Racist bros... which Gran Turismo is better? I only played 1 and 2 in my youth and want to try out 3 and 4.
>>
GT4 is the better game, mostly by being less frustrating in the early game.

GT3 is probably a better experience later on (since GT4's endgame feels long in the tooth) but the beginning is a slog due to low payouts and shit prize cars.

I do feel like GT4 is slightly more dull than GT3, though. GT3 was the last time Gran Turismo had racing opponents that actually felt good to race up until the advent of GT Sophy. The AI got worse in later games (particularly when 6 arrived) but I feel like the downward slide began with 4.
>>
>>729439046
GT4 has more cars, tracks and events, but 3 imo is just a better fun. The last true GT where they still focused on the atmosphere rather than trying for a more realistic look, which made 4 seem sterile in comparison. You can see this in the track design/lightning, UI redesign and how menus were laid out
>>
I like 3 more because the savefile didn't corrupt at all compared to the 3 times it did when I was playing GT4
>>
enthusia has better gameplay than all of the first 4 gran turismo games but it's ruined by the abhorrently designed career mode that actively punishes you for wanting to play the way you want
>>
>>729441321

>>

GT3 loses on test course alone, but realistically play both
>>
>>729439046
What's the recommendation if the only racist games I've played are Gran Turismo on the PSP, and BeamNG.drive? 400 hours on the PSP and 200 on beamnigger (pc+controller)
>>
>>729442616
What are you looking for? Shitboxes? Supercars? Engaging career mode? Mod community? GT professional racing or rallies? Multiplayer? A fun arcade maybe?
>>
>>729442747
Just to get into racing games. These days all I do tune engines in Automation, export to beam and drive around for a few minutes before heading over to notepad to edit the handling and stuff. Some kind of career mode with progression sounds nice. I do like the triphy truck that beam has, but I suck dicks at rally and things like that. No wheel.
>>
>>729442947
Automobilista 2 has a demo, you can try it and check if you like the handling. No career mode, it's a promised feature right now.
Asseto Corsa Evo is looking good but I didn't play any games in the series.
I find Forza Motorsports 4 quite comfy, you can emulate it.
>>
>>729443381
Thanks anon, I'll check them out.
>>
>>729441321
never pllayed it, is it good? some people say it has more realistic physics than gran turismo, even more relaistic than recent gran turismos
>>
>>
>>729443439
On top of that, you can check some youtube channel specialized on racing games and check its video list for a QRD on the topic. It works better than you could expect.

>>729443503
yeah, the physics model is pretty accurate, the tracks are a fun and nice mix between imaginary and real (but mostly imaginary), the car selection is 10/10 and the features on the cars are pretty amazing, like the automatic transmissions are actually modelled properly with torque converters instead of just having the computer select your manual gears for you, like in a lot of other games - as a side note, i recently played NFS rivals and i believe that game does it right as well. enthusia is easily the most realistic racing simulator on the PS2

the career mode is the main thing you'll play but it's also the biggest downside. it's not like GT where you manually upgrade your car as you please and pick and choose races until you move up through the categories with any car you want until you get to the end and win, no. it's very different. basically, you start off with a slow car and you earn automatic upgrades via xp in races and the entire point is to win the final race of the calendar, but you have to win certain races to get there and those certain races only appear on certain days of the calendar, so you have to prepare ahead of time to race in them before they appear. you can actually go backwards in progress if you pick a car that's too fast, if you don't finish well in a race or even if you hit too many things. even if you win the race you can still lose progress. the game encourages you to use the slowest possible cars and you have to sort of grind out races to kill time for the important races to appear

it doesn't sound too bad but when you actually play it, it quickly becomes pretty frustrating which is a shame because it's a damn near perfect driving experience
>>
>>729445047
i'm just gonna post some more pics of the game because i think it's absolutely gorgeous and is within the gold standard of the graphical aesthetic of what a racing game that isn't a hardcore sim should look like

