Why the name difference?
You know what would be funny, if the next Animal Crossing game has a rat NPC who celebrates Candle Day.
>>729374079Not funny
>>729373905In Japan Christmas has zero religious significance. Everywhere else where Christianity has a major foothold, it is done to avoid being secular.
>>729374079Funny
>>729375363>it is done to avoid being secular
>>729374079It'd be great if it had rats celebrating your birthday
>>729373905Its the true meaning of Christmas
>>729375491You know a menorah has nine candles, right?
>>729375363This is something I'll never understand. How does someone celebrating christmas dectract from others? If the game had Hanukkah or Ramadan or whatever as optional event, what do I stand to lose? Why is it so bad?Furthermore, even if we go with "Christmas is somehow offensive to non-Christians and shouldnt exist in games" train of thought, isnt it even MORE offensive to try to cheat the non-christians into engaging with Christmas (which they hate) by calling it by some other name? If someone said we're going to see a play but actually just tricked me into watching imam's muslim service, I'd be a lot more offended than if he just told me we're going to see imam's speech.
>>729373905Why are western companies so afraid of saying Christmas? We all know which particular holy day they're referring to when sending a message on December 25th. Why do they refuse to say the word when everyone else is wishing each other a Merry Christmas?
>>729375634You would know, JEW
>>729376279Fact is that Christian holidays have permeated the entire world's calendar. Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween (while Pagan in origin, was co-oped by Christianity), and Christmas are celebrated the world over, even in places that don't generally follow that religion. But in those places they just follow the commercialized versions with candy (sex), eggs (candy), candy, and presents. And by making the holidays non-secular no one can accuse Nintendo of being religious as they are only adding the commercialized versions to the game.
>>729376469>>729376279After digitalization and mass (social) media, societal selection pressures have started vastly favoring what you say over what you do. You can see this from politics to marketing to social interactions. A politician may say one thing and do another: while these have always existed, now they are vast majority and arguably the only way to survive, since someone who makes empty promises can always promise more than someone who intends those promises to be actionable. In marketing people trust (on average) social media persons promoting products more than specialists who know what they are talking about. In social interactions we're already past the line where there are "Voldemorts", words which cannot be uttered. And since someone may take offense to exclusive word such as (Christian holiday name), it is to be avoided. So in a nutshell: everyone knows its christmas, but our western cultural sphere has shifted in values. Since just uttering some words can be offensive, they are to be avoided, but actions themselves dont matter that much. Companies can double-dip into both christmas segment and anti-christmas segment WHILE collecting political brownie points by not calling it christmas.
>>729377128How about we just call it Hogswatch?
>>729376469https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz0quVV7kakEven muslim companies celebrate Christmas more than western ones. Only a small subset of people (preachy white w*men) think 'Christmas' is offensive but these small subset are the heads of marketing and PR for all of them.
Btw this is the same for Thanksgiving (named Turkey Day in the English version, Thanksgiving Day in the Japanese), and Easter (Bunny Day in the English, Easter in the Japanese)
>>729376279>If the game had Hanukkah or Ramadan or whatever as optional event, what do I stand to lose? Yeah, IF they did. It doesn't though.
>>729373905what a retarded name
>>729375491>>729375634>>729376557That’s a Kwanzaa thing
In the west Christmas is a Christan holidayIn Japan Christmas is a Western holidayIt's less that >Noooooo you can't say Christmas anymore reeeeAnd more like naming a restaurant something like>Nippon OshiiIn a non-Japanese speaking country which sounds pretty normal but naming it>English tastySounds weird as fuckYes they say Christmas in Japan but its more seen as a foreign holiday while in the West is just seen as a holiday.
