Saying this game gets good once you start going for high ranks is like saying DMC2 gets good once you start going for high ranks. Having arcade philosophies does not excuse cheap "gotcha" moments that stem from a camera that isn't zoomed out enough or bosses that guarantee at least one death as the player is given zero indication on how to beat them.
Honestly it isn't good, I just have nostalgia for it because I was unfortunate enough to be on the 10 at most kids in the world unlucky enough to have gotten the sega saturn for Christmas.

If they structured the game around the link system properly I reckon it would be a lot more fun but as it is unless you have perfect input/foresight you can't reasonably keep links up for extended periods.

You don't even HAVE to get good, you can literally just grind the points, the only thing you have to measure is whether you have time to make another pass.
