The greatest platformer of all time is British-made
>>
I played this on Gameboy but it was just too hard for me.

>British-made
Yeah, and it's Yooka-laylee
>>
>>729371387
just go back to level one and farm dozens of lives
>>

Replayee is actually pretty good and solves a lot of the issues of the first game. It's still not the best platformer ever but it's crossed the line into being respectable. The worlds still don't largely have strong enough theming, with the casino level being an exception. If more levels had the personality that the casino one did then the remaster would go from being a 7/10 to an 8.5/10.
But the original? Fuck no, and I enjoyed it more than a reasonable person could have. Way too much empty space in levels, and the unlocking gimmick(while fun in concept) means playing through a ridiculously empty world until you unlock the upgraded level, which is also still too empty but not as much so.
>>
>>729371702
I meant the original, it encourages you to explore the other levels too but "modern gamers" aren't up for that
>>
>>729371357
Too bad angloids aren't able to produce anything halfway decent now. They were on a roll back in the 80s and 90s.
>>
>>729371357
Does nobody play this game past the first world? The last half of the game is boring dog shit.
>>
>>729371357
I liked SMB3 better

Stickerbrush Symphony was mid. Yeah I said it.

Mining Melancholy is way better
>>
>>729372702
Agreed. Now Stickerbush Symphony on the other hand... Yeah that one is way better.

DKC2 is great, but going for 100% is really annoying, holy shit. I'm doing my first 100% run and I kinda regret it because it lowered my opinion on DKC2.
>>
>>729371357
I prefer the soundtrack and fast-paced horizontal levels in DKC1
>>
>>729376748
Just my personal opinion, but this is also why I prefer DKC1 to DKC2. The levels in DKC2 feel like they were designed around the hidden stages and bonuses. I don't like that at all. I prefer the bonuses and hidden states in DKC1, which were added after the levels were built. The same goes for the animal levels
>>
>>729376748
Really? I had a lot of fun exploring but back then I was a kid.
I guess I can see an adult "just wanting to get over it" becoming annoyed at all the secrets stumping their progress, but this game had some smartly-hidden secrets.

>>729378902
Most in DKC1 were too easy, a few do stand out and I think hiding a bonus inside a bonus was a mean move.

How do you go from Crocodile Isle to...Canada

>play dkc2
>love it, 10/10 game
>realize I'll have to look up where all the collectables are with a guide
>decide to skip going for 100% as a result
did I make a mistake? i hate looking shit up
>>
>>729381617
The first time I did it, I found most of the secrets on my own by just paying attention and using Cranky's hints. I think there was only two secrets I couldn't figure out and had to look it up.

Stickerbush. And fuck you, it’s great. Anyway forest interlude was better

Imagine a timeline where Rare didn't get bought out by microsoft.
>>
>>729385062
The Donkey Kong Country series is a masterpiece. Every game in the series is great, but things went downhill for Rare even without Microsoft. I didn't like GoldenEye 007 or Perfect Dark, I thought they were trash even back then. Star Fox Adventures is another garbage game that, for whatever reason, is beloved by a very dedicated fanbase. It was literally lightning in a bottle, and they couldn't recreate the moment.
>>
>>729371357
Is not?... Wait, rare is bri'ish?

A true 10/10.
Replayed the DKC trilogy a few months back, and it's crazy how much better DKC2 is than DKC1 and 3 -- which are already fantastic games.

1 feels kind of hollow, 3 has Kiddie Kong and feels just weird tonally.

>>
>>729394428
You wot? DKC wasn't the hardest platformer for the SNES, but you can't seriously say something like SMW or kirby were harder games.
>>
>>729372108
The first world is the least interesting in the entire game, what nonsense are you shitting out?
>>
>>729394536
>Yoshi Island
>Kirby Dream Land 3
>Batman & Robin
>Doremi Fantasy
>Magical Quest
>Adventure Island 2
>Super Ghouls'n Ghosts
>Plok
>etc etc
As expected, you have to keep this throwaway line to a vague "20 games are better than it!" because the moment you make a real list, it's extremely obvious that you're just delusional (or has a serious case of nostalgia goggles) if you think those are better than DKC2.
It's not even like I hate all those games, I can enjoy a 7/10 but they really aren't better.
