But it's easier to fuck things up, or get an update that breaks things. If you're gonna use it I recommend using the BTRFS file type and learning how to make snapshots of your system. There's even a GUI tools for that pre installed. So you're picking between >So stable it's immutable >Stable if you're not a retard>Gives you access to the most software, but might breakYou'll probably be fine in any if you just use browsers and steam though.
>>729362839Which is funny cause just recently their store team proudly announced that they finally managed to rewrite their entire thing to be .net focused.Which means the different parts of Microsofts software departments do not communicate with eachother at all.You have one team re-writing everything one way while another one is already planning rewrites into a different language. And you wonder why Windows is such a massive shitshow these days.
>>729362839Why don't most linux devs see that the push for rust is not natural? Most private companies are doing it without thinking now, this isn't some cool new language that is getting traction, it's being pushed hard by the market. And they're using that more permissible license that doesn't require it to be free now. My theory is that microsoft is tired of making their own OS, so they're gonna hijack linux, close source it and sell it back to retards.
>>729362839it will be written by AI and checked by indiansvery good coding sirsif you're still using windows you're literally mentally retarded.
>>729363235>Which means the different parts of Microsofts software departments do not communicate with eachother at all.It leaked out a little while ago that google said the only way to increase revenue at this point is to actively make the product worse so people have to spend more time interacting with it to accomplish what they want.Wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft is taking a similar approach because they're that dumb.
>>729363410Later down the line they will have no choice but to do it - many parts of MS openly admit they don't know how shit even works anymore on Windows. So why not just outsource that shit to Linux developers who do it for free? You take Linux - package it your way - ship it with your exclusively slop/spyware - and just make sure those compatibility layers keep working through your "Windows" distro. At this point Linux can basically run anything Windows anyway with the exception of kernel level garbage - which is gonna end soon as well due to MS planning to remove kernel-level access for third parties.
>>729361983The "problem" with an easy to learn and understand package manager is that you can install things that are conflicting or require maintenance that can result in needing to catch up on that maintenance later after a failure. A stable system like Debian won't change the functionality of packages much between major releases, but that leaves the system fairly limited unless you expand the package manager, which just reintroduces the problem of maintenance.Arch with some CachyOS packages (there's a script to add them in the CachyOS install guide) is probably still the option that meets most criteria, just remember to read the news section and keep a rescue USB if it turns out that you should have updated your GRUB config after an update or something.>Why not specifically CachyOS?It's more difficult to diagnose specific issues when the base system that would be functional with the software differs from your system. Fixing compatibility issues like this offers a clearer path forward, because the variables can be isolated.>>729362839>Microsoft fails the salt spray test>>729363410Here's hoping that decompilation becomes more prevalent and copyright is abolished before society fails the salt spray test and is rewritten in Rust. Software development can't happen without the potential for rampant forking.
>>729360943It doesn't matter
>>729363993>just remember to read the news section and keep a rescue USB if it turns out that you should have updated your GRUB config after an update or something. Some pacman helpers like pikaur fetch the news on update and tell you if there's something that requires manual intervention.

I'm on linux but it's not without its rough edgesI have to worry about kernel versions. I have crashes I never experience on Windows with my GPU. I have to run my games under a different fucking compositor to actually get similar input latency. It's not straightforward, not at all. Unless you have some more basic setup. And performance is nothing impressive at all, I have not found a single game running equal or better (on a full AMD build). It doesn't bother me and opening applications/the file manager and such are really fast at least. But it's not winning me over the way some people would tell me it would?
