>Our rockets don't have enough range to strike at the United States
>Should we improve our rocket technology?
>Nah, let's just design and build a giant rocket powered super tank that needs a 3 mile long runway to accelerate to 300 miles per hour to give our nuclear missiles the boost they need!
Kojima is a fucking hack. A loveable hack, but a hack nonetheless.

The chase sequence and boss fight with this thing fucking suck major ass.

I loved it. Pure kino.

If you told me they actually considered that it would hardly be that shocking compared to all the other nonsense they were cooking up.

>every launchpads controled from space
I guess you didn't hear about submarines

>>Should we improve?
>>Nah, let's waste money
Sounds about right

Oh, just "improve!", that's great. Let's just put more people to work down the improvement mines and harvest some more improvement, and then your technology can do anything it couldn't before. Having trouble squaring away fuel efficiency and target accuracy over enormous distances? Improve those problems away.

If you think the Shagohod was unrealistic, you should check out the stupid shit we were trying to make in the 40s-70s. From a nuclear powered ICBM that would perpetually circle the globe while shitting out radiation, to a giant gun built on the side of a mountain.
Hell, even normal sounding things could be insane. You know, they once made a prop plane with a prop that rotated so fast the tips would constantly generate sonic booms, dozens a second. It caused ground crew to vomit, get burst blood vessels, and even concussions, just by being within 100ft of the thing. It had so much torque that it would constantly try to corkscrew the plane mid flight. First person flew it once and said they'd have to shoot him before he'd get in again.

This was the original pitched idea for a VTOL.
>>
It was the type of shit that would get developed with unchecked spending and the old wunderwaffen mentality.
And they just wanted to have some 007 fun

Your choices:
a) build a gigantic missile that can't be transported or hidden outside its launching base
b) build a scud launcher that can use any long flat surface or autoroute to make scud reach another continent

Also go ahead and find a better reason to make fictional evil superweapon.

You can argue the purpose is reasonable, you could even argue that making it have an articulated upper body with screw propulsion had a practical purpose.
But why did they feel the need to make it go REEEEEEEEEE?

A reminder those flying platforms were based on real prototype

Entire idea of metal gear fucking sucks agree.
>You know, they once made a prop plane with a prop that rotated so fast the tips would constantly generate sonic booms
Actually one is in service since 50's, TU-95 is 4 engine turboprop strategic bomber who's props on all 4 engines rotate faster than speed of sound generating shockwaves. It's loud as fuck spawned small family of planes and is currently launching cruise missiles at Ukraine.

The only reason this is retarded is because you can't plant your platform to resist the force of the missile firing while also having it move forward to provide extra velocity.
If it were a viable idea with our physics it would probably be way easier than literal rocket science
