Is this worth playing or is it just cheap jumpscares all the time?
>>
I played one hour of it. it's a watered down RE4.
>>
jumpscares are a part of horror
>>
>>729379095
its a horror game in same way as resident evil, there is like 2 jumpscares in the whole game

There's like, maybe 2 or 3 jump scares the entire game. It's basically RE4 without all the athletic side that Leon brings. Great game.

Think Silent Hill 2 combined The Matrix then drench it in Resident Evil 4 and that's basically The Evil Within.

>How much RE4 though?
The entire game minus the athletic shit like I said, you even have a shop / merchant system with the nurse and the chair.

>How much Silent Hill 2?
The enemies, lore and bosses. Every enemy and boss is meant to be symbolic of something emotional and psychological.

>Why the Matrix?
The entire concept of the game is literally "What if the Matrix but horror", I won't say more than that.

>Great game.
>Think Silent Hill 2 combined The Matrix
figuratively spit my coffee out when I read that.
>>
>>729380447
Where am I wrong though?

Just like Silent Hill 2, every enemy and boss is literally physically designed in a way to symbolize a memory, or a feeling, or a psychological illness like multiple personality disorder, as an example (the AlterEgo enemy).

As for the Matrix part, yes, literally. The game is about a guy who has no idea he's in a simulation until way later on in the game, the only difference is that it's not entirely a digital simulation, it's both tech + Ruvik's brain. They kinda go even further with this in TEW2 where Mobius uses STEM to create an entire simulated town.
>>
It was alright
>>
It's a watered down RE 4, if you want a decent RE 4 clone you can try alan wake or dead space
>>
>Other anon said the exact same thing already
Oh wow, well the recommendations still stand. This game also has one of the more annoying tutorials/start with you limping and all.
>>
>>729379187
based and true
>>
Its ok, having to go through the streamer bait beginning everytime is grating
>>
>>729379095
it's jumpscare slop. I wouldn't play it
>>
Its worth it especially since it's probably cheap as shit right now. Last time I played I had to fuck with the resolution just to get the game to the main menu but once it runs its fun. I think TEW2 is much better but you need to play Part 1 of course.
>>
it does the chaotic nature of the disjointedness of being in a dream really well, represented by being flung into different scenarios constantly and suddenly. that element sorta gets lost in EW2 cause it required a more structured narrative.
>>
Juli DLCs > EW1 > EW2

So yes you should play 1 just to play the dlcs after
>>
>>729379095
No. It's pretty good.
>>
>>729379095
actually has soul unlike all the re remake slop
>>
>>729381589
yeah, I played it for the first time this October and dropped it for a week in the first chapter before it became a game
thankfully it's not a hide in the closet simulator for the rest of it
>>
>>729379095
it's worth playing but if you are on pc just understand that the steam version isn't the same as the epic store/microsoft store version in some small ways and for the steam version there's like 2 parts of the game where 60fps has a chance to break something + increased damage taken from enemy grabs
100% you should play it till at least chapter 3 because that's when the game actually starts and the training wheels come off

>isn't the same as the epic store/microsoft store version in some small ways and for the steam version there's like 2 parts of the game where 60fps has a chance to break something + increased damage taken from enemy grabs
The framerate problems are still present in the Epic/MS store version as far as I'm aware. Any performance fix they supposedly did may as well be placebo when I briefly had gamepass to check it out.
Every other change they did is worthless.
1) Add a dogshit first person mode where your body and level geometry clips into the camera.
2) Change the default sprint limit to 5 seconds instead of 3 which is fucking worthless because sprinting at all is worthless in TEW1 and upgrading it a beginner's trap like upgrading melee damage or the critical chance of the sniper rifle.
3) Minor miscellaneous options.
That being said, the E-MS, and the GOG version come with the pre-order DLC. which is a terrible waste of money. a double barrel shotgun that cannot be upgraded and it's like 1.5x stronger than the default shotgun at the start that also fires 2 shells no matter what. And two AOE crossbow bolts that are just not worth using
If somebody is desperate to try its content out, I guess it's worth a pirate.

first game is bad, very clunky, stupid plot, unfinished, bad combat
budget clone of re4

second game is ok, good story, combat is ok, but feels a bit rushed
second game i what first one should have been
>>

>the end game swap between Seabass and Kidman
Pure kino
>>
it's a stylish RE4 with a high test protag
>>
>>729389480
??? RE 4 has a high test protag
>>
>>729379095
good games. first has good pacing despite the having the worst possible intro it could have

i respect the second for trying something new. a semi open-world horror game is unique
>>
it's pretty cool, played both games. Both have creepy moments and atmosphere
>>
>>729388687
>bad combat
It's combat is better than 2. It's focus on crowd control with the fire and using environmental traps or objects against the enemy makes it more interesting than 2. Which either deemphasized or outright dropped some of those aspects like the matches and fire, even if it had a plot reason for doing that.

>first game is bad, very clunky, stupid plot, unfinished, bad combat
It is significantly better than 2. Better area design, better enemy design, the match system is easily one of the best features that is frustrating to lose, the locations are more interesting than Sterile Hallway #52 or Generic Suburbia #4. It also forces you to stealth kill a lot instead of just running about blasting. Akumu on 1 and Classic on 2 will really show you the flaws of each game, and 2 especially has so many flaws in general.
>>
>>729379095
it ain't RE4, that's for sure.
but if you like third-person horror shooters like that, then it's enjoyable enough.
>>
>>729379187
Cringe and untrue

whenever a stupid vigger says this about a game you should expect a good video game, unless you are a stupid vigger yourself
>>
>>729379095
I genuinely, sincerely, unironically, literally, actually, absolutely and honestly enjoyed the first game.
>>

Being startled isn't the same as being scared
