this is probably the most overhated game of 2025. gameplay and story wise it's the best AC game we've gotten since black flag. it's been constantly updated with meaningful gameplay updates (Unity like parkouring, improved stealth mechanics, hardest difficulty in any AC game) and it also looks absolutely gorgeous. I think this is one of those games that people will look back and positively reappraise once the toxic gaming politics clears up and gamers become objective once more

I don't base my opinions about a game based on its financial performance but on how the game actually plays. Anyway I played most of Shadows with Naoe but Yasuke has his uses - mainly for difficult boss fights where stealth isn't an option or to finish up clearing out a base after I disabled all the alarms and smaller enemies with Naoe and just have the big armored dudes left who Naoe can't assassinate in one shot. Plus his role in the story fits well although I would have liked him to have some personality besides being a goody two shows honorabru samurai.

In fact Naoe is the same way towards the latter half of the game but she has the revenge angle which makes her interesting in the first half. Later on in the game she basically becomes the same as Yasuke - just a goody two shoes trying to do le right thing and killing le bad guys who are exploiting le good innocent people of Japan. I still think it was the best story they had in years but it could have been so much better if they just took some risks.And gameplay wise idk what you mean by he is the "valhalla option". In Valhalla they tried to make the MC a jack of all trades in terms of stealth and combat and it just resulted in a watered down experience on both fronts. Maybe they could have cut the combat focused playstyle from Shadows but I actually liked being able to tap into that playstyle when it was done well. It's a nice break from going full stealth and in Yasuke's case is actually fucking badass with all his combat abilities and being able to literally sweep and toss aside smaller enemies. I have no complaints about the stealth and combat gameplay in Shadows honestly. It's the best part of the experience for sure.

Valhalla had the worst stealth of the entire nuAC series and the combat also felt generic and repetitive. Shadows fixed that by essentially adopting the soulslike style of combat (attack, block, parry, dodge) with abilities that recharge when you hit enemies. Abilities also have a lot of skill expression. You can hit and stun multiple enemies with certain abilities but you actually have to aim them correctly or lure enemies to bunch up. Certain abilities also allow you to reposition yourself or other enemies. It actually has a lot of depth but the issue is that on normal difficulty this all becomes moot because combat is braindead easy. Even on hard it wasn't particularly challenging. It's only on the more recent nightmare difficulty where you have to make full and correct use of your kit and abilities to actually win.

At one point, it was stale, but there's hardly an alternative for historic stealth assassin games. this is why I saw yasuke as such a weird choice. the gameplay style most players were getting sick of is entirely attached to a character they already knew was controversial. hence why I said cutting him was probably the move. let's see how tencent handles it, cause this game, outlaws and skullsbones literally gutted this company
