Showa and Heisei eras were similar, it was really the aftermath of 1998 and the Millennium era (in which Japan decided to take its ball and do absolutely nothing worthwhile with it) that did serious damage to the Godzilla franchise.As much as I dislike where the Legendary Godzilla series eventually led, 2014 undid the damage that Japan thought 1998 did and revived the franchise. But in my opinion there was never anything wrong with 1998 to begin with, Japan just couldn't handle the fact Hollywood does what Hollywood does.
