%. Crashing markets are very bad for necessities because you can afford to stop making luxuries but you need to always be producing necessities.
Also the govt does stockpile what it can it's why we have cheese caves lol.

>they all got massive purchase orders set for the next few years worth the better part of a trillion dollars from OpenAI
It has nothing to do with OpenAI and HBM which makes up like 2% of world's RAM production, it happened because in October major Chinese manufacturer stopped producing DDR4 because of american sanctions, immediately creating shortage. Over Half the population makes less than 1000 rmb a month which is part of how they keep them out of the cities because that's not even enough to rent a room in a major city.
>>
>>729357289
It's hard to say. Manufacturers are just straight up moving focus away from the consumer market. Micron blatantly exited and Hynix/Samsung are on the verge of doing the same thing. If that happens then prices are beyond fucked forever and it's basically the death of home building and ownership. Now if that doesn't happen even if we parallel this to all the GPU scalping, and the subsequent nonsensical price hikes from the companies themselves, we can't really look at those as a 1:1 correlation. We sit on RAM generations for years upon years. At most we get breakthroughs on higher mhz and tighter clock timings that fit the profiles of current CPUs but the price to performance ratio isn't ever really worth it, and if early adopting another generation of ram is anything like ddr4 to ddr5 was then you'd probably wait anyway. The prices should honestly crater down to something realistic but it's not going to ever reach the low points ever again. The only way that happens though is if companies finally get their special boy ram kits and they start selling off the useless gamer ram. Everything is far too sketchy and there's a good chance we're more unbelievably fucked than we realize right now.

Because it's the best investment at the moment.

Not him but what was stopping the government from just reselling the food they bought from the farmers at the same if not lower price rather than burn it? That way farmers still get to make money and the consumer gets more and cheaper product, no?

they're more PC gamers than any previous generation

Because it's flooding the market. The food also doesn't stay good forever it just rots which is why they just burn it.
Also how is the food getting anywhere? Who's paying to transport it?
People just see their burning food and knee jerk when they're burning food that would go to waste anyway when they're getting rid of it because they can't actually do anything with it.
It's not like they're not donating it to food banks/homeless sheltters(They are). It's just easier to get rid of a lot of it then let it rot because they can't make weekly deliveries since they're buying large harvests in bulk.

It's not as if we don't currently have dogshit transport methods that cost a shit ton of money but we keep around because it gives people jobs. It'd be a lot easier to just have trains everywhere but we still use trucks don't we? Even then you could still sell it to local chains for cheap and let them deal with it or set up a temporary shop. Or just give it away too since the farmers were already made whole by the goverment stepping in.
Even letting the food rot would be better since you at least get compost there rather than just ashes

A lot of problems with these places as well is that they can't just have the govt dump 10000 lbs of food on them where can they store it? Can they refrigerate 1000 lbs of food? It's why food banks need canned shit and non-perishable goods with long shelf lives, should the govt now also can the food?
The goal was to stabilize the food supply and we've gone far from that now.
Again if I dump a million lbs of food on you and it goes bad in a month what are you doing with it?
They're burning the shit they can't do ANYTHING with and they're just paying to transport it somewhere else to fucking rot.

Have new GPU releases fallen back to pre-covid hysteria prices? If not, why do you think it would be the case for RAM? The same market conditions as for GPUs exist: very few players having a complete stronghold over the market. They will just keep reducing supply and inflating the price.

Unless it crashes and burns, no.

>>729357289
name one instance of prices going down to their "previous normal" after inflating

stop being boomerphobic

Covid made car prices skyrocket, and they're still stupidly high.
So no, the high prices will stay. The whole point of this shit is to introduce "a new normal" with some shitty excuse, and then when the excuse dies people will forget about the old normal
