>>729387230The main issue is that despite DQ7 having the longest script in a video game they forgot to give more than 2 personality traits to each character besides the one that fucks off forever. Dragon quest will always have the silent protag but DQ4, 5 and 8 run circles around 7 in terms of likable and interesting casts. This lack of character makes the slow melodramatic island stories painful along with the often stupid progress flags which often makes you backtrack over the same few screens or meticulously talk to everyone in town just for something to happen.
