I'm trying to get into rougelites but I'm having some major issues
I think I can like them, I kind of do, but I have a ton of problems
The main problem is that it seems you either die because of some stupid RNG bullshit enemy, or you completely wipe the enemies due to some OP combination of items
Are there roguelites that balance this, and don't have metaprogression as a cope for losers? I've played the popular ones like RoR, RoR 2, Hades, Slay The Spire and Wizard of Legend and just get bored only about 10 hours in
So what do bros, where are the good roguelites that aren't just spam items and steamroll?

dunno i guess rogue legacy was somewhat popular aeons ago

Get Caveblazers. 2D sidescrolling roguelite. The metaprogression consists of new classes to pick at the start and some new unlocks which can appear in your run.

Shooting is 8-directional like 2D metroids.

Don't get filtered by the fact that it was published by Yogscast. They didn't develop it.

Diamond in the rough.

Neither game from your pick is rng dependant, they are all about skill. In Isaac's case rng affects the probability of deleting entire rooms in one second but you can absolutely make do with the hand you've been dealt, no matter how shitty it is

Try Monolith/Star of Providence, it’s probably the most balanced and least RNG dependent roguelite I can think of

No one plays games here

I don't really get the metaprogression hate that much.
I mean games like Hades and such are pretty clearly balanced around you having all your upgrades. The meta progression is just a very long tutorial.

>I want to play roguelites but I'm not really hooked. Also I dislike the rng. Despite that, can you recommend me some roguelites?
>weeeeee why is noone posting in my retarded thread
maybe play something you actually enjoy, retard

Clearly there's something hooking me about the genre so I want actual players to help me out

Spelunky/Spelunky 2

That's enough of a reason to hate it.

There are 2 worthwhile upgrades in Hades - DD and bonus damage on debuffed enemies and you can get them in just a few, if not a single run. The rest might as well not exist. And if you're pushing heat, turning off the last 3 talent rows is a pretty safe choice. And for weapon upgrades, it either doesn't matter at all, or having 5 is a requirement, but then it's less of a progression, but rather just a cost.
And then there's TBoI where most unlocks actually suck and only dilute your originally decent pool.

FTL and Synthetik are my favourite roguelites. Into the breach is nice too.
