I know everyone sucks off this game for the gun play, well aged graphics and level design but for me, it's the story. >military contractor doing secret, spooky human experiments >exposition is gradual and instead of interrupting flow of gameplay w/ cutscenes, it's woven into it (voicemails, emails from laptops, voice com)>story never feels like it's taking itself too seriously despite the dark themes>excellent voice actingWe just don't see this in singleplayer FPS games anymore
It's a terrific game firing on all cylinders.
She's coming....to GET you!
Real shame how it all turned out but it was a good showing.
Nobody likes FEAR for the level design.
>>729424840You can't like it without liking the level design, I think. It's all part of a whole.
>>729424840the levels are fun and enable the AI to seem smart by doing call outs and flanking. its just all set in boring gray offices from beginning to end.
>>729425014Cramped grey corridors and boxes for hours on end, hardly inspired stuff.
>>729424840You're thinking of visual design. It's the one lackluster part of the game because of all the office halls and grey corridors, with only the lighting helping keep it interesting- something one of the expansions forgot to do properly so you enter wide open street areas that look worse than Source engine stuff. LEVEL design works into always corralling players down the proper path of progression without completely feeling like it's shitting on you for it, while allowing enemies to do what they do best by maneuvering and flanking through it to attack the player.
>>729424210man multiplayer in this game was pure perfection, especially against people who understood the mechanicsi tried to play it again over teh christmas break and its essentially impossible, crazy because you can still play wolfenstein enemy territory no problem w real people
>>729425083Except the courtyards.Except the sewage systems.Except the derelict hotel.Except the secret lab with huge open rooms.
>>729424210Perfect balance of shootan, story, and spook. Trepang is the closest anyone else has gotten
>>729424368Roll 1d20 to throw the ouija board at her
>>729424368
>>729424210>storyYes, I like shooting my loli mother and my cannibal brother while finding my dad who's my grandfather and gets melted by his daughter
>>729425109Eh, they're just obstacle courses to show off the gunfighting, nothing more. They work fine for what they are. It could use more variety in the scenery but in terms of being fun to fight over they did a good job.
Fear 3 was legit the only game I ever played and remembered zero things about and not even exaggerating, it went through one ear and out the other because it was so blandthe only thing I remember was the wall you ran from in MP that was cool I guess
>>729426142fot me that's 2, 3 is full of so much dumb shit that I'll always remember for all the wrong reasons.
>tfw never played any of the sequels, not even the expansions for the first oneonly good memories for me
>>729426484I believe Extraction Point is considered a solid followup and conclusion
>>729424210>I know everyone sucks off this game for the gun play, well aged graphics and level design but for me, it's the story. Also the AI was a big deal at the time. I thought it and extraction point were great but that the series had an immediate fall off after, but maybe I should re-play them and see.
>>729424210I liked the story. It's a tragedy where glowie niggers forcibly impregnate a little girl and she eventually gets revenge as a psychic ghost creature thing with her son and an army of clones and just goes absolutely apeshit on the world. And there's some campy shit with the point man being fettel's brother but it's still cool to me, and there's a lot of human moments, and eeriness in it, it just works well. I really like it, man. Game looks cool, it feels good, the music is great, the story is isn't amazing but it pulled me in, a lot of fun stuff and by the end of it all you feel a bit of empathy for almost everyoen involved and wonder what's going to happen to the world as that mushroom cloud goes up.
>>729426573The beginning of extraction point is peak atmosphere with all the replica soldiers just standing around like marionette puppets
>>729424368oh my GOD
> the artifical intelligence in fear's enemies was so advanced MIT hosted a presentation on it.