both are good for different reasons.
>gt3
3 has a lot of soul. it doesnt have the largest car or course selection but its the last one before polyphony drank the laserscanned track koolaid, and what it does have is the cream of the crop in terms of car choices and original tracks. its also a real carpg, you're going to be spending lots of time early game with a few cars since rewards are so low for early races, this is either a positive or a negative depending on how you feel about carpg
>gt4
an incredible amount of cars and tracks for a ps2 game. as mentioned above, gt4 is when polyphony started drinkin the photorealism/simracing koolaid so you go from having 80% of the gt3 tracks being originals to about 50% being originals in gt4 with the other 50% being boring licensed race tracks. theres way more cars in gt4 but a lot of them are pretty much clones. the graphics also got the color sucked out of them so everything ends up looking a bit washed out compared to gt3. its still fun and has a lot of content but i definitely go back to gt3 more
>>
>>729439046
I feel like the tires in 4 had far too little grip. Am I the only one?
>>
>>729445326
another frustrating thing is that the game was rushed to release so it doesn't have as much features as it should. even the intro cinematic was meant to be the beginning of a proper story but that was cut out
>>
Does 3 have mods/revisions like 4's Spec-II?
>>
>>729445495
>>
>>729445597
the tracks that are set in cities in germany, northern italy and japan are just beautiful
>>
>>729445856
and each track gets its own unique song that plays every time. i don't think there's a bad one among them. there's a lovely atmosphere that japanese games had from this time, where it blends modern cosmopolitanism and classic tastes. it's just a shame they put so much effort into all of these amazing details but completely missed out on making the game actually fun for the average player. they were penny wise but pound foolish

Enthusiasa is the sim I chose to start with a few years ago. I have 100% of the cars in free play but I genuinely hate the track selection. Only tracks I enjoy are Monte Carlo and Rev City, sometimes the snow one is fun.

Based, Half-Life 2, Mirror's Edge, and Lost Planet 1 also has cool city skyboxes. Half-Life 2's was based on New York, though I don't recall what Mirror's Edge was modeled after. Lost Planet 1, while not a nighttime city setting, featured a multiplayer only map with a high resolution city skybox that looked amazing when I played it back then, It was a Tokyo based skybox viewed from a building rooftop, almost identical to the photo you posted. Since these skyboxes typically draw inspiration from real cities, I always find myself wondering which actual city served as the basis whenever I encounter a city skybox in a game, and yes it's really cool.

>>
>>729447706
The tracks feel much too small, in fact the entire scale of the game feels annoying. If everything was sort of "stretched out" it would be dramatically better. You will be going 70 mph and it feels like you're out for a Sunday stroll.

I've actually had a lot of success setting the emulator to 110% speed. That makes the cars feel proper. I never have an issue with the cars feeling strangely slow and maps strangely small on Dirt Rally 2 for instance.

It's mainly the cars feeling slow as shit though. I should not be doing a city block in 10 seconds at 70 - 80mph, it should be 5 seconds tops
>>
.How's Automiblista 2 as a single player racist game on wheel?

The way Gran Turismo uses the term "special stage" is inaccurate, since these are all purely closed-street tarmac courses whenever the term comes up.
>>
>>729450046
i see. i think you're right, most of the tracks are only 2 or so car lengths wide and yeah, the sense of speed isn't great

I think GT2 is the best game for real racists
>>
>>729452668
I've never played GT before on PS2 so it may have a similar issue for me
>>
>>729451031
it has that floaty feeling that plagued project cars since it uses the same engine. all cars tend to powerslide through corners, even high downforce prototypes/gt3s. i'd say the physics are "fun" in that sense but its not realistic since it advertises itself as a sim
>>
>>729452668

the roulette system is garbage and the game doesn't have a patch to fix the analog triggers like GT3 and 4. otherwise i love it, yeah. i wish konami made a 2nd one and ironed it out.
>>
>>729453804
OK so I'm not crazy, it is impossible to do half a pedal push. I tried my best to set it up manually in the emulator settings. I think I actually made it permanently 90% or something. Is it physically impossible to give the game anything other than a binary input on emulator?

I have over 200 hours in the game and I only like 4 tracks lmao. It was the best quality sim racer I could run on PS2. I still want to try GT3 again though.

What's with the whole "a-spec" shit and GT3/4 II

Are they mods? Why are they called spec, it makes it seem like a different version of the official release which there are several of. Like, what's the point of the "online beta GT4 - offline mod edition". There are so many versions of these games
>>
>>729454767
throttle control on analog triggers is nearly impossible on both GT and Enthusia but at least GT had fan patches written for it. i think it boils down to how the triggers on a PS2 controller work.

GT4 Spec II is good. i recommend it. fixes nearly every annoying thing about it.
>>
>>729439046
Racist means something else, idiot. It's "racer".
>>
So I tried out both and somehow GT3 feels better.
