If I could go back in time I would use the opportunity to tell thirteen-year-old me to start with Ableton or Logic Pro instead of FL Studio. I hate FL so goddamn much especially now that it's a dead end because they're cramming in AI chord maker criminal nigger rap shit instead of allowing more than 10 FX slots or adding a "non-loop" mode where every pattern clip is unique like every other DAW.

You can get pretty far with just FLEX and downloading free soundfonts or sample packs online, so id start with getting familliar with whatever you have available now.

for a real answer to your question, serum 2. but it also depends on what genres you are trying to make

Serum is the best synthesizer for beginners since it visually shows you how your changes affect the sound. Its also very powerful so you can use it for every project no matter the genre.
Nexus used to be mandatory but as >>729389212 says you can use FLEX as your default sampler.
Also, I would recommend you download at least Vengeance Club Sounds 3 from >>729392279. Depending of who you used to listen in the 2010s, you'll realize those samples were fucking everywhere and the drums are really good to this day.

If you don't know shit about music theory, learning will always help, but its not mandatory for using a DAW if you just want to make EDM or VGM.
What you need to learn 100% is music production. How to use a synth, how to mix and EQ your instruments so the final product doesn't sound like shit. There's endless info in youtube but for every hour you spent watching shit you need to invest another one practicing, otherwise it will be useless.
Producing more tracks is better than spending months into the "perfect track". You won't get better until you finish whole tracks, evaluate them, and then you start all over again.

Like any tool a DAW needs to be messed with till you find a tool-chain / workflow that gets you what you want. Sometimes its non-conventional setups in the end that create the most interesting soundscapes.

Ableton/Logic have consistent tutorial based workflows that make it easier to understand how to get from empty project to something decent while FLStudio gives you a ton of knobs and options with no real direction on what to do. They are giving out free project files still so use those to learn how others setup a workflow and try it out.

But the best vidya music is consistently Japanese?
>m-m-muh generic orchestral slop

How do I git gud at mixing/mastering bros?
>>

Because poor imitations of great European composers played by technically competent but soulless bug musicians is still better than modern Western esgslop
The best vidya music may be Japanese, but the best music sure isn't

Of course it's not all Japanese, but I really think enka note/chord progressions are a big part of the fun in Japanese game music. Splatoon 3 tracks are a good example of OSTs that borrow from that genre.
