I want to get into Wizardry. Is the gacha game good or should I stick to older games?

Then you can take your save from 3 and move over to 5 on New Age of Llygamyn. I haven't played any of the Dark Savant trilogy (6-8) yet, but so far I'd say Wiz 5 was the best. If anything, I think a good starter Wizardry game for someone who refuses to start with a port of Wizardry 1 would be Wizardry Gaiden on Gameboy. Good maps that aren't too ball busting overall, and it seems like even late game, you just flat out aren't getting fucked as hard on bad dice rolls. The floors are also just a bit smaller at 16x16.

The floors are much more complex than the first which is nice because that game fell off about halfway through, it felt like they just gave up on floors 6-10.

The base system in the first three games is fantastic overall, but the floors in Wiz 1 feel a bit meandering without much context or content after those first five floors. They needed some more puzzles, I think. Wiz 2 is pretty great, but that last puzzle is kinda killer and more people have guessed the solution than figured it out, I would imagine. Wiz 3 is pretty great overall but the initial grind at the beginning to get your characters to level 2 or higher can be quite rough without much money for gear. Emulate the ps1 games. Best art, some qol features like map completion, and compilations of the games where you can bring your party through the save files.
>>729424413Cool thing about these ports too is that they're import friendly if you care about that sort of thing since English is included on disc, and you can strip away the graphics and/or automap if you so choose as well to have something closer to the original experience if you'd like. I always like it when rereleases of games give you that sort of choice.
