If the narrative chose Pyra then that would be proof that Mythra was right. Mythra really shouldn't exist. And she would be sandblasted away for Pyra. She was only made as a dumpster for Mythra's grief and now that her role is fulfilled, she can just die without ever being genuinely happy. So if you're Takahashi and you love both these characters: what do you do? Save them both.

Making it so that the ending literally has no weight because Pyra/Mythra just reappear like 5 minutes after the core crystal pops out of his chest and then having Nia push Rex towards him makes all of that strike so much less strongly because you can tell that everything after came specifically due to the fans connecting far more with Nia than they did with Pyra/Mythra. They added a main menu screen with Nia showing up to hold hands with them, and then this happened, which just seems so incredibly unnecessary. It's there to pander, nothing more, thus making it bad in terms of storytelling, because at that point, the fans, those being outside of the creative process, influenced the strokes of the author's pen. The people who taut this as some kind of "own" or "diss" or whatever just seem like people who weren't even invested in Xenoblade as a story, and just wanted to post something that they thought would "piss off" the libtards.
