>check the steam new releases every couple week
>usually see one or two indie games that look very promising
>wishlist them and enable notifications for them
>8-11 months later
>game is either abandoned in early access or released with a MIXED score and devs refused to fix anything the negative reviews bring up

I don't get why people act like indie games are better than AAA or will save the industry given how this is the rule rather than exception at this point.
>>
yea right
>>
You need to trudge through the sludge, but the fact there's anything good in it at all is why it's better than AAAslop. Just don't ever fall for the Early Access scam.

For me, this year, it was Crown Gambit, The Drifter, The Warrior, Is This Seat Taken, Type-NOISE: Shonen Shojo, Wander Stars, Consume Me, Absolum and Keeper

you're bad at discovering games, anon. you should *never* be browsing Steam raw for new games. that's what social media is for. but it's not your fault, everyone on /v/ is shit at finding games, which is why they have such juvenile takes about indie games.

Are ANY of those story-heavy CRPG's without shitty reddit romance?
>>
the thing about indie games that AAA shills don't get is that literally everything that isn't a large corporate production counts as indie, when they say "ALL indies are bad" that's like saying everything that was ever produced except for large titles is bad, like everything, every single thing, from small 2-5 person companies, to tiny shitball studios, to one man productions, to dumb flash games, everything, every single thing ever
they also forget that the most common well known large titles are still gonna be the biggest among small productions, the biggest ma-and-pa burger shop is the 'mcdonalds' of ma-and-pa burger shops that aren't mcdonalds, the biggest most well known indie game is the AAA of indie games that aren't' AAA

The world Indie defo got itself a reputation as a genre, people think Indie is like Shooter or Platformer or something instead of meaning Independent
>>
>>729442221
Indie means "unfinished shit with quirky chungus corporate memphis globohomo graphics or fake 8/16bit pixel graphics"

Alright, man, you're looking for a very specific type of genre with a bunch of restrictions placed on top of it. You can't say indie games are shit just because they can't deliver on that one thing you want. Especially when AAA games can't either.

With that said, try:
>Solasta: Crown of the Magister
>King Arthur: Knight's Tale
>Colony Ship
>Space Wreck
>SKALD: Against the Black Priory

Nice walking sim and gimmickslop collage.

indie is not exempt from this
majority is indeed rpg maker hentai shit or 20 month alpha survival slop, excellent is not the norm
>>
>>729442572
sigh, you're right. indie games are too innovative. where are the indie games that are just formulaic and basically like "what if this snes game had a sequel that was widescreen?" unforunately, they're all gimmick laden walking simulations with no simple gameplay to be had.
>>
>>729443035
Maybe they'd actually be able to finish them if they weren't so "innovative".

Early access being so common among indies is the worst part of indie games.

Instead of getting a complete game you're paying to get screwed and trusting they won't screw you anymore than they already have.

If you look at the relationship objectively instead of being driven by what you want at that moment you're literally the naive cuck begging to be scammed out of what will either be the best version of the game or your money. That it worked out sometimes is like saying
>Yeah, I gave a complete stranger money for something they said they were going to do anyway once and they did it, what's so bad about that?

This relationship is fine once or twice because you can try your best to pick up on who's scamming but when EVERYONE is doing it it's very obvious what's going on, they're all just shifting the burden from themselves onto the consumer. Just like fucking triple As are.

More than 90% of these are low effort quirkshit and bullet hell/roguelike trash.
>>
>>729445569
I mean. I don't really see the problem in other people being cucks and paying to beta test a game for me.

Early Access is gonna look like a complete nothingburger when AIslop takes over indie vidya. That will be actual doomsday.

As far I'm concerned we are in a golden age for indie games.
Of course there's a lot of loss and scam, but that's up to you to ignore. Steam has a tag system that work rather well when you wishlisted/bought a few game in category you like, I discovered a lot of gems thanks to suggestion like that.
>>
>>729447516
All OP did is promote being a drone for big studio because he can't accept good game still need money
Or maybe it's just ridiculously bad at filtering out the scam from legit game
>>
>>729447749
We WERE in the golden age for indie games.
AIslop is taking over and ending that. When you look back in hindsight, you'll see the current day was already out of bounds.
>>
>>729447294
I will never pay for a game that was ever at any point in early access.

If you can't push your project to the finish line without Early Access selling then you shouldn't do EA in the first place.

Not disagreeing, just wondering why you're so open about it.
