Its impossible to gatekeep anything in the internet age...if you're a fan. The media has to be capable of gatekeeping itself either because its topics and media is too unconventional or niche for people to understand. I'll use an example of something that has for decades now, managed to somewhat accomplish this...Godzilla. Godzilla is objectively speaking a huge pop-culture icon who everyone knows about superficially. Now ask anyone, 1000 people in a one mile radius if they can describe to you any Godzilla movies, monsters, specific scenes, cartoons, comics, games. They'll describe Godzilla as some goofy monster in corny suits or say they know "the flying one." Nothing about Godzilla is appealing to normalfags, only the fans themselves. Even the big-budget, Monsterverse movies with full CGI and Breaking Bad man or other actors, doesn't rake in that much profit. They make just enough from Godzilla fans, no more, no less. Point is if you want something gatekept, pray to Christ that its just weird or silly or bizarre enough to deter the average man away.
