can someone explain to me why prebuilts and laptops haven't gone up in price even though ram costs more than an entire pc now? is laptop gaming finally accessible? or should i wait for the steam machine
>>
Nigga is going to wait for a steam prebuilt that is weaker than a PS5 lmao
>>
>>729412263
Its their existing inventory.
If you don't buy something now -
Youre fucked.
>>
>>729412662
This.

However, I think people with big steam libraries will get a lot of benefit from it tho.

do you want to know who else wonders why prebuilts and laptops haven't gone up in price even though ram costs more than an entire pc now

I have a laptop. You don't want a gamer laptop.
>>
>>729413276
Your mom?
>>
>>729413258
What i mean is they will get rid of their existing inventory at the regular price. New inventory will reflect ram and ssd price rises.
If you don't buy a pc now, for say, 2100$, when they rotate stocks and models the price will be 3100$+. Its just how these things work.
Buy now, or regret it until our economy inevitably explodes.
Steam box will never come to fruition with their initial goal being affordable steam gaming. Either that, or it will come to fruition and only have 4gb of ram and not be able to play anything.
>>
>>729413386
No. Me. I'm wondering it too.
>>
Where does OpenAI even get all the money to buy this stuff? They don't even have any profits yet
>>
>>729413503
Mostly the united states government, and banks.
Its all funny money.
Our entire economy is funny monopoly money.

Read the fine print, ram went up but more so on the higher end, your ddr3 8 gb are going to be okay-ish for now.

I predict that Steam Machines will dominate PC gaming, not because they will be the best option, but because they will be the only option most people will be able to afford.
>>
>>729412263
They bought those parts 4 years ago.
>>
>>729413738
But any other business would raise their prices now instead of selling their existing inventory for less than it's worth.
>>
>>729413552
The banks are literally not giving them a cent since they have nothing they want to put up as collateral, anon. This is all-natural Silicon Valley line-go-up derangement.
>>
For anons on the fence, Costco has some killer prebuilt deals from manufacturers like MSI.
5080
9900x
2tb ssd
32 to 64gb ram
2100-2500$.
Buy now or regret.
This is your chance to build or buy Noah's Ark.
You need and want a pc that will last you 5 years.
Either until all this blows over (it wont) or until you starve to death (more likely)
But the key takeaway is this is the death of affordable computing with at home hardware.
They want you to subscribe to the cloud services.
Youre easier to track, and control.
Computers will still be for sale - but more akin to a new car for prices.
This may be the first time in technology that computer prices for your used parts appreciate in value.
Tldr - computers will be 29k in 8 to 10 years.

I would choose a weaker pc over a console every single day of my life just to be free of corporate shackles like paying for online
>>
>>729413904
And im rather pay a few bucks a month to not play with third worlders and hackers, but enjoy spending trying to beat Ivan and Chang with aimlock program
>>
>>729414061
Why not both lol
I've got a ps5 pro and a 5080 rig
>>
>>729414106
PC is only for some older PC centric games, multiplayer is better on consoles just for the less frequency of hackers and third worlders with three digit pings
>>
>>729414061
Good games let you play on community-hosted servers like god intended. Corporate matchmaking is a special kind of hell.
>>
>>729414649
community servers can bring their own problems like tranny janny power tripping mods and changes to gameplay that worsen it
>>
>>729414995
you decide which servers you join. it's a concept that matchmaking cucks will barely ever comprehend.
>>
>>729415945
Finding a good server is like trying to find a needle in a haystack
>>
>>729413440
You know who else is wondering it too?

MY MOM!
>>
>>729413738
so what

if you bought gold 10 years ago that doesnt mean it isnt worth 4k an oz now
>>
>>729413503
You....you dont understand a damn thing about how much info they are taking from us while we are using AI. Not to mention that kind of technology is OP AF.

Thats enough for them to invest without hesitation.
>>
>>729412263
It's because the RAM shortage is deliberate and manufactured. It's price fixing again. Stop seething at AI for 2 seconds and think about this logically.
>>
>>729418008
I'm not making this as pure speculation btw.
How would you characterize this kind of statement?

>>
>>729413503
Investors put money on AI research and ai research requires use of RAM so investors put money on RAM actions too because AI research needs to buy RAM too and supposedly this is stonks for the investors
and it's a vicious loop that got us in this ai bubble a few years ago
>>
>>729412263
Newer latpops are going to go back to old smaller ram sizes, we're still working through the backlog of unsold laptops with up to date RAM sizes.
>>
>>729418412
Yeah, for 2-3 years at most.
The real news should be that the memory manufacturers think the bubble won't last 5 years so they're fine making a fuck ton of profit off of this.
>>
This is worse than when there was that semi-conductor shortage a couple of years ago, right?
>>
>>729412263
Boomers still fear the prebuilts and will still buy ram at existing prices to build their PC
>>
>>729419334
Think about it like this. RAM manufacturers were worried about RAM oversupply just some time ago. That should give the game away, but some people are really fucking stupid about their RAM panic.
RAM manufacturers were offered long-term contracts to offset this "oversupply" issue. They refused supply contracts because it would hamper their ability to increase prices.

Now they hike prices and refuse to increase supply. There's so many dots to connect and any pair of them tell the same story. Don't buy the RAM manufacturer lies. Two companies can theoretically form a cartel that controls 70% of global supply. The ingredients are all there from the get-go.

Let's be fair though. The RAM manufacturers have one honest out in the whole equation. They're worried the AI bubble pops and there's massive oversupply of RAM if they start producing.

>This retarded nigger thinks third worlders don't have consoles
LMAOOO
>>
>>729416710
>You get the freedom to do as you choose
>Y-yeah but what if you choose wrong?!???
Are you retarded?
>>
>>729413503
it's your money anon
>>
>>729419334
It's quite literally a non-issue. RAM isn't as hard to make as VRAM or GPUs. The problem is that manufacturers are worried that AI companies bought a shitton of hardware. Hell, a shitton is an understatement, they went crazy with it. And if AI is a bubble and it pops, manufacturers would have overproduced hardware when dirt cheap top of the line hardware is going to flood the entire planet.

Prices will go back to normal when the AI bubble doesn't pop and supply starts following consumer demand
>>
>>729413293
Yes you do! You simply bought the wrong gaming laptop. That's all.
>>
>>729412263
Do you know who else is also waiting for the Steam Machine?
