HROT was the best shooter since Blood, let that sink in. The only ones that came close were Dusk and Cultic but both fall short for reasons I won't elaborate. Why is the genre so stale rn?

It's not even hard to do that. Fucking morons think anything is impressive when shovelware bargain bin games did the same thing back in the early 2000s. I honestly don't give a shit if it's running on godot, unity or unreal at all because the important part is just making a good game. Perhaps it might matter for building a good modding platform but the same thing is likely achievable on those engines too.

Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking this dev because i did play Legie back in the day but jesus christ just shut up you pretentious queer. You sound like those idiots like Phil Fish and Johnathan Blow that pretended everything they did with coding was magical.

You've mistaken why people are using these very engines in the first place. Why did so many engines exist on lots of games early 2000s PC games? why were self made engines so easily disposable for any small project? generally because these games were not going to consoles or even mobiles and were stuck on one platform. It might be considered 'old school' now but it being an older method doesn't necessarily equate to effort or skill. Most of these indie devs know they can't get by without porting their shit everywhere. Misunderstanding of everything and not understanding convenience.

Nightmare Reaper is fun at first but around chapter 3 it kind of starts going to shit and by chapter 4 it just kind of goes to shit. A lot of it has to do with the kind of bullshit enemies introduced later on. It feels like it becomes less about dodging projectiles and attacks and more about just trying to be able to grab health as quick as possible to tank your way through nearly unavoidable attacks. Also the later weapon room obstacle courses can be absolute fucking bullshit.
