Which game is better? My friend claims that Automata is vagueslop that gets boring after few hours, while Replicant has an actual interesting story with beginning and end, but I barely heard people talk about that game as opposed to Automata (I guess because of 2B?)
>>
>>729367504
they're frotting offscreen btw
>>
Replicant has more soul, more interesting writing and better characters. Automata has better combat

2B!

I like Replicant more

Automata is an all around upgrade from Replicant. Nier1 had cool ideas for the time, but kinda poor implementation.
Automata's story is also superb, and ties much more closely to OUR world and life.
>>
>>729367504
Automata is slightly better in terms of story but it's arguable
Automata also has much better gameplay and open world design, but the combat for both are pretty borinf

Automata has the better story?! What?
>>
>>729367504
I haven't played Replicant but I fapped more to Kaine than to 2B
>>
>>729367971
Yes. The stakes are higher, lore is deeper, and the subtext is more nuanced, more closely reflecting our human life here and now. The whole package feels better thought through, and it utilizes its many layers of meta better. It helps that unlike Replicant, Automata does not make you replay the very same half of the story 5 times, only to change ending cutscenes a bit.

Wrong. Kaine is face-fucking 9S while he's fucking 2B. Young Brother Nier is getting femdomed by A2 and Emil is just watching all this unfold

>>729367537
That's a good way to put it. Objectively, Automata has better combat and gameplay, but the story didn't even make sense until the last 3rd of the game and you don't even get to play as the best girl until then.

Replicant's combat is clunky but functional and the "open world" is on par with Ocarina of Time, but I like the characters more because their motivations are clearer, they come across as more relatable due to understanding their circumstances more and their interactions are more believable. Plus, a lot of the quests have great writing and I liked the interactions with the NPCs a lot. Seafront, Facade and Nier's village really do feel like real places at times despite the relative limitations of the game. The boss fights were more epic too.

As to which one is better, they're both great games honestly. I think trying to say one is better than the other really undermines the unique nature of the DrakenNier games as a whole. Outside of the OG Drakengard, they are all high quality games that despite their limitations in budget and technology, have great gameplay and amazing stories. Even the OG Drakengard is still "good" due to how fucking maddening it is. I can't hate either one.

good post
>>
Damn it, then I guess the question is: what is a better starting point?
>>
>>729369461
They are both good starting points but Automata is enhanced if you played Replicant first
>>
>>729368704
The game's structure and "routes" are also much better in Automata.
Having to replay Replicant for the third time adds basically nothing, they could've implemented Route C scenes into route B and it would've made the game's end less monotonus, even if it makes sense to make you numb to the killing again and put you in protagonist's shoes after Route B reveals .
Or just make it the same as C/D, let the player see ending B first and then load the final save for the other endings.
Btw I love Replicant a bit more than Automata, but both games are fantastic and complement each other with different strengths and weaknesses.

Automato is the better videogame
>better combat
>better movement
>less tedious ending unlocks
story wise i prefer it too thanks to the machines but i didn't know wtf was going on with the plot towards the end
both nice games
idk if i should emulate the drakengard games or wait for remaster
>>
>>729370347
I think they both emulate well
>>
replicant wins by default for having yonah (child) in
>>
>>729369461
Drakengard 1
>>
>>729368704
Yeah the side quests in both games rock but some of Replicants really made me feel
>>
>>729370580
hell no
>>
>>729367504
Replicant has a much better story and the soundtrack is also slightly better, but everything else about the game is way worse.
>>
>>729367504
The truth is that both are trolly games that demand a good deal of patience and a sense of humor. Automata has the more mainstream game design, but Replicant has the superior narrative and characters by an order of magnitude.
>>
Automata is better, replicant is just too dated and repetitive. Alot of the people posting ITT have forgotten the fetch quests and grinding in the abandoned robot mines. And the B side is largely the entire gand again with no real difference
>>
>>729367504
Replicant has much better music. I listen to my favorite tracks all the time. Haven't listened to a single one from Automata aside from when I played the game.
>>
>>729367537
I thought the most recent release of Replicant was remade with Automata's gameplay.
>>
>>729371698
It's updated to be similar but not the same.
>>
Automata has better music, environments, and gameplay, but Replicant has better story and characters
>>
Draken -> Draken 3 -> Gestalt -> Tomatoes

only if you are a normie
>>

Even Yoko Taro and the other people on the dev team for the game admit it objectively isn't very good and a terrible game to get into the Drakengard/Nier series. It's still a very authentic and soulful game, but holy shit the controls and the camera are beyond fucked.
>>
Replicant = better characters
Automat = better everything else
>>
>>729373404
Eh, Nier is not super special without the first Drakengard. The setting of the world makes zero sense without it, for instance.
People play those games for the vibes, characters and lore and both Drakengard and Nier have that.
None never had AMAZING gameplay or world design.
>>
>>729368413
The story in Automata was ass

I kind of agree with your friend.
Automata is the technically better experience but personally I found Replicant to the more enjoyable one.
I wouldn't call Automata vague"slop" but I do feel that it does a much worse of a job explaining crucial elements of the story.
Replicant felt much more self contained, though it also did not explain some important things what exactly Black Scrawl is,
it feels like you get 90% of the information needed to figure out what is going on.
With Automata, half of the important characters don't even show up in the game because they are from a stage play or two,
while of the characters that do show up in the game half don't really do anything during the story but stand around while giving out a sidequest or two (Anemone and Commander).
It has been brought up in previous NieR threads, but it feels like Automata has way too many red herrings going on.
In Replicant you get one twist (which is predictable), and then another twist with Ending E
In Automata you get one twist (which is also predictable and basically spelled out), but then it just keeps twisting and twisting.

Ultimately, I would not have picked up Replicant without Automata and I wouldn't have enjoyed Automata as much if not for completing Replicant first.
Pic related is my favorite moment from Automata, it's kind of unexpected and it doesn't really mean anything if you haven't played Replicant.

nigga you just walk around and press the slash button, nothing is fucked about the controls or camera
