I'd prefer a slower more methodical game, you know like more Demon's Souls type speed, or the older AC titles.But it seems most of the games like this are really old and you have to emulate them, but I think the Keyboard/Mouse controls are superior to controller for mech games where you do a lot of shooting like this. So playing the old AC games is frustrating because on one hand its exactly what I want in terms of pacing and methodical gameplay, but the controls and it just being a 20~30 year old game you have to emulate sucks. >>7294247010080 is a decent place to start because you don't need to know anything about Gundam to appreciate it, its short so not much of a time commitment, the animation isn't ancient or bad, and its a well told story, one of the best, and it'll get you familiar with the primary timeline, the Universal Century.That said, if you enjoy it and want to then experience the rest of the franchise you can't get around having to watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam which comes in two flavors the 43 episodes TV series or the 3 compilation movies. Now the Canon version is the compilation movies, that's the version later entries of the series use for continuity purposes, so if the two versions disagree on an event it'll be the movies that for example Zeta Gundam will use over the TV series version, but the TV series is the original and has many things the movies cut out for time, which are still considered Canon, the movies touch up the roughest animation but its mostly recycled footage, like 80% of the footages is just the TV series again recut into a shorter format, as the original series was plagued with production issues and the quality was inconsistent and the movies addressed that by reanimating a few scenes, but they also alter some events for time, but its impossible to condense 43 episodes into 3 movies and get everything, so just know if you only watch the movies you'll have gaps.After that you have Zeta Gundam which also has a TV series this time with 50 episodes and 3 compilation movies but those are a different beast, they change the ending and are more of a companion piece than a replacement, none of the subsequent series will use the Zeta movies for continuity purposes, its the TV series here which is canon.Then you have ZZ Gundam which is just another 50 TV series, no movies, then Char's Counterattack which is just a movie. After CCA you can pretty much watch the rest of the franchise in whatever order you wish without being too lost or confused.

There are a lot of parts and weapons but so far it feels like there are some that are clearly better than others, but if you want to stick to a certain look in lieu of efficiency you can. Remember how before VI came out people were speculating about "armored souls"? That's kind of what this is. You have customization and old gen-like mecha gameplay but you navigate through a large world like in dark souls, although I'd say the portals to different hubs makes the layout more like Demon's Souls. You unlock a lot of parts just by finding them but the store in the hub zone has them too. One thing that causes some friction between the two genres is that your weapons and parts are upgradeable like using shards in Dark Souls which makes you overcommit to particular piece of equipment in a game that should allow more freedom and experimentation (not that the parts are that balanced to begin with) and there is a shared ammo pool based on a points system that also kind of encourages you to pick the most "economical" option so certain builds feel less worth it.What the game does really well is the verticality in the maps that let you boost up and down the structures.
