Honest opinion of Super Paper Mario?

Better than the thousand year bore

The start of the end of Paper Mario

The last good Paper Mario.

It is pretty good overall. It has a good story and decent gameplay. It has fun moments that fit into the universe of the previous 2 Paper Mario games, so it feels right at home.
I have seen people dress up as Super Paper Mario characters at local conventions. I find that really interesting. It makes me wonder if its more popular than its given credit for.
I also think it also unfairly is scapegoated for ruining the Paper Mario franchise early on, when in reality I think that blame should be attributed to Sticker Star's success.
>>
Dogshit gameplay.
>>
>>729382451
>>729382497
Both of these. It's the start of the downfall but it's still leagues better than everything that came out afterward.
>>
Objectively the last good Paper Mario before the Sticker Star Trilogy fucked it all up. PM64 and TTYD hardcore fans can fuck off into their own bubble.

I don't consider it ba bad game and I've enjoyed my multiple playthroughs of it, but it's incredibly easy. The music and enviroments are amazing, but I feel like they could have done way more with the flipping mechanics and the bosses, while cool in some cases like Chapter 4's Brobot, can be killed in seconds.
Which is a shame too because Brobot has one of the best boss themes in the game and you will never be able to hear it.
>>
>>729381448
It's not a fun or well designed game and even the story is overrated. This is where Paper Mario died.
>>
>>729381448
I love going on image boards and talking about games I've never played.
>>
>>729384353
couldent have said it better myself honestly

same shes is my favorite paper mario girl
>>
>>729381448
complete shit
PM has to be the tendie record for turning an okay ip into absolute garbage so fast
>>
Charming but it was too easy, I remember being a little disappointed with it bitd. I even did the secret dungeon that was too easy with bowser.
>>
>mario is a platformer
>paper mario is an rpg spin-off
>turn spin-off rpg into a platformer that's mechanically worse than basically every existing mario platformer
>>
>>729381448
I wish the game had a hard mode.
>>
>>729381448
2007-tier writting
>>
what it lacks in gameplay it makes up for in weirdness and devestation
>>
>>729381448
I wish mario was still willing to do wierd shit, its so sanitized now. Also I wish the gameplay was good.
>>
>>729387743
it's just an rpg set in the really cute mario world
>>
>>729381448
The hate it gets is incomprehensible to me
>>
>>729381448
>deviantart-tier story, seems like it was written by westerners rather than Japs
>zero exploration
>Luigi makes the bland platformer segments even easier and the final boss dies in five hits from Bowser
Origami King was better than this garbage
>>

This stands out to me. The leet-speaking nerd chapter in particular always gets brought up, and has not aged well.
I would say that the problem of "LOL so ran-DUMB" writing actually began in TTYD, but that was when the series still had a higher solid-gameplay-to-lame-gimmick ratio to carry it.
I remember enjoying SPM on the whole but not enough to play it again.

It's an absolutely dogshit "platformer" that heavily recycles assets with subpar level design resulting from trying to utilize the flip gimmick (the instant any environment goes 3D, it's barebones as fuck) with an absolutely laughable attempt at a 2D combat system utilizing small creatures that are glorified Mario staple mechanics (wow, the ability to toss a hammer and use a bomb) all cobbled together with a garbage fanfiction tier plot involving a generic tragic villain in love and a predictable lackey twist. Nearly all the criticism the nu-Paper garbage gets can be applied to Super.

You could say the art direction is "distinctive", but that's just a nice way of saying it's fucking ugly. You can tell when something originated in Super. Just look at this piece of shit.
>>
It was a bad platformer and the story didnt make up for that.
But we accepted it because we knew it was a spinoff based on the bowser sections of TTYD to pad the wii's launch library while they were working on a real return to form.
How foolish we were to expect things to return to normal

I'll never understand the people who defend it. From a gameplay standpoint, it's bad. It plays like a crappy fangame you'd find somewhere. None of the characters have any weight to them, platforming is super basic, bosses are a joke. As for the writing, that's bad too. It has the same problem Color Splash and Origami King have where every other line tries to be a joke.
>haha isn't this tedious and not fun haha video games amirite 4th wall Mario reference roll
A character acknowledging that a chapter is boring and tedious doesn't make the chapter not boring and tedious. It's also not funny.

i don't mind the digital aesthetic of the enemies considering that was the theme that time around like flipping or swapping characters is highlighting the character with a mouse cursor, but yeah i do not understand why the koopa strikers look like that
>beady eyes no other PM koopa has
>disgusting different head shake compared to the nose
i get they probably wanted to do something to change it from the standard koopa design but this wasn't the way to do it.

>>729391241
i didn't read all that but i would plap nastasia

Fun. Reminds me a lot of the monster boy/wonder boy games.
I still don't get why Nintendo never tried SPM style gameplay with Sticker Star and later games. Those games were more focused on being adventure games with puzzle solving and exploration. Sticker Star had no reason to be a turn based rpg. An action RPG platformer makes more sense for that style.
>>
>>729381448
More of a weird experimental art project than a video game
It's better appreciated than played

>I still don't get why Nintendo never tried SPM style gameplay with Sticker Star and later games
Because they knew it sucked

Saying this when we're talking about sticker star? 555-COME-ON-NOW

Right right middle middle middle right right left...

It would have been more popular if it had gotten released on the Cube like it was supposed to.

I wish we lived in a timeline where the PM64/TTYD gameplay style never died out.
That way, we would've kept that AND we'd live in a timeline where SPM is rightfully called out as a piece of shit that people only like because it has "muh feels".
A trash game being better than literal dogshit does not a good game make.
>>
>>729382797
In a universe where the 64 gameplay style stuck, we'd be looking at SPM in the same way we do Sticker Star and Color Splash now.
